Susan is miffed when Mike's unexpected - and very sexy - houseguest (guest-star Heather Stephens) Kendra forces him to postpone their first official "date." Susan and Edie decide to follow him and Kendra on their night out together. Lynette becomes steadily more dependent on the twins' ADD medication. Gabrielle becomes jealous of the "other" woman, Danielle Van De Kamp in John's life. Meanwhile, Bree's kids mutiny when they learn their dad has moved out. Tom is not happy when Lynette tries to take over his concept of new "Spotless Scrubs" to his clients. A man has a heartattack while jogging and lands on Mrs. Huber's (guest-star Christine Estabrook) lawn, but she dumps him on Bree's lawn so that she'll call the paramedics and they will ruin her lawn instead of hers. Andrew gets into a serious car accident that puts Mama Solis (guest-star Lupe Ontiveros) in the hospital, right after she finally bust Gabrielle and John having their affair in Carlos' house. Bree and Rex are also called to Andrew's school after he shoves a kid into a locker. Bree learns Rex is serving her with divorce papers. Lastly, the enigmatic Mr. Shaw (guest-star Richard Roundtree) comes closer to solving one of Wisteria Lane's big mysteries.

I love this episode. I don't care about the other housewives in this one so I'll tell you what happend with Susan and Edie. After Susan kisses Mike they've decided to date. Just as Susan brags about it to Edie she calls to Mike's front door only to find he has an unexpected sexy houseguest, Kendra. susan is embarrassed when she has to tell Edie the date was cancelled and Edie makes fun of her.

Edie is selling the Young's home and at a viewing of the house Susan turns up to take one last look at Mary-Alice's life. Mike and Kendra also show up to investigate Paul young. Edie overhears them talking when Mike mentions that they'll be visiting a bar where Dierdre was last seen. Edie then tells Susan they're going to a bar for drinks and dancing.

Edie convinces Susan to spy on them and reluctently Susan agrees to go to 'The Sadel-ranch Inn'. But after five minutes of spying, Susan tells Edie she's making a trip to the bathroom and then going home.

When Susan emerges from the bathroom she sees Edie riding the Mechanical Bull. Mike sees Susan who pretends she never knew he and Kendra were there. Mike dosen't belive her so to prove herself right she rides the Bull but get hit by it and gets brusied and passes out.

When Susan has woken she realises Edie, Mike and Kendra have got her ice for her wound and is greatful. But Kendra warns her not to get too close to Mike and ask him why he moved to Westeria Lane.......

"Competition, it means different things to different people. But whether it’s a friendly rivalry...or a fight to the death...the end result is the same. There will be winners...and there will be losers. Of course, the trick is to know which battles to fight. You see, no victory comes without a price."--Mary Alice

It seems that the neighborhood book club once a cherished event in the lives of the women of Wisteria Lane has disintegrated. The club has turned into Carmela Soprano's film club, a place of gossip. As Bree shoos the other neighbors beside Gabby, Susan and Lynette out, the "inner circle" continue to unravel the mystery that is Mary Alice. Susan reports to the wives that she has found out that Zach mentined the name "Dana" and that "Dana" may have the clues to Mary Alice's suicide. As they enjoy the gossip for the moment they all know that their own lives are in a flux as well.

Susan prepares for her official first date with Mike and though the plans have been set another woman intervenes. No, not Edie but Kendra, a friend from Mike's past. Susan believes the two were once a couple and that she has come back for good. That however is not the case, little by little Mike's storyline is coming more and more out. Mike is being assigned by Kendra's father to do a certain task, what the task is will be revealed in the coming episodes. The follwing evening, Edie overhears the two talking about going to a bar (where Kendra's sister was last seen at). Edie feeds Susan the information and the two go there in disguise. The two manage to hide but are soon uncovered by Mike when Susan makes up the hilarious story that she is there to ride the bull. Susan soon faints and is humiliated by the entire bar. Mike understands and forgives her as the three continue to get drunk. Kendra later recommends to Susan the she should ask Mike the reason on why he moved to Wisteria Lane. Uh-oh...

Bree's son Andrew continues to be a pain and gets in trouble at school. After stuffing a freshman in a locker, Bree and Rex are called in to school where they claim that Andrew's problems stem from him dealing with their impending divorce. The principal recommends detention but that Andrew will also be put on probation. At the family dinner the following night, Bree and Rex announce to the children that they plan to divorce. Andrew & Danielle take the news bad and side with Rex. Rex asks the two to cooperate and then showers them with gifts which include a new car for Andrew and support for Danielle to go to modeling school. Bree objects to the gifts and tells them that if they side with Rex they lose privledge to enter her home. Danielle gives up her modeling dreams and takes a new key from her mother. Andrew however jumps in his car and goes to see his father. Rex tells him to go home and be nice to his mother even though it may be difficult. Andrew becomes frustrated but understands that what must be done...will be done. Andrew decides he will not be "kissing his mother's ass" sober so he decides to get drunk with a friend.

Tom asks Lynette if she will throw a dinner party for co-workers who Tom wants to make a good impression on. At first, Lynette objects but as soon as Tom mentions how wonderful Bree Van De Kamp can throw a party, she quickly gets to work. To give herself a boost, Lynette continues to take the twins' ADD medication but soon runs out. She asks her friend Jordana if she can have a few of her pills but she does not comply. Lynette desperate arranges a play date with another child being treated for ADD. While in the bathroom, Lynette takes some pills and soon after leaves. At the dinner party, Tom proposes his ideas which the partners like but when Lynette intervenes they seem to enjoy her ideas more than his. After they leave, Tom questions Lynette's reasons and decides that she is not her usual self. A loud crash interrupts their discussion which Lynette takes in stride.

Paul Young visits P.I. Shaw who gives him the heads up that the suspect involved in Mary Alice's blackmailing could be anyone he knows possibly even a next door neighbor. When he meets with Edie Britt to sell his home, he discovers that Edie has similar stationary to the blackmail note Mary Alice receive. Paul comes to the conclusion that Edie blackmailed Mary Alice and that she needs to be stopped before it is too late. Shaw advises Paul to calm down and that he will take care of everything which includes disappearing Edie--for good. As Edie leaves Susan at the bar, she is approached by Shaw who invites her to share a drink with him.

Gabrielle continues to be hassled by her mother in law, Juanita Solis. When Gabrielle learns that John is dating Danielle Van De Kamp she completely objects and tries to stop their relationship by giving Danielle support to attend a modeling academy in New York City. John finds out and confronts Gabby who has no regrets. Later, she fakes an illness so that she won't have to go to a boring business dinner with Carlos and instead Mama goes in her place. As the two leave, Gabby seduces John and the two make love. Mama comes back a while later and catches the two in bed, snaps a photo and plans to give the evidence to Carlos. Gabby continues to lie in bed as John tries to stop her. John chases Mama down the stairs and tackles her. Mama quickly backs away and runs out into the street where she is instantly ran over by a very drunk Andrew Van De Kamp. Mama Solis is quickly ushered into an ambulance and taken away as the wives comfort Gabrielle who is in shock.

Other important events in "Anything You Can Do"...

*Everyone seems a little "desperate" this week. Bree doesn't want the children to be won over by Rex. Susan does not want Mike to see Kendra even though they are strictly plutonic. Lynette wants to maintain control even though she can't stop popping pills. And Gabby tries to keep it real since she is losing the battle--yet she hasn't exactly lost the war yet.

*One of the great things about this episode is he magnificence that is Shawn Pyfrom. A teriffic actor who makes you really hate Andrew Van De Kamp with a passion. Pyfrom's portrayal of Andrew is real and true to life. Is Andrew becoming the next A.J. Soprano?

*Should Susan have rode the bull? Absolutely. She is up against Edie, she needs all the points she can get except the fact that Mike likes her anyway so has actually won already.

*Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria were teriffic in this episode as each of them played their characters to perfection as their story lines secretly interweave.

Great writing and brilliant acting make "Anything You Can Do" a perfect example of why Desperate Housewives is the hottest show on television today. What will be unraveled next on Desperate Housewives? Well, I think we'll all have to tune in next Sunday to find out!

Anything you can do, I can do better. No you can't, yes I can. It's another fun filled trip down Wisteria Lane, where rivalries and battles both big and small reign supreme and while the competition theme may be getting old hat, it is so used to great effect in this episode.

Before I deal with that however, the first plot I really wanna look at is Paul's. Spending most of the previous six episodes hating him, some sympathy is drawn for the creepy Young patriarch as PI Shaw reveals whoever sent the note to Mary Alice has to be a resident. Unfortunately it's LB Edie who is up for blame and she may have a competitive streak similar to her predatory prowess, I seriously don't think for a second she's the type who's vindictive to hide behind a note. I also hope it's not her because whoever it really is will be getting killed off.

Now on the other hand someone I do believe is responsible for that pesky note is the awful Mrs Huber, who this week stoops to a newer low by putting a heart attack victim on Bree's lawn instead of taking responsibilty herself. So fingers crossed it's actually her and that creepy Paul and P.I. Shaw twig soon. Paul is also made likeable in this episode for finally expressing more grief about Mary Alice. Maybe he's not so bad after all. Well maybe.

On the competition front, let's start with Lynette, whose plot takes up the least screen attention. Well her dependency on ADD medication has reached shocking new heights when she steals pills from an eight year old. While Felicity Huffman is doing a terrific job in downplaying this addiction storyline, I still have trouble fully sympathising with her character's extreme measures. While she's made no bones of missing her former career (being better at it than her husband duly noted - did they work in the same company?). In the episode, she upstages Tom and gains his confidence in one fell swoop, it still doesn't justify her actions. She stole from a child who really needed the stuff and she's not doing the best job of hiding it either with Jordana cutting her off and Susan and Tom both suspicious of her.

Meanwhile the jig is finally up for Gabrielle and it couldn't have come a moment too soon as a camera wielding Mama Solis snaps her and John in bed together. Of course before being able to crack open the champagne, a drunken Andrew Van De Kamp mows her down. Dammit - what is it about Gabrielle? That woman's lucky streak is beginning to look really unnatural at this point.

Also in between Juanita getting hit by the car I found surprised by how Gabby handled getting caught. While John made a feeble attempt of stopping Mama Solis, all Gabrielle did was nonchantly begin to pack her things. A rare moment in which Eva Longoria got to surprise us, only for the opportunistic Gabrielle to re-emerge and swipe the photographic evidence. That woman's luck really is that unnatural.

Mama Solis' actions also bring the previously underused Andrew into the fray. While the character has hardly been exciting to watch, this episode really had me divided on him. Yes I think he's something of a prat and both Bree and Rex were wrong to hide the car when they should have encouraged Andrew to go to the police but the scene between Marcia Cross and Shawn Pyfrom in the kitchen was brilliantly done. Now you're wondering how long the Van De Kamp's can hide the truth from the authorities and the neighbourhood, how this will affect both Bree and Rex's seperate relationships with Andrew. Most of the ep, Bree was the enforcer while Rex bought him off, it'll be interesting to see if this shifts. Now that Andrew has a storyline worth watching, here's hoping Danielle will given something interesting as well as the love rival to Gabrielle fizzled too fast.

Keeping with rivalries, it's never been more hotter for holding onto Mike as Susan is forced to allign with LB Edie in order to scoop out the gossip on the mysterious Kendra. Pairing both frenemies like this is a delight with way too many choice moments between Teri Hatcher and Nicollette Sheridan (who's on fine form here), especially during the Saddle bar scenes. As for the mysterious Kendra, it does look like that her and Mike may have had a thing in the past but what we do know is she's linked to the reason he's really here in Wisteria Lane and that creepy guy Mike met in "Come In, Stranger" is her father. Her word of warning to Susan regarding Mike however quickly resets those alarm bells. Does he have a more sinister purpose for being here? I don't want Mike to be a baddie, but i'm not sure if I should rule it out though.

Finally on the Mary Alice front, the housewives finally twig that the note was sent by someone who knew MA's secret, as well as discovering the word Dana scribed on the blanket from last week.

Also in "Anything You Can Do"

Gabrielle:"I have a problem with you seeing other girls"

John:"I have a problem with you having a husband".

Mr Shaw's anti-freeze story was a bit naff but I take it he killed that one person he discussed with Paul.

Laugh out loud Susan moments obviously include her getting whacked in the face with the bull and basically anything to do with Edie. Such as ...

    Susan:"Hey Edie"

Edie:"Wow, get a load of you. You look so pretty I hardly recognise you".

    Couple of minutes later ...

    Edie:"How was your big date?"

    Susan:"We had to ... reschedule"

Edie:"Oh, because of the hot girl? With the suitcases? How devastating for you, FYI".

    Not forgetting ...

Edie (to Susan):"Oh my God. I just want to slap and shake you".

Edie's job is an estate agent. Loved the scene where she persuades Paul not to disclose Mary Alice's suicide. Was it me or was there a bit of a flirtation between them? He was definitely more friendlier to her compared to the other housewives.

Priceless Bree moment of the ep was having her arranging all of Andrew and Danielle's stuff into different piles on the front lawn. Even when kicking people out, she's considerate.

Both Andrew and Gabrielle's cars looked way too alike.

Was Rex expecting someone at his motel room? He seemed extremely desperate to get rid of Andrew during that scene.

Wonder if Kendra's sister is connected to the housewives in anyway or Mary Alice? And was there any real parallels between what happened in this episode and Madame Bovary, which the women (except Juanita) didn't read?

Anyone else think Danielle looks a little pale?

Fantastic - "Anything You Can Do" really is. The writing was excellent, acting from both the main and supporting actors was powerhouse quality. There was some raw emotion and fabulous slapstick moments in many scenes and the choice of Mary Alice not commenting during important scenes worked to the episode's advantage. Next ep cannot come soon enough.
