Near, still certain the Light is Kira, must untangle the webs his target has placed in front of him. Everyone is positive that is not directly influencing the killings but to find his hand is another matter.
Near arrives in Japan finally and sets up his probes, the SPK, and quickly finds Teru, through his association with Kiyomi, and has him watched.
Meanwhile, Light informs Kiyomi that he ultimately wants her in a more important position, and Takada isn't without ambitions herself
Misa, feeling rejected and out of the picture, with Light now focused on Kiyomi, confronts her 'competition' in front of Halle Ridner, who is a mole and member of the SPK
Nears wealth of information on the whole plot is at last being filled in, and one rash move by Teru could prove to be the last piece of the puzzlemoreless

Altered Scene: Legos Near's explanation to the SPK with use of his Legos is cut short in the anime, cutting out how Near would capture Kira and X-Kira, while still keeping his explanation on how they would not capture him. Near basically tells the SPK that they must catch Kira in the act of using the death note, rubbing his face in front of their incriminating evidence, and arrest him on the spot. The only problem is that Near does not have any plans on saving the person who's name will be written down at that moment.

Altered Scene: Kiyomi's Call When Kiyomi calls Teru, asking him to send her pages of the notebook, the anime also has her ask that he continue writing names down using a fake notebook. The manga, however, keeps the information about the fake notebook until later in the series.

Altered Scene: Near and the Monitors The scene of Near following the monitors is moved from after Hal stops Misa from attacking Kiyomi, in the manga, to when Light suspects Hal to be working for the SPK, in the anime. The scene is also slightly longer in the manga, with Near explaining to Commander Rester that he suspects "X-Kira" to be someone who has been in previous contact with Kiyomi. Watching through the multiple monitors of programs worldwide that Kiyomi appeared on, Mikami Teru catches his eye. Near then madly sorts through his stack of DVDs, knocking down case after case until he finds the one marked "The KIRA Kingdom" where Mikami makes another appearance on.

Altered Scene: Dinner with Misa During Kiyomi's dinner with Misa, after Misa tells her that she will get the death penalty once Kira is caught, the anime has Kiyomi attempt to stifle a laugh with her napkin, thinking back to when Light promises that they will reign the New World as god and goddess. Thinking she is not well, Hal comes to her aid. The anime also ends the scene differently, adding a scene from later in the manga (chapter 93), with Hal reporting back to Near about the dinner. After hearing that the two discussed Light, Near reaches the conclusion that there is a love triangle between the three of them, with both women willing to follow Light with their lives. This, in turn, may make it more difficult for Light to betray either of them.
