  • The epic ending RULES

    10
    "Perfect"
Out of every show I have ever seen, which is quite a few, this episode has probably the best ending of them all. When I watched the first episode of Death Note, in all honesty I thought it pretty much sucked. I wasn't going to watch on until a few people forced me into watching the 2nd episode. I thought the first half of the ep was pretty interesting, but it wasn't until I saw the ending with L's trick on that broadcast that I thought 'omg, this is amazing' sort of thing. The point where the cat and mouse game started between L and Light reeled me in straight away, and since that it's been my favourite show (even better than naruto, and thats coming from a complete narutard). My advice to you is, if you've only seen the first ep and are wondering whether there's any point to you carrying on, you HAVE to get to the ending of episode 2. If you don't, you don't know what you're missing.
  • L outwits Light in a little game of cat and mouse.

This was an excellent second episode. The last five minutes of the episode was just too fun to watch. I was satisfied with how that scene was executed. And whoever this L character is, I like his style. This episode showed that L is very analytical and notices even the smallest detail such as the first heart attack victim. But the best part of his plan was when he decided to limit the broadcast to the Kantou region of Japan. I also loved how he used a criminal called Lind L. Tailor to lure Light to kill him.

L managed to force Light into committing his biggest mistakes yet: writing Lind L. Tailor's name in the Death Note. Light made a deadly mistake in killing him. For me, that was a major disappointment in Light's character. Just a while ago he was calculating and taking measures to ensure his safety, and then he makes a move without any consideration at all. But if that didn't happen, I guess it wouldn't have set up what will inevitably be the focus of this series: the conflict between Light and L. It makes me wonder how Light must feel at that point, especially when L asked him to kill him again and Light can't do it because he doesn't know L's name or face. That was an amazing display of deductive logic from L. This series just stepped it up a notch.
  • This episode truly starts the series. Its exactly how to start a storyline.

In this episode, L, the worl's greatest detective, confronts the mass murderer Kira and proves his existence. This is what i think of when i think of how to start a storyline. With this one episode this whole series as a clever plot of good vs. evil. With its small details and huge twists. Be prepared to forever love this show. This could very well be considered the first episode of the storyline, but the real first one is still important. L vesrus Light. Kira vs. good. One things for sure if you like to think then this is the show for you.
  • I was deeply impressed and intrigued by the introduction of L.

    "Superb"
The main reason I adore this episode is how beautifully executed the introduction of L was. I was deeply impressed with the logic he kept churning out as he revealed determining factors to his hypothesis about Light's location and method of murder. Restricting the locals of his broadcast took the cake. Definitely came across as a force to be reckoned with and makes you look forward to watching how this game of cat and mouse is going to play out throughout the series.

Light was kind of manic (more than usual) though. Yelling at the TV like that... Put me off a bit since I got used to his calm demeanor so far. But it just makes me root for L more too.

This episode really draws you into the series. Usually the first episodes of something take time to set things up and aquaint viewers with the main characters, but this series just jumps right into the action in just the second episode.
  • Ah, now the plot thickens

Light discovers ways to use the Death Note to his advantage, and is serious about becoming God of the new world. People have given him the name Kira from the word killer. However, his killings were discovered by the police, and they call in L, who is interested in this case. L manages to trick Light into revealing that he is in Japan, and now it's a battle to see who can discover the other's identity first and kill them. This episode was a good one, it lets you get a feeling of what the conflict is going to be in the serious, and what might happen. A great setup for episode 2. And there were a lot of mental thrill mysteries in there too.
  • L sets a trap for Light Yagami. Light wants to kill L.

    8.3
    "Great"
This is a cleverly plotted episode. L makes a very interesting yet clever trap. L now knows where Kira, Light, generally lives. He had also figured out that Light somehow can't kill him yet. Light can kill a person knowing their face and their name. L, the name itself, is just a disguise for his real name and L also hasn't presented himself publicly. In this episode, the rivalry with L and Light starts as Light is humiliated that he couldn't kill L. Overall, this episode was very good and in my opinion, L's trap was what really made it an interesting episode.
  • L comes into the picture

Wow, this is fun! It's Light vs. L, The Kira vs. The World's Greatest Detective! Light thinks all is going well, until Ryuk tells him while he is helping his little sister with her homework that if anyone else touches the Death Note, they will be able to see Shinigami too. So now Light has to come up with a good hiding place. Meanwhile, the police begin to discover the many deaths in the area and decide to bring in L, the world's best detective. L does a broadcast, and reveals a name, to see if that person would die. And he does. So now L knows about where The Kira is, and he is determined to find him. LOL, Light's gonna get it!
  • We see how Light manages to balance his school life with his mission to eradicate criminals. This episode also introduces us to L, a pivotal character who will turn Kira's world up side down.

Whoever wrote the manga is brilliant.

Light's contraption to protect the Death Note from prying eyes was ingenious and gave us an isight into how dedicated he was towards his plan, risking the health of himself and his family to protect it.

We are introduced to the Chief and Matsuda who will play a significant part in the kira investigation. It is by means of the newly recruited Matsuda that we gain an insight into L's story.

The reason I had to give this episode a 10 was because it contained the best scene I have ever seen in an anime. Light did not see what was coming to him. L's first hit was right on target, from one broadcast he narrowed his search from the entire world to an are of Japan. Who knows what he will do next.

Light's statement that he accepts this challenge lets us know that the chase will not be over soon. As smart as L is, Light is no less and he will not be intimidated.
  • That was a genius piece of work that really stunned me.

I got the idea taht this show would give the unpredictable. You'd have to guess what happens next, and you find out it's not what you thought you'd happen.

Well, this show is making me add it to my favorites. I knew at first it deserved a place in such a list of shows.

    This show is cool.

So it starts with Light in school and translating something. The school's over, and Light and Ryuk head back home. Meanwhile, the police have chit-chat with L the awesome. Then, Light makes this insulator thingy. That was genius. And then the broadcast yada yada.

L is cool. I hadn't realized that he would be that smart. But I'm sad taht i already saw L in the intro, he looks like he came from a mental hospital....

    Csool epsiode!!!

Man this is program is amazing. It is different, clever, animation is perfect and has a great plot. The first episode was the episode that made me curious about what this program was going to be about and now after the second one we know fine well what situations Kira is going to come across. I am a big fan of brains over brawl and with Kira being very intelligent i think the twists in this program are going to keep getting better and better. In this episode we officially 'hear' about L another clever detective who believes what Kira is doing is evil. The program has officially started.

    Enjoy
  • Light haters unite! And bask in the awesomeness that is L.

Wow, just Wow. After thirty-some episodes, this one is still my favorite.

I just love how much of an idiot Light really is. Of course I had my suspicions when "L" appeared in person for the very first time. And that's me. Why wasn't Light the least bit wary? Hmmmm? Because he is a megalomaniacal idiot.

I think Light just snapped when Tailor called him 'evil.' It struck a chord somewhere and he freaked out, playing right into our beloved L's hands.

I don't want to comment on the dub much, but I loved L's voice through the scrambler thing. I could actually hear the emotions through it, which I didn't in the sub. I think L's tone was more mocking when he dared Light to kill him. That was absent in the Japanese version as well.

As for L's real voice, it sounds okay. It has potential at the very least.

I just love this episode; it somehow leaves more of an effect on the viewer than the first episode did. It shows the two opposing views of what justice really is, and it's fantastic.
  • Intense episode.

    "Superb"
This episode premieres the beginning effects of Light's campaign with the Death Note. The police are becoming fully aware of the comparable, and numerous deaths of felons everywhere, and an enigmatic and top detective is introduced, L.

Light, or, his new moniker Kira, (a word somehow related to the word "killer"), is given to him by his new popularity all over the globe, by people suspecting or hoping that it is a sublime being who is causing the deaths of all the criminals everywhere.

Ryuk is also developing as a very interesting character (for a death god that is).

This episode has great build up, and the confrontation between Light and L is poignantly dramatic. All in all, another great episode to a very promising anime.
  • Omg! Light got played!

I loved it! It starts out with Light continuing his life, and he is in school. After school is over, a kid asks Light if he wants to hang out, but Light says he is busy. Ryuk says that Light doesn't have anything to do, so he is confused, but Light says he has plans to do with the Death Note. An important meeting is called about the sudden deaths of numerous people. They intend to hire L, a very good detective-type person to look into the case of the people dying out of no where. L has never been seen, and only 1 person has contact with him, and his face is unknown as well. L says he will help, but he requires certain things to perform his plan. They agree, and they plan will soon be carried out to try and discover who is killing this criminals. Light, however, comes up with a plan to hide the Death Note after Ryuk tells him if someone finds the Death Note and touches it, they will then see Ryuk. Light comes up with this brilliant plan to hide the notebook in his drawer, so it's well hidden. A news conference comes on and Lind L. Tailor, who says he is L, talks about the sudden deaths. He says that the person behind this is doing bad things that are injustice. Light gets angry, and writes his name in the Death Note, killing him. The man dies, and Light thinks he's won, but little does he know it was all a trap. The real L comes on the screen, well, only his voice and the symbol for L. He says that it was all a set up, and that it was only broadcast to a certain region of Japan. He finds it interesting that the person, Kira is Light's alter ego's nickname, can kill without being present in the room. Light gets mad, and it quite shocked that L outsmarted him this one time. Ryuk finds it funny. The fight is on - L against Light. The first to find out who the other person is will die. Awesome episode!! They nicknamed the killer "Kira" which means killer in English. I loved the episode!
  • We have a villian, but now let's add a hero...

It has been a week or a few since Light has taken control of the Death Note and started to purfiy the world in his view. Now the police around the world are starting to notice this development and call for help from the world's greatest detective, L. This leads to the first showdown between Light, also known as Kira, and L. From this point on, it has become a battle of wits. Only one can win.

The voices were good, but kind of soft so it was hard to hear. The animation was good and at least there were a few more scenes with light in them so I could see better.

Overall, it is going to be hard to top this episode in the future. Let's see them try to do it! The only problem was how the voices were a bit too light to hear, but that's nit-picking. Overall, you must see this episode!
  • The Showdown begins Light vs L, Good Vs Evil, Darkness vs Light, who will win?

This is the introduction that will forshadow Lights future, as we know, we get to meet what will be the second most important character in the plot. L is brought upon as a secret and perfect solver to any situation and Light seems at first confused on whats going on; but later goes on to accept the challenge that L brings to the table. What I most like about this we have two genuises that will end up going to the extreme to figure each other out. Its Light Vs L, whoever steps forwerd first wins, but I think there is more to plot then meets the eye!
  • A new pivotal character is introduced!

Light hides the note book in a very genius way, in a way that if anyone tries to remove it from the desk, it will burn and all the evidence shall be gone. The exiting part is when in the ICPO meeting. The policemen don't know how to catch Kira and don't have any lead on him, they are confused by how the murders are done. One of them says that this is a job for L. Nobody knows L's true identity or his real name. He is a mysterious detective who helped solve many difficult cases. The weird thing is that no one actually saw L. He contacts them by the computer. L says that he wants to prove the existence of Kira by a direct confrontation with the culprit. L proves that and also proves that Kira indeed can kill people without touching them. Kira is angry by this and marks L as his enemy and both of them are determined to catch the other.
  • Light gets more than a little attention as "Kira," which includes that of the world's greatest detective.

    9.8
    "Superb"
Light shows more of his genius by going to extra lengths to hide the Death Note; he places it in such a way that it will actually burn if anyone carelessly removes it.

This episode doesn't even get good until the ICPO meeting. All the policemen are baffled about the Kira case, and one of them says that this is a job for "L." L, the only name by which he is known to the ICPO, is the mysterious detective who no one has seen but has helped solve numerous difficult cases. L is contacted thanks to his confidant Watari, and states that he would like to prove Kira's existence by a direct confrontation with the culprit.

The confrontation takes the form of a TV broadcast in which L tricks Light into revealing the fact that he can kill people without touching them, as well as his location. The climactic ending, in which we see both men stating that they believe their actions are the right ones, lets us know a bit more about them and really sets the stage for the rest of the series.
  • Introduction to L

    "Perfect"
Light's death note murders are getting noticed by the police around the world. The interpol have a meeting deciding what to do.Watari makes his first appearance in this episode. He is described as "the only person capable of contacting L(the world's greatest detective who prefers to keep his real name and identity secret)."L says that he will reveal his findings in a global broadcast.Light is telling Ryuk that people are already declaring support for Kira in the net. Then, all of a sudden,a person claiming to be L appears on T.V and tells Kira(as lightis now called by the japanese word meaning "killer") that he is "evil".This infuriates Light and he kills the person on T.V without hesitation. Then, the "L" symbol appears on screen and L asks Light to kill him.He can't do so because he needs a bame and a face to kill and,in this context,he has neither. Then L reveals that the supposed global broadcast was being broadcast only in the Kanto region of Japan. He also reveals that Light(kira) needs a name and face to kill and that the person he killed was a criminal sentenced to death and information on him was not to be found even in the internet.Thuis,in one move,Light proves that Kira exists, lives in japan, and can kill from afar. This episode introduces L,who will soon become Light's first major challenge.I loved the sheer brilliance with which L executed his plan to prove Kira's existence.
  • This episode introduces the second main character, L, whom I personally consider to be the hero of the entire series, no matter what may occur in later episodes.

    9.5
    "Superb"
Every villain needs his protagonist, and Light has met his. Death Note holds nothing back on the intelligence of its characters, and L is no exception. Not much is known about L after this episode is complete, but this is for good reason--if it was easy to gather information, this arc wouldn't run for a glorious twenty-five episodes.

L is portrayed as a mastermind for hire to the big-shots of the world, and he damn well lives up to the title. He is hired to take care of Japan's "Kira," as Light has been nicknamed. ("Kira" comes from the Japanese pronunciation of "killer," for those who were wondering. Their R's can be pronounced as L's, hence "Raito" when they say Light.) Light, fresh into his position of world-cleaner, is threatened by L's justice, and an epic battle is sure to ensue.

A likable episode with a new character closer to cuddly, I give this episode a 9.5 out of 10.
