  • You don't get an anti-protagonist as cunning as Light.

    "Superb"
I commend Light for his strategy in this episode. Tricking Raye into using a page from the Death Note to kill the FBI agents was a cunning plan. While I do think that Light's actions were cruel, they were necessary for him to feel at ease. After all, he's just getting rid of those who stand in his way.

Things are getting interesting now Raye's fiancée is taking the case personally. She is working with her detective skills to trace Kira's whereabouts, unknown to Light. She seems very capable and her mind seems to be sharper than Raye's was. But from looking at preview it seems that Light has some sort of plan for her already.

And the cliffhanger is the moment we've been waiting for. It looks like L is going to reveal himself in the next episode. I think he is ready to make his move against Kira, but he has no idea who Kira is. Whereas Light knows that L is with the police and his father, so he is currently one step ahead. I also believe he may be a bit smarter than L but I will reserve that judgement for now.
  • Light kills the person the was following him. He also goes back to what he has done to check for any way that someone can accuse him of being Kira. L gets ready to show his face.

This was a good episode. Light's cleverness is shown in this episode as it has been shown many times before. He kills the person that was following him and managed to kill others as well that were in the Kira case. I think it 12 people to be exact. Light also goes back through the steps that he has taken to see for any way of anyone to accuse him of being Kira. It is clearly not a surprise that he would do this because obviously Light doesn't want to be caught. L also prepares to show his face to the 5 other people that stayed on Kira's case. Overall, this episode was good.
  • Light's just a bully! And he's going to give me diabetes.

So what? LIGHT IS A BULLY! I don't care if he writes my name in the Death Note! Know why? HE'S NOT REAL! Ahem. Light goes sneaking around and stalks his stalker, Raye Penber. He sneaks up on him and tells him that he is The Kira. He forces him on this train and demands the names of the FBI investigators, or his fiancee will be killed. Raye does as he is told, but Light kills him anyway, along with the rest of the FBI agents. At home, Mr. Yagami tells his family about the Kira investigation. Light's little sister is excited that her dad is the leader, but Light is "worried". In a sense. Now he has to battle his dad. He pretends to be horrified, and that if anything happens to him, Light will bring Kira to justice. BULL! OMG, Light's act was so sugary sweet that he's going to give me diabetes! I mean, how could you not suspect him of being The Kira? Meanwhile, Raye's fiancee is horrified over his death and has dedicated herself to finding The Kira and having him executed. Also, L contacts the task force and tells him that he is ready to reveal himself. But the episode cuts out before we can see what he looks like!
  • Light makes his move against the FBI and L reveals himself

Once again, Light does an incredible job in what he does and that is killing people.

The episode opens up where the last one ended. This episode introduces the minor character Namoi who has been voiced nicely as well. Light uses Rayne to kill off the rest of the FBI investigators in Japan without Rayne finding out and then kills him in a clever fashion.

The second half of the episode deals with the police force handling the news and breaking down into a 5 man squad consisting of Light's dad and 4 other investigators. Once the numbers have died done to this small amount, L requests for these people to meet him in person in order to further investigate the Kira case. The episode ends just as we are about to meet L, what a cliff hanger!

Great music, flawless animation, a strong plot and good voice acting makes this a must see episode.
  • The first of many.

Many of you may wonder why I give such a "low" score to this episode. There's a ranking curve that Death Note gets all to itself, and on that curve, this is where this episode lies. It will reach a point when you can go no further but wish you could.

This episode showcased the first of Light's many intricate plots to rid himself of threats. While brilliant when considered on its own, it actually isn't that great--especially when compared to those later in the series.

Overall, the episode is wonderful, well-thought-out, and nerve-wracking. The dialogue is decent, though the English translation cut out a few points (such as telling Raye not to forget his own name). I give the episode 9/10.
  • 13 deaths in one episode...

This program can't get any more clever but who would of thought that he would kill off normal agents whod o nothing more than do their job... after all they crossed Kira off the list so why should he go and kill him? This has also gained him another enemy who also seems to be very clever... Will Kira be able to handle 7 people at once and one including his dad? Thats the situation i am looking forward to.. What this episode also did for me is make me wonder who is ahead of who in this brain battle? The episode is very clever in the way that Kira gets rid of more people that are on his back and with perfect timing as well and i'm beginning to really get into this. however you can't deny that it is a very evil program.
  • Light uses Ray Penbar in a way that shows his motto could be "kill two birds with one stone." Or twelve birds for that matter.

Light Yagami is a tricky, tricky kid. His almost endless experiments using the Death Note have informed him that you can write someone's cause of death before writing their actual name. He puts this idea to use with Ray Penbar. Light gives Penbar a cleverly-disguised sheet of paper from the Death Note and gets him to write down the name of every single FBI agent in Japan. He had already written the times and causes of death which were hidden under the paper he'd placed on top. Thus, Light gets Ray Penbar to kill his fellow FBI agents. Tricky, tricky kid. Meanwhile, almost every single officer on the Kira investigation quits, leaving only five, including Light's dad. This was actually part of L's plan; he will show his face only to those he can trust. L has never shown himself during a case before ever, so this is a significant move as it means he must be getting serious.
  • The plot thickens...

Ray Penbar, an unfortunate FBI agent who just happened to be the one requested to tail Light, (because of Light’s connection with his father in the police agency) is now in danger of having his own name written in the Death Note. But first, Light plans on using him to eliminate the threat of the FBI…

This episode is skillfully cinematized, the imagery is carefully tied in with the haunting music, and the climax is disturbingly gratifying, but extremely sad in many ways… but that’s Death Note for you. Great episode… just like the ones prior now that I think about it… great show so far, bravo.
  • Light is just brilliant.......

This episode is about Light forcing Raye Penber to do as he says, without Raye knowing the identity of Kira.

The episode begins with the bus hijacker lying on the ground, dead. Raye returns home to his girlfriend who is now suspicious of the person who was on the bus with him (she doesnt know it was light). Light puts his plan into motion by going behind Raye at a train station, saying he's Kira, and he'll kill him if he doesnt do as he says. One thing leads to another, and raye is told to board a train, and fill out a sheet of paper with slots in them of the FBI agents. This is actually the death note. So not only does Light kill Raye, he succeeds in killiing many FBI agents.

This was yet another brilliant episode. The momments on the train are what really stood out. It also seriously showed Light's brilliance, but fear not L fans, L is about to show his brilliance too...... Overall, a great episode worth watching.....
