  • L.D.'s father ends up in the hospital.

    9.0
    "Superb"

"Nothing to Fear" is an excellent Degrassi Junior High episode. It's actually the first intense episode of the series. In this episode, L.D.'s father goes to the hospital and L.D. has an extreme fear of hospitals since her mother died in one. I love how this episode had layers. I love how L.D. has to deal with wanting to prove that girls can do anything boys can do, and at the same time, she feels so bad that her dad's in the hospital. Her character really grew a lot in this episode. I love the subplot of the snake escaping the cage and everyone is freaking out. I give this episode a 9/10.

  • worst DJH ep ever

L.D. is worried when her father is admitted to the hospital. She fears that after losing her mother to cancer, her father will die as well. She is afraid to see him in the hospital, as it may stir up memories of when her mother was stayed there. She is relieved when everything turns out ok, and her father returns home. Amadeus, the school snake, is loose somewhere in Degrassi, which terrifies Melanie.

words cant do justice to how bad this episode was. just watch it for yourself. could well be the worst 1/2 hour of tv ever.
  • LD likes helping her widowed father in his garage but now he wants her to be more ladylike. She gets mad at him, and then he goes to the hospital, and she has mixed emotions. She is doing a project with Spike and Voula and it causes them trouble as well.

This can be a severe wake-up call episode. LD almost has her words come back to haunt her, when she tells him to "drop dead" and he then has a heart attack. Except he doesn't die. We find out here that LD's mom died when she was younger. It's good to show the mixed emotions; the guilt, the re-living memories, and wondering how to go on from that. It doesn't say much about how her dad has been handling that or how long it's been; just that LD has at least 2 older brothers who recently moved out; it's uncertain if that was for college or what. But she's the youngest and only girl. One can easily feel for Spike; every time she gets assigned to do a project with LD she ends up doing all the work. Sounds like she was a good student who got taken advantage of; interesting how the tables turn later. Voula is really sweet about it, though. Maybe because LD didn't use her on purpose like she did Stephanie, or because they weren't that close anyway, so what did she know? Friendship is complicated in junior high, and this shows it. The sub-plot about the snake was just silly, but made for good comedy.
