  • Rumours spread around Degrassi that Ms. Avery is a lesbian.

    "Superb"

"Rumour Has It" is a great Degrassi Junior High episode. I love how this episode dealt with sexuality so early on in the show. This episode dealt with two issues at the same time. It dealt with sexuality and rumours. In this episode, there are rumours that Ms. Avery's a lesbian. I love how Caitlin questions her sexuality in this episode because she likes Ms. Avery as a teacher. I love how Ms. Avery explained hormones and stuff like that to Caitlin. I love how Caitlin said that she would still like Ms Avery as a teacher even if she was a lesbian. I love how Melanie was only person who stood up for Ms. Avery. I give this episode a 9/10.

Many of Ms. Avery's students think that she is a lesbian. Caitlin, who admires her teacher, defends these rumours and insists that her teacher isn't gay After dreaming that her classmates think that she is also gay Caitlin begins to act self-conscious at school. Caitlin confronts her teacher, who informs her student that she is not gay After confiding that she has been questioning her own sexuality, Ms. Avery informs Caitlin that these dreams are perfectly normal and that everyone her age has them. Meanwhile, Yick finds that $20 is missing from his locker. He begins to think Rick is the culprit when Rick suddenly starts giving out free licorice to everyone at school. its difficult to rate this one. i know the degrassi producers wanted to push the barrel, be daring, and touch on taboo subjects. but that doesnt mean you have to have a whole classroom of kids yelling "lesbian, lesbian" at you. they could have had the same story without being so ridiculously vulgar. it was well written but those chants of lesbian lesbian were too much.
  • Caitlin keeps dreaming that Ms Avery is being talked of as gay. Then she dreams that she's gay. She is confused at what makes someone gay and therefore what would life look like as a gay.

This episode is hurting. It's good to bring out the concept of being gay for awareness, but Kathleen is totally nasty about it. Plus, dreams don't come true that well. Though it's good to talk about dreams, though, and what they mean. Ms Avery said it right, that often they're just sorting out your emotions. It can happen over issues of sexual orientation, feelings for another person, processing the end of a relationship, or a death. If dreams brought out all our inner desires, we'd all be messed up! The sleepover was just silly. Making prank calls and wondering why certain things. Really shows some ignorance; not even thinking that another woman answering Ms Avery's phone could be her mother or sister or roommate. How narrow is Kathleen's world? I have to commend Melanie for trying to be open-minded about it. I like the way Ms Avery tries to set things right with Caitlin.
