A Deadwood Community
HBO (ended 2006)

DeadwoodVeronica Mars, and Arrested Development don't have much in common, except that they were all cut down prematurely by their respective networks after three seasons. But fans kickstarted a generally well-received Veronica Mars film, and Netflix revived Arrested Development for Season 4 (and a fifth is supposedly still on the way). Now the possibility of revisiting the acclaimed HBO western appears to be something else Deadwood could have in common with both series.

On Wednesday, Garret Dillahunt, who appeared as two different characters on the series, tweeted about what he referred to as "credible rumors" regarding a film. Dillahunt followed it up with another tweet that poked fun at the fact there was an Entourage movie—something that probably only TV.com's Cory Barker really wanted to see (no offense, Cory)—but had yet to make any progress on giving Deadwood fans the closure they wanted and deserved.

Of course, rumors of a Deadwood film are nothing new and there are a lot of obstacles that would need to be overcome in order to make it happen, like the fact the series' intricate sets were dismantled shortly after it was canceled nearly a decade ago. Because of these issues, I wasn't too quick to get my hopes up just because an actor tweeted something to the universe. But according to the Hollywood Reporter, Dillahunt might not be pulling the cruelest prank in the history of cruel pranks. "In reference to Garret Dillahunt's tweet regarding the rumored Deadwood movie, there have only been very preliminary discussions," HBO said in a statement.

It's not much, but it's certainly more than what we had when we woke up this morning. And when you take into consideration the fact that revivals and reboots are happening all the time—Fox is bringing back both The X-Files and Prison Break and NBC has revived Coach even though no one asked for it—it's not too crazy to think that it could actually happen. Plus, Timothy Olyphant, who played leading man Seth Bullock, might be more open now that Justified has hung up its holster. So maybe a little whiskey to celebrate might not be totally out of place.

AS long as Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane return I will be happy. McShane has a gig lined up already - but it is with HBO!

If Timothy Olyphant joins the cast make that a double!!

Bourbon or Scotch?

I'll go with the good stuff. A single malt. (barley and not rye)
There are likely as many opinions on this subject as there are hangover stories.... so you can drink whatever you like. American or otherwise.

Cheers!

Considering Garret was one of the worst double mistakes in it, he'd be the least reliable source - aside from the pedophile they stood by/attempted to bury.
I'd love the chance for more but a movie would have to have some real outbreak story and deadwood was more about happenstance in the milieu, if you will.

Shame on HBO for waiting so long to release a Deadwood movie.

Why do these knuckleheads let a decade or more pass before they realize what a good thing they had going? Now I am going to have to rewatch all episodes of Deadwood again if they make a movie. Yes!

I didn't like Deadwood, I watched all three seasons because I had no internet at the time and the library had them, so it was just to kill time, and I still felt like I almost would have rather been doing nothing. It's hard to pin down why I didn't like it, maybe it was just that I expected it to be more eventful, it being based on real people I think limited it alot. Trying to tell a real person's life story in a tv series is probably not a good idea, because even the most interesting people do nothing of note most days. It was tedious, I guess that's it, I felt nothing was happening, there were multiple episodes devoted to a guy having kidney stones. To tell a life story you've got to have time jumps, that's the only way for it to stay engaging, Masters of Sex employs them pretty well. Also Timothy Olyphant who has become a great actor, was not at the top of his game in that show, or the director/writer was giving him shit to work with because there was some scenes with Seth that were hard to watch. And finally, you can only use words like Cocksucker so many times before you just get desensitized, for me it happened about five minutes into the first episode.

I don't want a film, I want another season. Films are never the same.

Now that's unexpected but welcome news! Make it happen, HBO!
Also, have Dillahunt play a third character.

This needs to happen. Dillahunt is a fantastic actor. Now since Olyphant is free after Justified ended, this is good timing. McShane is currently on Ray Donovan season 3 and I believe he'll be in next season's Game of Thrones, but in supporting roles, so he could make time for another whirl as Al!!

I would imagine HBO would wait to see how Westworld does before making an official announcement. If it's well-received, then they know there might be an interest for a Deadwood movie. You know, besides from original fans of the show

"Deadwood, Veronica Mars, and Arrested Development don't have much in common..."
...but Deadwood and Veronica Mars do: Before moving on to fame and fortune as Veronica Mars, Kristen Bell played a character named Flora Anderson for several episodes during Season 1 of Deadwood. But no, I don't think she'll be returning to the role...

This is true, but that would have been a needless tangent and I wanted to get to the good stuff! Good memory though!

Not unless it's a Walking Dead crossover or something.

Not only that, but Timothy Olyphant was in Justified with Nick Searcy, who was in The Runaway Jury with John Cusack, who was in Con Air and Being John Malkovich with John Malkovich, who was in Ripley's Game with Dougray Scott, who was in Mission Impossible 2 with Tom Cruise, who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon, who was in The Following with Shawn Ashmore, whose brother Aaron was in an episode of Veronica Mars. But that's obvious.

Or, to simplify that a bit:

Timothy Olyphant was in Justfied with Natalie Zea, who was in The Following (and then insert the rest of that post here)

Or Paula Malcolmson was in The Hunger Games with Jennifer Lawrence, who was in X-Men: First Class...

Good use of six degrees there, though you probably could have found a quicker connection if you hadn't taken it back to Kevin Bacon first. Still, I guess that's the rule.

Please make this happen! Such a great show. I've actually recently started re-watching it recently, and so it would be great timing for me if it was announced soon.

Though, of course I won't get my hopes up too high for this, until there's an official announcement. Even if they are in talks to make a movie, those types of talks don't always work out for the best. So it's better to hope for the best and expect the worst IMo.
