Because these two factions are featured, does not necessarily mean they're deserving of respect for their methods and practices. Looking back through most of the cultures featured on this show, there are certainly more than just the IRA and Taliban with questionable backgrounds. Vikings are noted for their incredible brutality and violence, particularly while carrying out raids. Execution of infants for sport was not above them. I can see how the IRA and Taliban can cause uneasiness where they are a modern perversion of "warriors", but it doesn't make the show any less than thorough by having them part of it.
Zoo
Almost all of the warrior classes depicted in this show have been guilty of some pretty horrible things. Vikings wiped out entire villages, sparing no one, while ninjas killed whoever they were paid to kill. The Spartans took the people they conquered as slaves, while the gladiators killed for show. The less said about pirates the better. The show isn't designed to exhalt these people or to be their cheering section; only to guage the effectiveness of their tactics and weapons of choice. The reality is that some of these guys are around today and the things they do are horrible.
Please do confuse measuring with praise. I'm not sure how this show is seen to you but be mindful that it isnt about the most noblest because if that was the case then the monks win hands down lol. But maybe i think you were along the lines of the face that they started using groups and not just individual warriors. I think it was necessary to do things that way for them because of technology and because everyone wants to see guns and explosives lol. Honestly i think that they allow people to see just how brutal and vicious the minds of today are against the bronze of the past. trust me if this was a spartan vs. speznaz and the spez could not use any guns im pretty sure the spartan might win not because russians are weak but because those guys lived in a different kind of world. Now what would happen if spartans lived in our time and had our technology but with the same practices what would happen then lol hmmm the mind can be a scary place ha ha.
This episode was not made to glorifi terrorist groups, if anything they tried to raise awareness of the horrors these groups cause.
The show is called "The Deadliest Warrior" not "The Biggest Teddy Bear"
The show introduced the I.R.A. as 'Freedom Fighters' , well that sounds very much like making a judgement to me. In the U.S.A. they may be seen as ' Freedom Fighters', but here in the U.K. they are murderers and terrorists. The show presented the I.R.A. as ' urban warriors ', which is of course how they would like to see themselves. Was the word terrorist ever mentioned?
To say that the Vikings were bad people too is of course correct, I am sure the victims of pirates also had a rather different viewpoint to them at the time. But thats the point..... the victims of the Vikings, Pirates etc etc are not going to be watching the show !!! However, despite the show portraying the I.R.A. as warriors, most of the victims of these so called 'soldiers' were innocent people, women and children. I myself was injured by the famous ' nail bomb', as glorified on the show, while walking on the ' front line' ... oh sorry, I mean a UK high street full of shoppers on a Saturday afternoon !!!!! please tell me to my face that the I.R.A. are urban warriors or freedom fighters.... I can show you the scars from these 'warriors' and how they bravely murdered men, women and children who were going about their normal daily lives. We were not in uniform, we were not carrying rifles!!!!
The point is the show took sides, you cannot call them 'Freedom Fighters' and remain impartial, you cannot stand by and let some idiot harp on about their effective nail bomb and how great it is if you know that most of the people it killed were innocent women and children !!!!!
Deadliest Warrior is a great show, but they dropped the ball on this one. Would the U.S.A. approve of a British show calling the 9-11 bombers 'freedom fighters' ... somehow I doubt it !!

I will take your word for it, because of course it was never shown in the UK..... but a trailer is just a trailer. Very clearly they were refered to as...and I quote... ' Freedom Fighters ' during the actual show and that is stating an opinion. Of course anyone is allowed an opinion, and the show definately expressed one !!!! They chose a side, they could have intorduced them as murdering terrorists.... thats a fact !! But they didn't I personally bear the scars from these 'soldiers' and saw sights no one should see...bodies riddled with hundreds of nails !!!!!!! and the lady that 'shiedled' me didnt look like a combatant !!!!! So to listen to the little Irish/American pratt rant on about their great nail bomb !!!!! it was too much to take and I think the show overstepped a line ...the victims and victims familes of both the I.R.A. and the Taliban can see this !!... or at least had to make a concious decision not to watch it.... and for what? a TV show!!!!. Its not that important, pick two other subjects.

That makes a bit more sense if you're personally invested...in the end here they used Freedom fighter and terrorist interchangeably here because in actual practice they're exactly the same thing. There is no terrorist group who sees what they're doing as anything less than fighting for freedom or fighting for god himself, that's what makes them so damn dangerous. I know ex-WW2 soldiers who would also argue calling the SS anything but "vicious butchers" but the fact of the matter is that they'd BOTH be right because they're referring to exactly the same people. They used BOTH the terms Freedom Fighters (which is precisely how the IRA saw themselves, whether correct or not). The nail bomb was most definitely vicious, cruel, and yet undeniably and powerfully effective.
They got the same reaction when they did Spetsnaz vs. Green Beret, people got all up in arms over the whole thing because they happened to dislike one of the combatants. Personally, the Taliban/IRA episode was one of my favorites of the show so far.
The show isn't abot ideology, it's about weapon-power and effectiveness. They don't take sides in the ideologies, as stated in the vietcong vs Waffen SS nazi episode.
I personally think gangsters and terrorists shouldn't be in the show, like the somalian pirates, but military groups should. They could test different types of todays commandos and elites, like they did on Spetsnaz vs Green Beret. Or samurai vs Ninja would be fun if they tested, just to see who is actually deadlier.

That would actually defeat the premise of the show. The core idea is to take two warriors/groups who never met due to differing eras amd/or geography and pit them against one another. The Samurai and Ninjas fought all the time in feudal Japan. |

| They forgeot to mention that the IRA nail bomb was used against women and children and the Taliban executed women for flying kites. |
