Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • The reporter seemed to know an awful lot about what already happened, and the relationships. She asked Craig, who found Jimmy, and then talked to Toby and knew he and Rick were friends. It seems unlikely that their friendship were public knowledge, especially since Ashley seemed to not even know.

    • Gun shots are fairly loud, so Sean, Emma and Toby would have heard the shot, as they were only about a hallway away.

    • In a real life situation Ms. Suave would never pull Hazel out of class to tell her about Jimmy. One, the shooting was not yet made public, Hazel just happened to find out because of a text Paige got. Secondly, she is just his high school girlfriend. She really has no authority to know, not while the lock down was still going on.

    • When Emma, Sean and Toby see Rick and are about to walk away, Sean grabs Emma's arm and the strap of her bag falls halfway down her arm. A few shots later, Emma's bag is back up on her shoulder.

    • In the episode Caitlin calls the reporter Rachel Rhodes, but she was credited as Rachel Roberts.

    • When Jimmy first gets shot, his hand falls to the side of him. In the close up, his arm is up by his face.

  • QUOTES (15)

    • Spinner: (referring to when the mustard and feathers were dumped on Rick) Did you see the guy's face? Definition of funny.

    • J.T.: So how's the big yellow loser?
      Toby: That's really nice J.T.
J.T.: I hope he gets the hint and leaves.

    • Spinner: He's my best friend!
Jay: Either outcome, I would say he was your best friend.
      Spinner: We could've killed him!

    • Toby: (watching Rick and Sean struggle over the gun) STOP!!!

    • Ashley: He shot Jimmy, Mom, I want an answer. Who was this guy who shot him, if not some psycho?
      Emma: He was Toby's friend.

    • Detective: Toby, do you know why he did this?
Toby: I'm supposed to know? Look the guy is a psycho, okay? He's a total psycho.
      Detective: Was he bullied, teased?
Toby: Always, every day, just constantly.
Detective: And what did your friend do when someone...
Toby: Look, he's not my friend, he's a psycho, and he's not my friend.

    • Sean: (speaking to Emma and Toby, sees Rick with a gun) He's got a gun, let's go.
Rick: DON'T TURN AWAY FROM ME!

    • Jimmy: If those guys give you any more problems, I got your back.
Rick: Y-you stabbed me in the back.
      Jimmy: What?
Rick: You set the whole thing up.
Jimmy: Rick come on, I defended you! (sees the gun) Is that real?
Rick: All the time you pretended to be my friend. (points the gun at Jimmy) You made me do this. (shoots Jimmy in the back)
Craig: (sees Jimmy on the ground) J-J-Jimmy.

    • Emma: (crying) He pointed the gun right at me.
      Spike: Oh Honey!

    • Ashley: How about full on psycho?! Certified freak? The guy made us a lead story on the 6:00 news.

    • Rick: I'm glad I found you, Emma. You made my list.

    • Sean:...We can work this out...come on...you don't have to do this...it's not too late...(reaches for gun)
Rick:...It is too late. (points the gun at Emma) I already shot someone.

    • Paige: (to Rick) Look I know we're not exactly best friends, but I wanted to say that I thought the whole paint and feathers job was sickening. It was really childish.

    • Joey: (to Caitlin) Ah, make yourself at home, while I still have one.

    • Jimmy: (to Spinner) Look, save the bully crap for someone who won't fight back. And you better do something about it now before I do.

  • NOTES (5)

    • Rachel Rhodes: The suspect, a 16 year-old boy, whose name cannot be released.

Rachel mentions that Rick's name cannot be released. In Canada, a suspect of any crime, under the age of 18, cannot have their name released, even if convicted of the crime, under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (2003). The law is very strict, stating that even if the person is over 18 when arrested, if under 18 at the time the crime was committed, their name will not be released.

    • Sarah Barrable-Tishauer (Liberty), Adamo Ruggiero (Marco), and Cassie Steele (Manny), do not appear in this episode.

    • Creator Linda Schuyler says that they were planning an episode on school shootings since 2001, but they kept putting it off because of the risk of kids saying "I saw it on TV."

    • The gun Rick uses is a Para-Ordnance. These guns are manufactured in Canada.

    • The-N rated this TV-PG V for violence.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Death at Degrassi

Rick is the second character ever in the Degrassi series to have been killed off. The first was Claude Tanner, who committed suicide in the boys' bathroom back in "Degrassi High". Oddly, they both had similar looks, both bullied, and had an interest in the series lead female, who did not return the feelings. Claude liked Caitlin, and Rick liked Emma.
