Today (I think) GLAAD announced the nominees for their 23rd annual awards, and Degrassi was nominated in the Outstanding Drama Series!

Let's hope FIONA and Adam beat Emily, Ian, Calzona, and random Brit guy!

It's just an activist award. Degrassi has done everything but bisexuals, whose existence is staunchly denied by gay/lesbian activists.

Well I've always considered Paige their bisexual character considering she's had her fair share of both genders and ended up with a guy in the end (well at least before Degrassi Goes Hollywood where Griffin was nowhere to be seen.)

No, no, they made it clear it was a phase. Repeatedly. The other thing they've done is make sure you in no way think that AIDS is spread by promiscuity to the point that even if your sex partner is promiscuous and you're 100% faithful to him or her, you're still at risk. (Interestingly enough, lesbians aren't. Unless they're into vampirism, of course.)

Eh, activist awards fall into the Strong Female Character™ category writers are always so proud of themselves for. Why does a franchise talk so much about its positive portrayal of women and minorities? Because it can.
