Okay, this is the last thing I am going to say about this since I keep going on and on about it lol...

The quality is not as bad as I once thought. It looks pretty nice actually.

The price of $13.99 is also very fair.

I just wish deleted scenes and minis were included like always and they weren't double sided discs which just seems so old fashioned to me.

Overall, a decent set. I just wish more extras would be included. I also just realized that they may decide to include more extras on the 2nd set. Maybe they were waiting until then to include minis and deleted scenes. At least that is my hope.

My dvd set just came in and I'm pleased to announce that the canadian release is a little higher quality:

We got a nice slipcase as you can see here:

Also our set is 4 discs instead of those double-sided discs and the episode names are labelled on each respective dvd (they're also included on the back of the box set as well):

I'm actually pretty satisfied with this release, especially after seeing the US release.

Were any of the other seasons different? I don't remember any other season being that drastically different than the US one.

There are some small differences between the US/Canadian versions of season 8 & 9 but I'm going based on the packaging I've seen in stores... I bought the US versions for those two seasons (this is the first time the season sets were released around the same time, normally the US get its way earlier than us in Canada).

The reason for the quality difference is because Alliance has always released our DVD sets here in Canada so they keep the quality consistent; Funimation used to release them over in the USA but now Echo Bridge took over and they're pretty cheap with their releases (I'm just going based off the quality drop from my Canadian 7th season to American 8th season).

What is different on season 8 and 9? Like the packaging outside?

And what about 7? That is when the change took place.

I also just read that 8 had subtitles included and the US didn't I don't think..I like subtitles because sometimes you don't understand a character.

also, did any of them have a slipcover like season 10 does?

On season 8 the Canadian packaging is a little different but nothing worth mentioning; also the slim-packs it comes with are transparent instead of black like the US version (this is because one side has the french and the other has the english.) I can't confirm the subtitles for you since I have the US copy and I've only seen the Canadian packaging in stores. Also the Degrassi design on the side is made a little more consistent to match the earlier seasons.

On season 9 the only real difference (from what I can tell) is that the canadian version has a slipcover (once again I've seen that in our stores and I regret not waiting for our release!) I can't confirm if there is subtitles on this one either.

I've never seen the American version of season 7 but the Canadian one I have is exactly like seasons 3-6 with the clear slim-packs inside (also the covers for each slim-pack are reversible with the french episode summaries written on the opposite side and the DVD's contain the french audio as well.)

thanks for your reply! Seems like the only one worth while to really get is season 10 which is miles better than the US Version. The rest I can just deal with. (although I wouldn't mind the slipcover for season 9)

Another question I am curious about is season 9. It looks like it was re-released in January of this year as a box set like all other seasons instead of a movie style small case.

On Amazon.ca, I see this for Season 9:

    Studio: Platinum Disc
    Release Date: July 20 2010

    Studio: ALLIANCE (UNIVERSAL)
    Release Date: Jan 11 2011
    http://img.amazon.ca/images/I/911SltNomgL._AA1500_.jpg

Maybe it is just how the picture looks, but it seems like they re-released it in a box set.

That picture is misleading. It's actually a slim case with a slipcover like 10th season's. January 11th was the Canadian release date even though some stores purchased and released the American version early.

alright. So I already ordered the Canadian season 10 version because US sucks lol

I'll keep an eye out for a cheap Canadian season 9 one (just because I want the cover lol) but it isn't a big deal right now.

and all my other releases are fine

I'm going way back with this question but does anyone know why the season 2 and 4 dvd's contain a few alternate scenes from the original airing (The n at least) and both from the season premiere(s)
Ex: When Doves Cry has a different scene with Craig versus the The N version of Sean and Craig playing basketball.
And in season 4 in ghost in the machine the scene where simpson confronts Craig about Joey in the MI lab (where he takes his frito pie or whatever) is gone.

Were the Canadian releases any different?

Again this is going back a bit so I can't remember

Thanks to anyone who can answer.

The-N used special scenes for their broadcasts only. The DVD sets contain only the original episodes as aired in Canada. Anything added by the The-N was not included because that is not how the episodes were originally produced.
