Denpa Shonen is a 1998 Japanese reality television show. Its premise is to take lesser known comedians from throughout Japan and place them into absurd and sometimes very unpleasant conditions. The show was so extreme that it was eventually banned from television. One of the better known scenarios involved placing contestants on a remote desert island, and forcing them to survive there and eventually escape back to Tokyo. Another involved having the contestants hitchhike from South Africa to Norway. One of the more controversial involved forcing a young comedian named Nasubi to live in an apartment naked for a year, only allowed to eat what he won from supermarket promotions. After it was removed from television, it moved onto the internet, where it can still be seen today. Any fan of absurd survival challenges, or anyone interested in the limits of human endurance, will find something to like about Denpa Shonen.
