  • They say romance is dead, and they were right

    5.5
Oh dear, what have they done? Amanda wearing a veil for most of her dialogue is beyond ridiculous. She's now a drugged-up prostitute running her sisters bar. Of the list of things season 2 needed to move away from, the sleazy prostitution aspect of the show was near the top. It is desperate television, just like the lesbian scenes in the first season. The potential romance arc for the two leads never happened. Progress directly to Bed, do not pass Go and do not collect $200.

Outside of the non romance, we have Nolan saving Stahma to regain his street cred. And we have Irisa, who was going to tell Tommy all her secrets, stop when sees him sleeping with the Kommandant. This season seems to be avoiding the formula that works. One that focuses on the terraformed world, the father-daughter relationship and alien wonders.moreless
  • Great episode!

    9.0
I just LOVED the conversation in the market between Stahma and the new mayor when he suggested releasing her husband, the look on her face was pure gold! I also loved the sneakiness of Datak trying to get out of prison.
  • FFS ENOUGH of the nazi metaphors in Defiance!

    1.0
It is well apparent season/series 2 of Defiance has a strong Nazi overtone!

    Get over it.

It will be great when the last person who can remember the war titled (mis-correctly) as WW2.... are dead. Then and only then will we stop being subjected to pseudo-Nazi wannbe Hollywood.

Churchill was an imbecile and to call someone Berlin? WTF!!!

There were far greater historical figures: Attila the Hun, the list stretches to the beginnings of written human history! Focusing on the most recent... is shear IRNORANCE! (Hollywood should know better!)

  • Interesting developments.

    10
Another good episode which sees Nolan and Irisa arrive ack in Defiance and their arrival has a series of implications and it was all really interesting - Nolan and Amanda is an exciting prospect, but that mayor knows quite a lot with his little camera... while Tommy has moved on, and rebellion is certainly brewing in the mines in more ways than one.

I also really loved Datak's attempt to ascertain freedom - it was clever and very fitting to the character. It was bold but ultimately I think he underestimated his enemy.

I am very much looking forward to where this goes next!moreless

    • Irisa: I told you I need to be here.
Nolan: Drive 2,000 miles, you might have told me why.
Irisa: Another 2,000 miles, I woulda shot you.
Nolan: No, we all know you prefer blades.

    • Amanda: We need someone who can track this killer fast, and we happen to have a world-class tracker right here. If he wants his daughter out of jail, let's make him earn it.
Pottinger: Your ex-Lawkeeper. A war criminal.
Amanda: He helped us beat the Volge. He tracker Buster Bullwin across the Storm Divide and presented Starren Dahrti with the head of the man who murdered his sister. He'll find our bomber.

    • Berlin: You're a really happy cowboy, aren't you?
Nolan: Did you really just call me a happy cowboy?
Berlin: It's written all over your face, the way you carry yourself. that jokey tough guy schtick. I bet you watched Star Wars a few hundred times when you were a kid.
Nolan: You know, we've been through a long, bloody war. Some of us have developed this thing called a sense of humor...
      Berlin: Bull shtak.
Nolan: ... to help us stay sane.
Berlin: You're not trying to paper over your nasty wartime past. We all have that. You're trying to hide the fact that you like where it dumped you out. Driving around in that busted-ass roller with your hot Chewbacca, chupping whores.
      Nolan: Oh.
Berlin: Shooting people who cause you trouble. Call that hand cannon strapped to your side a blaster and you got the complete picture. You're living your fantasy and it only took ten years of an apocalyptic war and the near destruction of the earth's surface.

    • Nolan: We should probably find some lodgings.
Irisa: I'm going out. Don't wait up.
      Nolan: Where are you going?
Irisa: I made Tommy a promise.
      Nolan: Tommy? Tommy's good.
      Irisa: You're an idiot.
Nolan: We like Tommy very much.
      Irisa: Don't care!
      Nolan: Nice boy, good prospects.

    • Amanda: Look, I know what it's like to have power, and I know what it's like to not have power. Having it is better.
