  • Michelle gets a job. Lucy and twins surprise L.D. for her birthday.

"Sixteen" Part 2 is a great Degrassi High episode. In this episode, Michelle gets a job so she can pay the rent for her house and to buy food for herself. It's awful how she has no time for homework and no time for her friends. I love how Michelle worked some things out with her father, but I like how she's still in charge of her life, but he's going to help her pay rent. I love how Lucy films a video for L.D. birthday. And I love how Lucy and the twins surprise L.D. at the hospital. I give this episode a 9/10.moreless

I at first, when I saw it was a 2-part, thought Michelle was going to have trouble finding a job, and moving back with Alexa, and other trouble. But I'm glad to see she does get a job, she just has to deal with the pressure. And her dad going after her. They never say how she gets her stuff, or how her dad reacts, except he was "mad", and here we see him conning Michelle for the pawn ticket for her special ring. I loved when she said "I can talk any way I want, this is my house, not yours". And when she then tells BLT that he sounds like her dad; only a preview of the concept that many wives later see their husbands as like their fathers, and/or react to them the same way. But it's good to see that her dad was learning that she has feelings too, and she also was learning that. That's part of what being an adult is all about. I think, with Alexa's plot, it's implied that there was a scene where Lucy gave her a good talking-to. Something along the lines of "you're so upset because a few people can't come to your birthday party? You should count your blessings; at least you can have a party, and not spend your birthday in the hospital!" Leading to her getting her cake to share with LD. What a touching, tear-jerking scene. What a laugh to see how Joey and Snake lament over their driving tests! Except when Snake was nervous and Joey was laughing at him. But that was priceless, seeing Nancy drive by in her car!moreless

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Trivia: Michelle's job is at Donut Express. She is expected to work 32 hours a week and attend school full-time.

    • -Michelle's boss convinces her to cut school on at least one occasion to come to work instead. What kind of boss is this?

    • Continuity Goof: While shooting the video for LD, the twins have on stripes and polka dots, then a few minutes later have on sweater outfits, then go back to the same stripes and dots again. It makes no sense, no matter whether the video was made in one day or over the course of two or three days. Either they changed outfits mid-day for no apparent reason, and then changed back again, or they wear the same clothes more than once in a week. Either situation is unlikely.

    • Product Placement: Simon gets a part in a commercial for Skippy Peanut Butter.

    • -Even though LD says it's ok for Lucy to tell the other kids about her illness, and Lucy does because she enlists the help of a lot of other kids to make a video for her, the twins deny that she's seriously ill when asked by Allison and Amy.
