  • An underwhelming useless episode

    4.5
Better than the last one, but still crappy. It offered nothing new to the plot, like sitting through a boring recap. All I can say is this episode was not for me.
  • Light might be in hot water if he's not careful.

    9.5
Compared to the previous episode, this was a much more subdued episode. But at the end, you could cut the tension with a knife.

L's proves that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. His mannerisms are certainly rather odd. It's probably because he rarely interacts with people that he acts in such a way. His posture is hunched, his motions are eccentric, and his eyes are dull, but you then realize that he is the mastermind who is the only one capable of bringing down Kira.

I think this episode hits home that Light is not only smart, but also very lucky. I really like Raye's fiancée. She's got a good head on her shoulders. But if I was in her place, I would've held some reservations. She naively fell for Light's charm and politeness. From the preview it looks like he's going to get rid of her.moreless
  • L reveals his face to the task force and explains his thoughts on who Kira is and how he works. Light goes back to see his actions and makes sure no one can conclude that he is Kira.moreless

I think this was a very good episode. L finally revealed his face but more importantly we get to see what are his thought on the Kira case as well as what he thinks on finally revealing his face. I think that is a good episode because it marks the beginning of what is going to be a difficult case. Light also examines his actions and makes sure no one can conclude that he is Kira. L took many precautions before the meeting started to make sure no one heard the information that was about to be discussed. We also learn that L likes sweet things which could be seen by the amount of sugar that he put into his drink which I think was coffee.moreless
  • Light meets the former future Mrs. Penber

    10
Tsk, tsk. Light is just so mean. That poor woman and Raye Penber would have had a wonderful life together is Light hadn't murdered him in cold blood. And now, Raye's former fiancee has figured out that The Kira can kill people more than just giving them heart attacks and is bound and determined to tell someone on the task force. Prefereably L or Light's dad. Light decides he has to stop her. The woman willingly tells Light her name, but Ryuk laughs like a crazy person every time it comes up. Could it be an alias? DUH! Of course it's an alias! She's trying to catch Kira, not get killed by him! Although, Light does happen too..... I've said too much. I happened to see a future episode before this one. I don't want to spoil it for you.moreless
  • in this episode light meets a woman who can be a threat to kira.

    9.9
I love raye's finace, she is a genius. the only stupid thing is telling Light her name. but you can't blame her, only had all the evidence to come up with a conclusion that kira needed a name and a face. She really wants revenge for her husband's death, i think she really spooked light by figuring out that kira can kill in more than one way didn't she. It sucks how light is going to kill her next episode though, i think she could have been a useful ally to l. I also loved seeing l's face. He is a little bit weird but i think he'll become sweet later.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • In this episode, we finally get to see L's face (as he meets with Chief Yagami, Light's father, as well as the other NPA members who agreed to cooperate with him). However, his face has already been shown in the opening credits since the very first episode.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Light: (thinking about Penber's fiancé) She knows? Who is this woman?

    • Penber's fiancé: You see, he was also my fiancé. While he was working, he got caught up in the bus-jacking and I have to reason to believe that he met Kira on that bus.
      Light: Raye Penber!

    • Light: (to Penber's fiancé) If what you're telling me is true, then it'll only be a matter of time before the police catch up with Kira. The person your fiancé showed his ID to on the bus that day... it had to be Kira.
      Penber's fiancé: That's right.
Light: (thinking) That was close! This woman... if she'd spoken to the police before I met her... but, it seems there's a God on my side after all. And not just a god of death.

    • Light: I'm sure my father will be calling me back once he checks his messages. When he does, I'll give you the phone and let you talk to him.
Penber's Fiancé: You sure that's alright?
Light: Oh, yeah. You understand why I can't just give you my father's cell phone number, but I have no problem letting you use my phone to talk to him. You'll have to trust my father and I, which I hope won't be too difficult for you. (he gives a fake laugh)
Ryuk: (thinking) Why is he so happy?

    • L: Please turn off all your cell phones, handhelds and any other communication devices and leave them on the table, right there.
Aizawa: What, do you think we're gonna be using our cell phones during this meeting to leak information?!
Soichiro: It's alright. Just do as he says.
Matsuda: (as everyone puts their cell phones on the table) I realize he's been cautious from the very beginning, but I still can't tell if he trusts us or not.
L: No, I just find them distracting. I can't stand it when people's cell phones are ringing while I'm trying to talk.

    • (After the 5 NPA members show their badges)
L: (pointing his finger at the NPA members as if it were a gun) Bang!
Aizawa: What the hell was that?
L: If I were Kira, you'd be dead, Mr. Soichiro Yagami, chief of the NPA. Kira needs a face and a name in order to commit murder. But I'm sure you've already figured that much out, haven't you? Please do not give out your names so carelessly. Instead, let's value our lives.

    • Matsuda: (Thinking to himself upon meeting L) He's somehow different from what I imagined...

    • Light: It seems that a god, other than a Death God, is on my side.

    • L: So, does anyone have any questions?
Soichiro: Actually, Ryuzaki, I do have one questions for you. And it pertains to what you said to us earlier about how you hate to lose. Does the fact that you've shown us your face mean that you've lost? By just being here, are you admitting defeat to Kira?
L: That's right. By showing my face to you now and by sacrificing the lives of twelve FBI agents, I have lost the battle... But I'm not gonna lose the war. This is the first time I've ever put my life on the line. I want to show Kira that we're all willing to risk our lives if that's what it takes... (smiles) and that justice will prevail no matter what.
      Mogi: Hey yeah, that's right!
Matsuda: I like the sound of that.
      Ukita: We can do this!
Aizawa: Alright then! Let's do this, Ryuzaki!
Soichiro: (thinking) Well, I had my doubts about whether it was really him at first, but there's no mistaking it. This man is L.

    • Matsuda: If we know he [Kira] needs a name and a face to kill, couldn't we cut down on the number of victims by keeping criminals' names from the news?
L: If we do that, we'll only be putting the general public at risk.
      Ukita: "The general public"?
      Aizawa: Why?
L: Kira is childish and he hates losing.
      Matsuda: But how do you..?
Soichiro: Just what do you mean?
L: Well... I'm also childish and I hate to lose. That's how I know.
Soichiro: Ryuzaki, would you mind being a little more specific for us?
L: Early on in the investigation, I tried to provoke Kira with that broadcast. Up until then, we thought that Kira would only go after criminals. But as we all witnessed, he didn't hesitate to kill my stand-in. Also, as soon as I said we knew he was in the Kanto region, in defiance, he made sure his next victims came from within Japan, as if to say, "...and what are you gonna do about it?" He's met each of my challenges head on and he's never missed an opportunity to return the favor. Now what do you think would happen if we tried to use media restrictions to hide criminals from someone like that?
      Matsuda: I guess...
L: "If you choose to withhold the names of your worst criminals, I'll kill petty criminals or the innocent. I'm holding the whole world hostage, so who's it gonna be? I'm not the evil one here. But all those who oppose me by hiding criminals-- you are truly evil." (takes a deep breath) That's exactly how Kira thinks.
