  • Arthur is upset that his father has a new girlfriend.

"Making Whoopee" is an alright Degrassi Junior High episode. I really don't like the "A" plot in this episode. I don't care that Arthur doesn't like his dad's new girlfriend. I feel like this was a wasted plot for Arthur because we're given no real reason as to why Arthur dislikes her. It was awful that his father broke up with her. I mainly enjoy this episode for the subplot. I love how Melanie is still in love with Snake and Kathleen pairs them together when they volunteer at Parents Night. It was so embarrassing when her lipstick smudged on her teeth. I give this episode a 6/10.moreless
  • Arthur's dad has a new girlfriend, and it takes up too much of his time with him. He and Yick plot to break them up. Parents' night is especially hurtful, when his dad brings her. Melanie is paired with Snake for giving Parents' Night tours.moreless

I love the plot with Arthur. Clearly his dad is still bitter that his mom won the lottery. But he also didn't win the custody battle; nor did her, or else Arthur would be living with her instead. Most interesting part is when Arthur walks in and finds Carol in bed with his dad. Moral of the story, never invite a date for night when you have kids; wait till they're at a sleepover, or the other parent, or whatever. And relationships are more complicated in this case. Shows clearly in the dad bringing her to parents' night, and Alex mistaking him for Arthur's mom. And her leaving right as soon as Arthur starts saying "she's not my mother". Clearly, Arthur was close to his dad before this. And it's hard. And on the other hand, when they break up, Arthur feels guilty, because he still doesn't have his real dad back; more like a repeat of his sadness after the divorce. Glad to see Melanie and Kathleen being friends again, and how Kathleen seems to think Melanie must be at least a better friend than Allison and Amy. Or the therapy must be working. We never get a follow-up on that.moreless
