  • If Light joins the investigation team, he'd have to walk on egg shells, with L analyzing him every second.

This was another good episode, but not as good as the previous one. Now that L has firmly locked on to Light, their mental battles are getting more intense. The tennis match was done very well, showing what L and Light were thinking at that very moment, but my head got all worked up and scrambled trying to decipher their thoughts.

The most interesting scene was with the "four pictures" in the café. The fourth picture coming out from nowhere surely gave Light a sweat attack. He really has to act as neutral as possible now, since his suspicion rate is increasing little by little.
  • The first episode in the series of many to come with L challenging Light to games that no one else can see.

This is the first episode in the series of many to come with L challenging Light to games that no one else can see. Games that make you say, "For the love of God! How in the world did you think of doing that?!?" Jaw droppers. Get used to them. In this episode, the twisted game is a simple game of tennis. To the eye of the normal person, that is. But to L and Light, it's so much more. L challenges Light to a tennis match, and he gladly accepts, knowing it will be a game of wits. They begin, and discover that they are evenly matched. Later into the match, people flock to watch them, considering how good they both are. And the whole entire time, Light and L are enticipating each other's moves, knowing who the winner will be before the match even begun. Although, I'm sorry to say I can't recall myself who wins. I wanna say Light, but I don't remember. I only saw this episode once.
  • whilst this may not exactly be the best episode in the season, what it achieves without much of a premise is hugely impressive.

As i previously stated on its own its just an average episode, but because of its intuitive use of a tennis game , which should be in fact horrible to watch, it really workd. That is impressive in of itself. This issue greatly improves the whole episode mainly because the deep thinking games take something which should be visually horrible (but actually isnt anyway) and makes it an astounding piece of entertainment. Utterly enthralling throughout, we got really into both characters mind games, my only flaw in the episode was lack of ryuk, as the comic relief to the show it was a let down to see so little of him. The twist at the end of the episode was a nice touch which certainly made me make attention
  • Light and L have a tennis match, questions are asked, and Light's father has a heart attack.

The episode starts with Light and L at a tennis court because L asked Light to a friendly game of tennis but really L is tring to profile Light to see if he's really Kira. Light wins the match and afterwards L tells Light he is a suspect in the Kira case. Then Light descides they should talk in privot at a coffe shop. L descides to test Light by makeing him descifer 3 notes he wrote earlier to find a hidden message. But then he tries a trick by pulling a fourth note which is a fake to see his reaction. Then asking about how would he find Kira by asking questions which is to make him say something only Kira knows. L says he's 3% to be Kira but he wants him to sign up for the task force that way if he's Kira they will find out it's him easyier and if he isn't Kira, he still helps out the investigation. Then they both get a call saying Light's father had a heart attack! It turns out it was from stress, instead of kira which would make no scense with Light being Kira. Light does ask if this guy is really L and his father tells him it is L, and if Light wants to join the task force he must wait till he has finnished collage. Light's father brings up that being able to kill the way kira does is like a curse. Then both Light and L are heading home but before that Light asks L if there is some way to show that he really isn't kira, which L finds a little suspicous but Light counter acts with "how would you fell if you where suspected to be kira?" L says it's the worst feeling, Last Light says he never has felt curse with the curse and he still doesn't.
  • This episode isn't so special.

I'll have to agree with what IGN's score about this episode. It really isn't extactly the most exciting episode in the series when I look at the last episode that came before it.

Light and L take each other on in a tennis match and an intellence match as well. The lacking thing about this is that the tennis match is lacking good excitment or anything like that. The intellence match is interesting and proves Light and L can think on the same scale.

But what this episode did was that it set a great opening the for the next episode to come with a special at the end of it. The voice acting and animation was good as usual, but nothing else I haven't said before.
  • Light and L try to learn about one another in a tennis match. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

When I first saw this episode I was looking foward to seeing Kira and Ryuga play tennis to learn more about each other. Needless to say, I was impressed. I liked the part where they hit the ball and their sweat was glisttining in the sun. It was so dramatic, it was funny. I couldn't help but laugh. Anyway, from a philisophical point of view, I also liked it. "If you are given the power to kill someone, then you are just curse." HA! Don't make me laugh. Just like Light, I don't see it as being cursed. Killing off the worlds worst criminals is probably a good thing. But there have been many moments where he stepped out of his borders and killed innocent people. That really ticked me off. Ray and Naomi deserved to live in peace. Anyway, this episode was really well thought out. I like it. Hopefully Kira will continue to kill criminals and not kill innocent lives.
  • What's a better way to settle differences than on the courts?

This episode was rather slow overall but picked up drastically at the end. The tennis match between Light and L, though extremely built up and obviously dramatic (as is expected with the series, just take the epic chip eating for example), was disappointing. It merely displayed their cognitive strengths once again.

Light and L both receiving notice of Soichiro's heart attack marked the increase of pace in the episode. This was complimented with the introduction of Sakura TV's Demegawa and the Kira tapes. The next episodes are always built up well, which is what keeps the fans coming back for more. The episodes themselves, unless one of the pivotal ones of the arcs, appear almost lack-luster in comparison.

This one still earns an 8.5/10 on a Death Note Scale, though.
  • Who knew tennis could be so informative?

Good episode! L and Light face-off in a friendly match of tennis. While playing, both think about basically the same thing..their intentions behind the tennis match. L tells Light that he suspects that Light is Kira. L and Light talk and while talking, L raises Light's percentage of being Kira due to the fact that Light comes up with things very quickly. They both get a phone call. Light's dad had a heart attack! Obviously it wasn't Kira's doing since Light wouldn't kill his own father (I hope), but it was caused by stress. Light wants to join the Task Force, but his father does not want him to. Kira sends a bunch of tapes to a news station and wants them to broadcast a tape that supposedly reveals Kira's identity.
  • Light and L play tennis to try and find out more about each other.

L actually suggests that he and Light play tennis; he believes that Light, if he were Kira, would hate to lose, but Light realizes this as well and manages to win the match. Afterwards, they go somewhere for tea and L tests Light's deduction skills. Even though he suspects Light is Kira, he would still like his help in the investigation. It was interesting to watch Light just talk and talk to prove he's not Kira, and while he's doing this L's suspicions rise ever so slightly: from 1% to 3% to 7%. I got the feeling that even though those are really small percentages, it was still a big deal.

It was also interesting to find out that L likes to think in terms of percentages; not only does he suspect Light in "percents," but the odd manner in which he sits is supposedly something he "has to do" or else his deduction ability will decrease by 40%.

Suddenly Light's dad has a heart attack, so they both go see him in the hospital. Luckily he only had a heart attack because he's been stressing himself out; he confirms for Light that "Ryuzaki" is L.

L finally asks Light to join the investigation, and at the end we see the staff of a TV studio receive tapes that are supposedly from Kira himself. That should be quite interesting.
  • Keep your enemies closer...

This episode begins with L challenging Light to a tennis match, to see if he can sift through and discover any inkling of a character trait that might be synonymous to the kind of nature, he has reasoned, that Kira possesses.

Anyone can quickly realize that the rest of the episode continues in this manner, L testing Light, but openly admitting that this is what he’s doing… The discourse was quite fascinating for me; I enjoyed watching Light being tested and then reacting brilliantly, producing minor to reduced suspicion on L’s part. It is apparent that the two are very similar, and it’s beyond engaging just watching the silent war being waged intellectually, between the two of them…
  • Who would have thought a game of tennis could tell so much about a person?

This episode is about L trying to judge whether Light is Kira or not....

The episode begins with L challenging Light to a game of tennis. Since L knows Light hates to lose, he is judging him whether or not he's Kira. Light ultimately wins, and takes L to get refreshments. L evaluates Light some more, but they both get calls saying Light's father had a heart attack. Light promises in a false act he will catch Kira. L says he would like Light's help and he doesnt suspect him as much to be Kira as before.....

This was a great episode, which has come to be expected from Death note, and it continues to deliver, and an interesting plot involving perhaps a fake Kira is begining to develope. As hinted at the end of the episode. Overall, it was a little slow, but still a great episode.......
