Break out the alcohol and scream a few profanities in honor of Al Swearengen because the Deadwood movie is totally happening. HBO programming president Michael Lombardo confirmed to TV Line on Thursday that he's given Deadwood creator David Milch the green light for a film to wrap up the critically acclaimed series, which was brutally canceled after just three seasons in 2006.
“David has our commitment that we are going to do it,” Lombardo told the website. “He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be—and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen."
Rumors of a Deadwood film have been swirling since the series' cancellation nearly a decade ago, but in August 2015 HBO confirmed that the network was in "preliminary discussions" after actor Garret Dillahunt, who appeared as two different characters on the series, tweeted about what he referred to as "credible rumors." Of course, having the green light from HBO and finding time to write the film and reunite the cast for filming are two different things. Milch is currently working on another project, but according to Lombardo, “the understanding is that when he is done with that he will turn his attention to [writing the] script for the Deadwood film."
Hey, we've waited this long, we can stand to wait a little longer, right?
Are you excited? Do you think it's a bunch of bullhonky or is this finally the real deal?
Since so many of them have regular series commitments now, that's going to be one hell of a pisser to fit them in. Maybe if they film it in typical show break periods they could smuggle them in and out.
However, a quick look on IMDB makes it look unrealistic. Dang'ed successful people!
so ...better late than never, right?! can we get timothy omundson a second role? maybe have him squint one eye and rub dirt on his face to make him unrecognizable.
