  • Terrible direction for characters

    4.0
Just about every character in this show has been written and directed poorly. Nolan is perhaps the only exception, although his brutish charm is barely given a chance to flex itself. Amanda's scenes consist entirely of the following: a) partaking in drugs b) prostituting herself and c) wearing a veil over her eyes and looking like she just left a funeral. This is the woman that led Defiance and held a high moral standard in season one. Irisa has been relegated to an extra, as her dialogue barely expands beyond a series of grunts. Tommy is now an unlikable jackass who insists on tilting his head at a 45 degree angle in order to telegraph his shift to the dark side. Datak, the man we loved to hate in season 1, is just about the only character we are rooting for. That says a lot.

In trying to come up with worse outcomes for each of these characters, nothing could possibly outdo the train wreck you are now watching. If the entire cast was killed by razor rain and replaced with blind mutes, it would have been an improvement. There was plenty of indication that the showrunners had no idea how to use the concepts and characters in season one, and this episode is proof enough of their failings.moreless
  • Stahma teaches Datak a lesson

    9.0
Stahma teaches Datak a lesson after he refuses her a business partnership, punishes their son and kills one of his employees for taking orders from a woman. Can't wait until the next episode
  • Best Defiance episode.

    10
This has definitely been the best episode in both seasons so far. Great script writing, excellent playing.
  • Great episode!

    10
This was a really interesting episode as major events happen and we get great back stories on soem characters. The storyline with the attack on the Earth Republic convoy was interesting and ultimately very well done, although Rafe doing what he did at the end was a little unexpected.

But I mostly loved the Tarr storyline. That wsa really interesting and I absolutely love Stahma's character. The last scene was prefect and I can'y wait to see what happens next!moreless

    • Amanda: Again? Seriously?
      Nolan: Practice makes perfect.
Amanda: Oh, I like your work ethic. Oh, no. I have a staff meeting in ten minutes. I gotta kick you out.
Nolan: You mean I'm not getting sex because you have to go to work in a whorehouse.
Amanda: Mm, the irony is delicious.

    • Nolan: So you got yourself paroled from Camp Reverie, huh? How exactly did you manage that.
      Yewll: Raw sex appeal.

    • Niles: If I had you sent down to Reverie or, better still, shot in the head. It'd break Amanda's heart. And I'm not willing to do that at the moment. You lie to me again, Nolan, I will revise that policy.
