Here in Australia, About 600000, watched the Season 7 finale. But back in New Zealand (Which Season 8 starts next week), it was watched by 525000. The difference is that New Zealand has a population of 4 million people compared to 20 million in Australia. Is Desperate housewives still a "Big" show in your country?

I don't think so, no, not here in Portugal. People I hang around with don't really watch it, I think, and those that do don't commit to it, don't do it regularly. I watch every single episode several times, and my mom watches them once with me. My sister does as well. No one else in my family watches it, and very few of my friends do, and they'll argue that it's a nice, entertaining show, but not something they become invested in too much, that appeals to them.

On a more general level, I don't think the ratings are anything that admirable either. Back in early '06, when season 2 premiered in my country... well, I have never seen as much advertising for a TV show ever as I have for that season. Seriously, it was with every fricking commercial break. Ads on TV, in the street, magazines, everywhere, because the show had been such a critical and commercial phenomenom during the first season, all around the world. But after season 2, all the buzz subsided. Starting with season 4, the show even moved to FOX Life, a women-targeted FOX branch (till then, it was on actual FOX).

It's not hugely popular here in the US anymore either. In its first season, DH's first season finale garnered over 22 million viewers (which is HUGE) but we'll be lucky to see 10 for the series finale now. TV has changed a lot over the past half decade and it shows in the ratings.

Yeah, I think DH is still relatively big here in Sweden, along with Grey's. I don't have any actual numbers, but a few years ago we scored around 400.000 every week (around 3 million is the most viewers Swedish TV have ever had) so it's fear to say it's alot. Also in the beginning of every season, there are big posters around town.

Oh wow, I stand corrected. Still, just kind of furthers my point that the show's popularity has, sadly, faded.

The show has been nunmber 1 in Ireland since season 1. The 4th season premiere was viewed by 640,000 viewers which, as far a I know, was the highest amount of viewers the show has ever gotten here. Then the show usually grabs between 380,000 to 450,000 viewers each episode.

Sadly, just like with the American ratings, the ratings here have dropped a lot in season 8. 8x01 was viewed by 344,000 viewers the lowest since season 5. Its a large drop from the 478,000 that watched 7x23 and an even larger drop from the 525,000 that watched 7x01. However, the show is still one of the top rated shows on the RTE Player where you can watch the episode online for 7 days after the broadcast.

But the show is still the number 1 most watched show of the week on RTE2. Hopefully the ratings will rise here as we lead up to the finale. And its great to still see the show doing so well in other countries.

If you go to wikipedia to seasons 6 and 7 you can see the Irish ratings down in the ratings section.

In the UK when DH first premiered its first 2 seasons where HUGE and it was one of the most popular shows on TV, however after season 3 the showdefinitelylost its buzz a little, only a few people I know now watch the show religiously as I do.
