Season 1 Episode 8

Little White Lies

Aired Monday 8:30 PM Dec 19, 1989 on CBC

  • Trivia

    • Trivia: The liquor that Diana brings to the party is Ouzo. It's a traditional Greek liquor, like Sambuca. It's made from grapes and berries, and both tastes and smells a lot like black licorice. It's 80 proof, and very strong.

    • Product Placement: There are two bottles of Coke sitting on the table, facing the camera, in the scene at the strip club.

    • Trivia: Diana's brother George is wearing a (fake) Members Only jacket. The real versions were hot items and worn by all the "in crowd" in the 1980s.

    • Trivia: Diana's mom is not very observant, as Diana sneaks out within feet of her.

    • Trivia: Lots of kids were outside smoking, but Miss Avery only busts Yick, Luke, and Diana.

  • Quotes

    • Joey & Wheels: GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS!
      Snake: SEXational!
Joey: Oh, oh Snake, Snake; your ID, man.
Snake: Great, we're both called Joey Jeremiah. Very convincing.
Joey: Just flash it quick. Look, if you're scared....
Snake: I'm NOT scared. I just don't want to get in trouble.
Joey: You're not going to get in trouble.
Snake: We ALWAYS get in trouble.

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Self Reference: The Zits manage to get their video on tv. It is to air on the local community cable channel on Monday at 8:30 p.m., and Joey makes a comment about how there's nothing else to watch at that time. Monday at 8:30 p.m. was when Degrassi High aired.

    • Book Reference: The book that Diana becomes obsessed with is The Outsiders (1967), by S.E. Hinton. Diana thinks that it would be great to live life like that; however the book deals with social divisions and bullying; and the main characters end up being on the run from the law.

    • Movie Reference: Diana compares Yick to Ponyboy and Sodapop Curtis. These are two characters in the movie The Outsiders (1983). Ponyboy Curtis was played by C. Thomas Howell; Sodapop Curtis was played by Rob Lowe.
