My dvd set just came in and I'm pleased to announce that the canadian release is a little higher quality:
We got a nice slipcase as you can see here:

Also our set is 4 discs instead of those double-sided discs and the episode names are labelled on each respective dvd (they're also included on the back of the box set as well):

I'm actually pretty satisfied with this release, especially after seeing the US release.

There are some small differences between the US/Canadian versions of season 8 & 9 but I'm going based on the packaging I've seen in stores... I bought the US versions for those two seasons (this is the first time the season sets were released around the same time, normally the US get its way earlier than us in Canada).
The reason for the quality difference is because Alliance has always released our DVD sets here in Canada so they keep the quality consistent; Funimation used to release them over in the USA but now Echo Bridge took over and they're pretty cheap with their releases (I'm just going based off the quality drop from my Canadian 7th season to American 8th season).
What is different on season 8 and 9? Like the packaging outside?
And what about 7? That is when the change took place.
I also just read that 8 had subtitles included and the US didn't I don't think..I like subtitles because sometimes you don't understand a character.
also, did any of them have a slipcover like season 10 does?

On season 8 the Canadian packaging is a little different but nothing worth mentioning; also the slim-packs it comes with are transparent instead of black like the US version (this is because one side has the french and the other has the english.) I can't confirm the subtitles for you since I have the US copy and I've only seen the Canadian packaging in stores. Also the Degrassi design on the side is made a little more consistent to match the earlier seasons.
On season 9 the only real difference (from what I can tell) is that the canadian version has a slipcover (once again I've seen that in our stores and I regret not waiting for our release!) I can't confirm if there is subtitles on this one either.
I've never seen the American version of season 7 but the Canadian one I have is exactly like seasons 3-6 with the clear slim-packs inside (also the covers for each slim-pack are reversible with the french episode summaries written on the opposite side and the DVD's contain the french audio as well.)
That picture is misleading. It's actually a slim case with a slipcover like 10th season's. January 11th was the Canadian release date even though some stores purchased and released the American version early.
