  • Despite the skill and dexterity of the Ninja, the Spartan comes out victorious thanks to the presence of a shield. Perhaps if the Samurai had considered using one as well, the Ninja would not have been considered the terror that it was.moreless

Honestly, I was surprised by this episode, considering how the first two episodes seemed to go. More specifically, the series seemed to be developing the trend that the more skilled and dexterous warriors (i.e. the Apache in the first episode and the Samurai in the second episode) would typically defeat the heavier, stronger warriors (i.e. the Gladiator in episode one and the Viking in episode two).

Thankfully, I was mistaken in this observation. Though it clearly upset a great many people, especially those who side with Ninjas in the Ninja vs. Pirate debate, I was ultimately pleased with the result, especially since the reason for the Spartans victory was not his armor or tolerance for pain or his weapons, but the fact that his shield was sturdy and was usable for offense as well. All in all, a good episode, despite how upset ninja supporters are at the result. Hopefully the next episode, Pirate vs. Knight, will be equally as entertaining.moreless
  • Not surprised.

I was an ancient history major and was not surprised at all that the Spartans came out on top. Granted, we had to imagine a ninja not running away and hiding to regain the upper hand. This show is more like a "death-match" in a ring - no running, no hiding, just combat. In that scenario, I cannot imagine a Spartan warrior losing to a ninja without the ninja getting some very lucky blows. We're talking about soldiers that were trained from birth - only the strongest, most deadliest would even survive to adulthood...imagine Navy SEAL training beginning at birth.moreless
