  • Light is really in a pinch now - he can't do anything.

Oh, wow! This episode was really dramatic! It was a very bold move that L pulled off. I never thought that he would be crazy enough to introduce himself as L to Light. It was absolute genius; so obvious and ballsy that it doesn't even enter most people's heads. And although Light has not been revealed as Kira yet, L shook him with fear and forced him to change his plans.

The way they were both portrayed at the ceremony was just hilarious. It might be weird, but I think the girl who picked L as her idol made a good choice. I'm very fond of L because of his manner and quirks.

What was special to me about this episode was the presentation of everything. I especially loved the red verses blue thing going on with Light and L. Things will be pretty interesting from now on. This show has definitely surpassed my expectations.
  • "Psssst, Light! I... AM L!"

Haha, the best quote in theis episode is, "Psssst, Light! I... AM L!" That alone, not to mention Light's reaction, is the best freaking thing this anime has ever seen since sliced bread! OK, so Light gets accepted first in his class to some college, and L decides to enroll under the name Hideki Ryuga in order to keep an eye on him. So when Light gets there, he has to read some sort of college motto something or other, and since L did just as good on the exam, he had to read it too. When they finish and are going back to their seats, L gives Light a creepy smile and tells him that he is L, not Hideki Ryuga. With this new bit of information, Light flips out. I can't remember much after this, but I remember Light is super ticked at L. Pfft, when you see the beginning of the series, Light's little outburst is NOTHING compared to his future rants.
  • L makes his second move against Kira.

Light has officialy been able to avoid being caught by L with the cameras in this room, but unfortanetly, this does not stop L from suspecting him. When Light comes to this entrance ceremony, he comes in contact with L.

This is one of the most exciting episodes of the series so far. This is the first time where Light had a complete breakdown and we see for the first time Light look extremely angry because he was pushed into a corner.

There is a lot of good music, great animation, character design, and voice acting for this episode. The only problem was where L said who he was a bit too quick kind of ruinning the mood. Still, don't miss this episode no matter what!
  • L is getting closer to finding Kira.

L is still watching Light at the begging of the episode to see if he could be Kira. He starts to think he is acting to normally so he descides to no longer watch him. In stead he descides he should take matters into his own hands and survale him in person. So L and Light both take the test to get into collage. Then at the day they where being accpeted into the collage, L desicedes to give a test that would mess with Kira's brain, by telling Light his name. Light suspecs it's an allias becuase it's the same name as a famous singer so if he writes down that name the actor would die and he would be cought as Kira. But also if it really was his name, L would die and since the task force knew Light was being investigated, he would also get caught. L did his job by makeing Light start freaking out at home, he knows that they are onto him now.
  • I just started whatching this series, and this episode has been my favorite yet.

L reveals himself to Light, I mean, how can this episode not just pwn. L got to Light, who is now completely baffeled as to why L would reveal himself to him.

I also love the fact that L has to sit like that. XD He looks to funny.

L: Light. Light Yagami? Your father is Chief Soichiro Yagami of the NPA? Your respect for your father's matched only by your strong sense of justice.

Light: (thinking) Who the hell is this guy?

(after the two return to their seats)

L: You're planning to join the Police Agency when you graduate, and you've already got experience, seeing as you've helped police solve a number of cases in the past. Now, You're showing an interest in the Kira Case. I'm impressed by your abilities and your sense of justice. If you promise not to tell anyone about this, I have important information concerning the Kira Investigation that I'd like to share with you...

Light: (thinking) Where's this coming from? And who is he? Is it safe to just ignore him? But, I wonder what this information actually is?

(aloud) I won't tell anyone. What is it?

L: (directly faces Light) I want to tell you (whispers) I'm L.

Light: He got me. It was a good move. (thinking) I'm sure I haven't seen the last of Ryuga. He'll keep trying to move in on me, playing the absent-minded genius, and we'll pretend like nothing's going on.

(Light then laughs maniacally, with Ryuk looking on in confusion)

This is perfect. There's no reason for me to be worried. After all, this is proof that they don't have anything on me, yet. So this whole thing's nothing more than a contest between L and me--a match of wits. On the surface, we'll be two friendly classmates. But in reality, we'll actually be investigating each other. This is interesting, Ryuga. If it's my friendship you want, I'll gladly accept it. In time, I'll earn your trust. And once you've told me what I want to know, there'll be no point keeping you alive... and I'll kill you... with my hands if I have to.

Light and L finally meet, yay. Their meeting is plain on the surface, but there's so many mental strings attached to it that it retains some of the high cla ss of the series. L is completely unorthodox, and enjoys coming from left field once in a while. This would be his once in a while.

The contents of the episode itself left me rather cold; there was next to no advancing of the plot and only half facets of the characters are revealed. Overall, I give this episode an 8/10 on the Death Note scale. It's an entertaining watch, even thrilling at some points, but nothing overly awesome as is the majority of the rest of the series.

It starts off with Light and Ryuk walking. Ryuk is going crazy because he hasn't had an apple, but Light won't let him have one unless there is no one watching. Light said they released info on the news of people investigating being sent to Japan, but they both agree its a bluff because they wouldn't announce it if it was true. For Ryuk's job well done, he gets an apple. Ryuk is angry at the fact of Light mistreating him because of the security cameras in Light's room. Ryuk jokingly states he's going to write Light's name in his Death Note, but Light just laughs it off. Chief Yagami and the Agents continue to invesigate the case. Light's father says that his family couldn't have known about the 2 men that recently died so that should clear any doubts L has, and L surprisingly agrees. Just then, Light arrives at his house while L watches through the camera. Light enters his room, locks the door, and acts as if he was studying. Ryuk finds it amusing. Light turns on the TV and decides he should kill criminals who committed smaller crimes to not draw any attention to him. Light goes outside and kills the men he had just seen on the news using the sheet of the Death Note he keeps in his wallet. L and the Task Force begin to discuss the recent happenings with the security cameras. L comes to the conclusion that they are innocent and announces they will remove the cameras. However, L realizes that Kira wouldn't do anything obvious, so they are still under watch. L is baffled at the fact that the families he had under watch resulted in no evidence. Plus, he is shocked that Kira could still kill while under watch, that is, if it is one of those families. And L cannot believe that Kira would show no emotion for what he has done, which begs him to believe Kira has reached god-like status and might not even be real. However, he says that its absurd for a god to need a person's face and name to kill them. He rules out the occurances being an act of god, and says its a childish stunt acting as if they were a god. L realizes Kira is real, but he isn't going to expose himself that easily. He wants to try and meet Kira. Back at Light's house, Ryuk enters Light's room. He tells Light that the cameras are gone. Light doesn't respond just in case the wire-taps are still set up, but he does come to the conclusion that he isn't a suspect anymore. Light wants to use his father to gain access to L's real name. Once L is gone, Light will become the god of a new world.

The next day, Light leaves to take his exam, relieved to know he isn't a suspect. He realizes ones he gets into a University, he will have a lot more room to figure out who L is. Light arrives just in time to take the exam because he hates to wait. During the exam, a student is yelled at for not sitting properly in his chair. Light goes to look at him, and little does he know that is L! In the other realm, the other shinigami notice that more and more shinigami are entering the human world. They discuss the person Ryuk is with in the human world. Back in Japan, Light is seen at the university. He's a college student now. Light has to give an address with L, but he doesn't know its L. They give the speech. The people listening notice how different L and Light are. L talks to Light about his father. Light wonders who the guy is. L says he is impressed with Light and wants to share information with him. Light listens and says he won't tell anyone. L tells Light that he is L. Light is baffled! Light says he respects L. L wonders about how perfect Light is. Light is annoyed that he can't kill L, and wonders if it really is L. But, then again, he knows he can't kill him now anyway or it would seem obvious. Light is confused and worried. Light clears his mind to act calm. L and Light say their goodbyes. Once Light returns home, he goes straight to his room. He is frustrated about L. Ryuk wants Light to make the deal to get the eyes, but Light says its too risky! Light wants to kill L, but it would be too obvious. Ryuk notices that Light has snapped, and that it must be getting to him. Light is so confused and worried. L got him. Light is really evil now. He's gonna act like nothing is wrong. He says he has nothing to worry about because it proves they have nothing on him. They will act as classmates, but they will really be studying each other. Light wants to kill L one way or another! Great episode!

    "I'm L....."

Wow, what wonders you would think meeting the world's greatest detective. Ryuuzaki is what they call this wonderful character.

This episode was really good. Light and many otehr students do the exams to enetr teh university, but all of a sudden some weird-looking kid sitting like an abnormal person is a person behind Light. Oh, he's gotta be suspicious....

"The two people are complete opposites."

On the outside, that's true. They got the two higehst grades. After the speech, L speaks up to Light.

    "I'm L."

Light's eyes widen. Assuringly the person he's wanted to kill ever since he killed Lind L. Tailor was just right enxt to him. Oh my, what happens next....

    Truly an outstanding episode.
  • L does something unexpected and we finally see Light lose his cool.

    "Superb"
During this episode, Light has taken it upon himself to enter college. During the exam, we see that L himself is doing the exact same thing. Now I know L must be older than Light and therefore he must only be doing this to get closer to him and determine whether or not he really is Kira...but now my image of this really awesome insomniac reclusive detective is gone. Note, though, that only gets rid of "reclusive." What's left is "really awesome insomniac detective."

Surprise, surprise, both L and Light get the highest possible score, and therefore they both have to give the freshman speech at the entrance ceremony. Afterwards, L begins talking to Light, and when no one is listening speaks those three famous words: "I am L."

A brilliant but dangerous move on his part; now Light cannot safely kill him without bringing suspicion upon himself. At the end we finally see Light completely panic and freaking out, even lashing out at Ryuk when the shinigami gives some half-hearted encouragement.

He does eventually get over it, though, laughs maniacally (by the way, Light's evil laugh really needs some work), and realizes that the situation is more of a false friendship between the two, as well as a bluffing contest: i.e., whoever bluffs the best won't die. Now that the two suspect each other of being L or Kira, and are aware of the other's suspicion, things will really start getting exciting.
  • Huge twist, clever plot progression - and it's mid-series!

Well, what is there to say about this episode - it's just awesome. In this episode L and Light finally meet, just not quite as we had imagined.

The episode began building up tension when we first see L at entrance examination, and then again the excitement builds as it is L who joins Light presenting the speech; as both achieved 100% in the exam, but finally when L comes clean with Light and confronts him, the climactic moment is just worth watching the entire episode for. Light's thoughts from this moment on i thought were brilliantly done as he considers whether he believes him or not, and then his battle to remain calm. All in all, excellently done.

And apart from the especially good ending there, the entire episode was exciting , and gripping from start to finish! five stars.

Wow, what an awesome episode… this one truly makes you appreciate the depth and the lengths the writer went through with the story, to bring forth the drama and the excitement one experiences while watching this anime. If the previous eight episodes didn’t get you totally into the series, this one will… or you’re just hopeless and need to find something better to do with your time.

Needless to say this is a leap forward in the story, it all happens surprisingly fast, yet fitting; the creator/creators certainly make sure that the show is never stagnant, or anywhere near it, brilliant progression, awesome build-up, and I can’t wait for more…
  • L is just full of surprises.............

This episode is about Light going to college, and meeting L face to face....

The episode begins with Ryuk saying nobody is following them, so Light gives him an apple. L's suspicion of Light is seemingly cleared, so he takes the cameras out of the house. Light goes to the exams for college, and this is where he first sees L, although he doesnt know it's him. Later ion time, Light is now in college. This is where L comes in and tells Light he's L! Light is shocked, but pretends to be friendly with him. L takes off in a limo, and Light goes home, and becomes angry that L "got him" This marks one of the first times Light lost his cool.....

This was an exciting and unexpected episode. It also leaves a few questions. This is indeed getting good. Great episode, and things can only get better from here......
