This episode does not have the "rules of the death note" commercial bumpers like the other episodes do.
Altered Scene: Two Monologues At the start of the episode, L notices how Light rarely spends any time with Misa, with Light responding that with the Kira Case unsolved, he has no time for love at the moment. In the manga, L then begins to think to himself, wondering why Light refuses to leave the Task Force even though he is now free to come and go as he pleases. To him, it feels like light is now secretly keeping an eye on him now. At the same time, Light has his own internal monologue, saying how L must not go into hiding right now. Otherwise, he will never be able to confirm his death. Also, if L were to take the notebook, but Rem were to remain with Light, then the other Task Force members will catch on. He also mentions how the NPA being on good terms with L again give even more reason for Light to keep watch on L. As Light mentions this, Aizawa talks to Mr. Yagami about Mr. Yagami's supposed promotion. Apparently, the Task Force members have been re-employed by the NPA. Light continues, saying how since the police, Aiber and Wedy are receiving no orders from Ryuzaki at the moment, the timing is perfect for Misa to start killing criminals.
Altered Scene: The Perfect Scenario After Rem realizes Light's plan, the manga has Light go into detail about what the ideal situation would be for him at the moment: With Misa remembering Ryuzaki's true name, Light would have held off the killing of him and current criminals until the Kira Case ran out of steam. After waiting awhile, Light would finally continue killing criminals and reign in the new world. Light also considers having Misa see L once more with her shinigami eyes, but considering the security around him, it would be difficult. Either way, Light concludes that the perfect scenario would be for both Rem and L to die.
Altered Scene: L's Final Thoughts As opposed to mere silence, the manga has L provide his final thoughts as he stares at Light's evil smirk: "I knew it... I wasn't... wrong... but... I..."
Altered Scene: The Aftermath Upon all the chaos Rem caused, Light and the Task Force decide to search for the shinigami, with Mogi staying behind to take care of Ryuzaki. However, in the manga, instead of immediately searching for Rem, Mogi suggests that they should call an ambulance. Aizawa then brings up that a family member must be present as well, but Mr. Yagami brushes off the comment, saying that he will accompany him. Nearly two hours later, Soichiro comes back to the Task Force HQ confirming what they already suspected--Ryuzaki has died.
Filler Scene: The Wammy House This episode opens with a flashback of Watari taking a young L to the Wammy House, which will be explained in later episodes.
Filler Scene: Misa's stroll Taking in mind what Light told her about writing names in the Death Note, Misa walks through the city in a mesmerized state, dressed in what resembles a glass doll's outfit, while looking at the remaining life-spans of others and singing a melodic tune about how Kira will take judgement upon everyone.
Filler Scene: The rain scene As opposed to staying inside the building the entire episode, this filler scene has L walk outside on the roof of the building, while it rains, with Light following him. L talks to Light, saying that he hears bells ringing from afar. Light is confused, as he cannot hear any of the bells L talks about. L then questions Light about whether he has lied his entire life or not, to which L replies that it is impossible to go through life without telling any lies at all. The two then go inside the building, where L unexpectedly wipes off Light's wet feet, while Light hesitantly dries off L's hair in return.
Altered Scene: The blackout When Rem begins writing names into her Death Note, a blackout occurs, setting up the ambiance for what happens soon afterwards.
Light: Ryuuzaki! Hey, Ryuuzaki! Mr. Yagami: What's going on? What happened? (Light frantically screams) Mr Yagami: Light, calm down... Light: Watari... Ryuuzaki... and now... us... WE ARE NEXT! (everyone else becomes frantic) Light: Reaper, where are you?! Show yourself! You must have something to do with all this!
L: Then let me ask you, do gods of death love apples? Rem: Not necessarily; you see, our internal organs have already degraded. We've... evolved to a point where we do not require sustenance.
L: Oh well, if there is another notebook floating around out there and someone is using it to kill criminals, then I'll just have to bring that person to justice.
L: Say Light, you're finally free to leave headquarters on your own, but it seems like you never go out. Even when Misa comes to visit, you only go out to chat with her for a few minutes outside. You do realize you're free to have a relationship with her now? Light: That can wait until we've managed to solve this case. I'm not in the mood for love or anything else right now. Anyway, are you suggesting that I'll be a nuisance for staying here? L: ...No.
L: (to Light) You and I will be parting ways soon...
(L reaches for Light's feet) Light: What are you doing? L: I thought I might help you out. You were busy wiping yourself off, anyway. Light: Look, it's fine. You don't have to do that. L: I can give you a massage as well. it's the least I can do to atone for my sins. I'm actually pretty good at this. Light: Fine, do what you want. L: Alright...
Watari: (to L) What's wrong?
Rem: (thinking) So that's what you're plan is... you're truly disgusting!
Light: Whatever it was… Whatever happened... I will definitely avenge Ryuzaki.
L: We are very close to closing the case! If this condition is cleared, the case will be resolved in one step!
L: I'm sad. Light: Hmm? L: You'll understand soon…
L: But, you're the same as me. Light: What do you mean? L: Since you were born have you ever told anyone the truth even once?
L: Well, if there is another notebook and someone is using it… I will not fail to capture that person.
Light: (thinking) I've gotten rid of everything in my way. I am the God of the new world!
Light: What are you doing, Ryuzaki? L: Nothing in particular-- it's just the bells... Light: Bells? L: Yes. The bells are really loud today. Light: (looks around) I don't hear anything. L: Really? The conditions are favorable today, so you can't help but hear them. It's a church. Maybe a wedding? Or-- Light: What are you talking about, Ryuzaki? Don't be saying such useless things. Let's go back.

L's Panda Sweets The panda shaped sweets that L is seen eating in the episodes are incredibly similar to the "Hello Panda" sweets. The sweets are a popular brand of Japanese biscuits filled with either vanilla, strawberry, peanut butter, or chocolate filling and are manufactured by Meiji Seika.
L washing Light's feet Throughout the Bible, it is a habit for people to wash the feet of those who visit their home as a sign of respect, since people normally picked up dirt on their feet when traveling. The best example of this in the bible is when Jesus insists on washing the feet of his followers. This scene is reversed in Death Note, when L washes Light's feet, as if he were admitting that Light truly is the god that he claims himself to be. Light notices that L's hair is wet, so he hesitantly wipes his hair in return.
