  • It doesn't really seem like Death Note anymore.

    "Good"
This episode is definitely slower than the previous episodes. There were no huge plot twists, but the introduction of two characters that are pretty shady might make things interesting.

There is no way you could imagine the Light that we're seeing now as Kira. They are like two polar opposites. And with his megalomaniacal ways still suppressed, Death Note is becoming less and less enjoyable. However, the fight between Light and L and Aizawa's resolve makes this episode shine.

With the Yotsuba arc, Light's loss of the Death Note, no Shinigamis on screen and focus on secondary characters, the anime is living the first "down" phase after a ton of "ups".
  • Giving those minor characters some love.

The tensions running through this episode can't nearly be called the highest the series has seen or will see, but they're definitely some of the deeper-running emotions. Seeing L become so discouraged by the conclusions he reached that he had to be physically snapped out of his on-set depression was different, but still in-character. The most moving part of the episode, by far, was Aizawa crying in front of his daughter at the end of the episode. It shows just how trying the Kira case is on those involved, making them seem that much stronger that they continue as the series progresses.

I give this episode a 9/10 on a Death Note scale.
  • The members on the task force have to choose between qutting their jobs to go on trying to pursue Kira, or to keep their positions on the police force.

This episode was pretty boring. Not much happened, although it did get interesting seeing Light and L fighting in the beginning. I did feel really bad for the member who had to leave the task force..especially when he said that his wife and him were fighting.

Also, the group has found a Kira connection with a big business company called Yatsuba. This is due to members of the business dying recently due to heart attacks.

L takes a different approach bringing criminals onto the team to help them find Kira. Towards the end, you notice that L has some sort of affection for the people on the force since he secretly promised to be sure to take care of all their expenses in the event that they quit their jobs.
  • Adjustments…

This has got to be the slowest episode so far… nothing much happened, I certainly understand why and I still enjoyed it (Light and L hashing it out mano-e-mano was great!) but it was definitely a break from the hard-attack pace in previous episodes…

The task force has now made their move to their new headquarters, in a giant building with tight security, living quarters for its members, etc…

New associates are inducted and one old one is removed from the picture…

Light has found some clues linking Kira to Yatsuba, a business empire with stock on the rise due to the convenient deaths of its opposition’s key leaders. This and other things completely alter the conclusion L had come to about Kira, and we see him take on a different attitude to the whole case in this episode…

All in all, a great stepping stone to future episodes…
