Which episode or character death had more of an impact on you? Which episode do think was better?

Personally Time stands still had more of an impact on me because that episode had me tearing up.

    TSS by a MILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont care what anyone says, RTT episode was too short and didnt have the same impact as TSS. the only eventful/memorable part of the RTT epsiode was the last minute of the episode. I liked how JT went out, but not how the epsiode was set-up.

The shooting is definitely moar powahfull by over nine thousand miles.

Okay, now that the obligatory memes are taken care of, I should point out an important difference:

JT's death: Stupid school rivalry is stupid.

Rick's death: Rick's death actually, you could get inside Rick's head. He was the hero, until he became an hero. There's also the mirror set up. Rick was killed by Sean, who was said to be just like Rick way back in season 1. (We didn't really see Sean doing anything bad until season 3, and even then, it was at the "stupid kids" level.)

To me, it's apples & oranges.

TSS had the advantage of being a 2-parter; plus, there was really a long build-up to it, going back to when Rick & Terri were dating. You kind of had a feeling that something bad was going to happen...just not what. When it did, it wasn't much of a surprise. Lack of surprise lessens the impact for me. There WAS a certain level of "I can't believe I just saw that!" to it...another plus.

RTT was, as stated earlier, too short...and, really, kinda random. Less of a build-up, tho. TOTALLY caught me by surprise. I expected a lot more back-n-forth between Lakehurst & Degrassi before (pardon the pun) cutting to the chase. Also, you'd expect a periferal character like Rick not to survive something (a Lt. Redshirt); not a character that shows up in the opening credits every season from day one!!!

I'd be hard put to say which one is "better" or affected me more.

Id have to say TSS, because it was the most intense Degrassi ever got. the acting was kind of campy in retrospect, and the B plot was pointless and a timewaste, but Rick's character arc was perfect.

RTT is the most overrated episode of Degrassi ever imo. if you cut out the last 5 minutes, it's a filler episode. plus it only helped boost the ratings decline.

^ 1000000000000000000000% agree. RTT was such a filler episode besides the last minute..

I'm pretty sure it was just for shock value.

Time Stands Still was better because the whole build up.

but Rock This Town is still incredible. And it was not done at all for shock value...LOL. He was the most popular character on the show. Do you know that people stopped watching the show when he left? I still have friends who do not watch the show JUST BECAUSE J.T. left. And he was not leaving the show, the producers were the ones who told him he would be leaving. Some of you made it sound like Ryan Cooley wanted to leave the show, he didn't. So it was not last minute, it was not shock value, it was for the story they had planned for months in advance.

^ THE PRODUCERS NEVER TOLD HIM TO LEAVE????!!!!!! I dont know where you heard that, but he wanted to focus on school and him and the producers talked about it and they came to the agreement that killing him off would be a good idea. he knew in season 5 that he was going to die off on season 6.

^ That's what I heard too, no way he was kicked off. seen a video of his last day, seems like he was really close with everyone on the set, he seems so sweet. i think rick's was pretty well set up, and i always enjoy seeing how they do school shooting episodes, and i think degrassi did it pretty well.

I think it was well done and the lead up was great. it went for more than one season and the impacts of it are, well their remaining in every episode that jimmy stars in. the shooting itself was also well done, all brilliantly acted out and it was still shocking even if you knew it was coming, if that makes sense. i liked the sean/rick fight, and the way we weren't shown who was shot. i liked the sean storyline following afterwards, even though sean annoys the hell out of me in most of his stories.

however, jt's death hit me more emotionally because i loved his character. but i did think they could have had a bit more of the lakehurst war rather than the 2 or 3 episodes it did go for, it should have dragged on a bit longer, it seemed to escalate a little too quickly to be realistic. but it still made me cry and so did liberty's reaction.

There was already a huge debate about TTS Vs RTT Vs AFD two summers ago. Don't really feel like getting into it again.

I never meant the producers fired him or anything like that. But it was not done for shock value. That is the point I am trying to get across.

^ OK. but they were working around JT's schedule. he told them that he was leaving the season prior and they came up with that storyline to accomidate him leaving the show. I still cant beileve they didnt have him do commentary for him in RTT, and he could have done a commentary for "If you leave" just to talk more about him leaving and talk about how he felt about his "aftermath" episode.
