Degrassi Junior High

"Fight!" is a great Degrassi Junior High episode. I love this episode because I believe every teen drama needs to have a good fight scene. I love how there's two sides to Dwayne. I love how he acts like this big bully to Joey, and to be honest sometimes Joey is basically asking to get bullied. But I also love the nice side to Dwayne when he's nice to Scooter. But that's because Scooter initially treats him with respect. Anyways, I love the Joey versus Dwayne fight. Stephanie's plot was entertaining trying to get Simon to notice her. I give this episode a 9/10.

Dwayne, the school bully, challenges Joey to an after school fight. After almost chickening out, Joey shows up to fight, but still gets hurt. Desperate to win Simon's affections, Stephanie asks him if he wants to help out with the school dance. She is later crushed when he tells her he is dating Alexa and isn't interested in seeing her. I'm not sure why a 98 lb guy like joey thinks he has a chance in a fight with a 300 lb guy like dwayne. anyways in real life school bullying is far more rampant than a 1/2 hour episode could show. and in real life the bullying doesnt stop when the show ends. one thing I did like about this episode is stephanie looks incredibly hot in it.

Ok, anyone who messes with my man Joey has to go through me first!! Dwayne bullies Joey, then challenges him to a fight at Schuyler Park. Joey doesn't want to go, because he knows he'll get pummeled, but he shows up, because he doesn't want people to label him a "chicken". He got in a couple of good shots, but Dwayne, who is much bigger and stronger, pummels him. But, in the end, Joey comes out looking like the victor and not the victim...



Stephanie thinks she FINALLY has a date with Simon, but her world comes crashing down when Simon tells her he is going with Alexa.

One of my favorite episodes. Ordinarily tv sitcoms involving a fight with a bully of some level would normally end in no violence being shown. They would come up with a ridiculous Howdy Doody ending where the bully ended up "seeing the light". What a crock. Credit to Degrassi Junior High for showing us what really happens and would take place.



Joey (still playing the jerk at this point) has his words erupt in disaster when another kid catches him in the act of insulting. The kid, Dwayne is a bit of an oddity, he has a few friends and nobody seems to like him. Scooter, a small , skinny kid offers him a bag of cheetos and an unlikely friendship develops. Yeah that silly and far-fetched but we see where the writers are going.



Dwayne challenges Joey to a fight and everyone knows Joey can’t fight worth a damn but that’d doesn’t stop Dwayne from making an example of him. When Joey considers not showing for the fight, everyone calls him a chicken. This is a classic example of male emasculation. Despite the fact that everyone denies that they hate to see two guys fight it for another, it’s a rite of passage in life. You’re declared the winner (whether you’re the bad or good guy) when you beat the living hell out of your player. This is where Degrassi Junior high makes a statement with their show. We see a complete reversal of fortune at the end. Dwayne (victorious) ends up looking like the big bully and we see Joey (beaten up but with pride) become the hero. We do feel sympathy for Dwayne, however, when Dwayne reasserts his physical nature to beat up somebody clearly weaker than him, the whole purpose of the fight is distorted. Moreover, we know that Joey doesn’t want to fight which makes Dwayne look even less sympathetic.



It’s a great episode. In this age, we still have this rite of passages especially in schools. In society as well and our culture we celebrate the winners in a war and forget that there are no real winners or losers here.



The ending has an impact on how Joey is perceived and Scooter looks at Dwayne in a new fashion. This episode in a way ends up creating a whole new found respect for Joey and is definitely a potential turning point in the character.

Good continuity, but I don\'t like watching fights. Though it is good to see that bullies have feelings too. And how Scooter helps Dwayne process his. How often do we see the little guy and the big guy taking advantage of the outcast label they share? But that is SO Joey, how he tries everything to get out of the fight; even asking for extra help after school. It\'s good to finally settle Stephanie\'s obscession with Simon and all the pathetic tricks she tries to get to it. And it made me admire Simon for standing up for his relationship with Alexa. Nice to know there are guys who are faithful; and at that young age too!
