This was another great installment of desperate housewives which continued its very uniquie blend of humor mystery sex and murder, this episode also did a great job of keeping the characters intresting fresh and fun and i have to say the actress who portray the four leading ladies are simply brilliant, im am really enjoying this new season and i am aware that it is still early days but after two extremly well written episodes i think housewives is gonna be a pretty big hit

  • Whoa! The best writting ever! It was wonderful, very single sentence in this episode is perfect. "Are we happy?" The details of the desperation.

So, the camera did a really great job too! THe way the episode was filmes really did a lot for the whole funny moments.

Lynette storyline was great, they transmit a lot! They are the best couple in the show. Xd When Lynette said some sentences you are laughing so much. I love the "Son of a - it was... " Xd Hilarious. When she said "Are we happy?" it was such a touching moment.

Susan storyline was original aswell and Teri acting when she was nude was great! It was one of the best moments in the show. The scenes with Mike were really credible! They did it great.

Gabi story was a little less interesting but it had really funny times aswell. The scene when Carlos scared Gabi talking about Bree was really exciting.

Bree was great here too! Her personality "all perfect" is really anoying and that is why she is really an interesting character.

So, this episode is really funny, perfect written and had some really touching moments so I think we can put a ten in here.

Before Mary-Alice died she had planned a dinner party for the housewives and their husbands to attend. Even though she has passed on the girls decide to go ahead with the dinner party as a tribute to Mary-Alice.

Bree, who is hosting the pary, is worried Rex will blurt out that she and him have been seeing a marrige conslour so she says if anyone asks why he leaves work three times a week he should tell them he and Bree are taking tennis lessons.

Susan notices that she will be the only one going to the dinner party without a date. She decides to ask Mike and feels she has some issues to resolve with Karl, who comes to her house and insults her. Susan, who is wearing just a towel, runs out of her house screaming at him. She slams his car door but the towel gets stuck in the door and Karl drives off with it. Susan is discovered hiding naked in her shrubs by Mike who helps her get back into her house and tells her he\'d love to go to the dinner party.

Lynette\'s husband Tom seems unhappy about going to the dinner party because he\'s just come back from a long business trip. He says he\'d love her to stay at home with him and just relax. Lynette finds out he was really at a party instead of a business trip and that he can stay home and mind the kids while she goes to the party.

and when Gabrielle invites John over she gets caught kissing him by a little girl called ashley who blackmails her into buying her a bike and teaching her how to ride it.

At the dinner pary Rex blurts out that he and Bree are in marraige conseling. In revenge, Bree tell one of Rex\'s embarrising secrets to everyone. Rex is so annoyed he moves out the next day. It seems these two might never get along again...
  • Again another great installment

The women are in "mourning" as the narrator is buried

Mary still will narrate the show but from heaven as

Well as from the viewers point of view. Very funny but

Also this is what bored housewives do it seems when their

Husbands and boyfriends are away. Again it is no one

Hit wonder at all as it is really a great show!
  • Not As Enjoyable As The Others.

This episode I thought was good in the respect that you are getting closer to finding out about the suicide of Mary Ann. When Brie goes to the Doctor's office at the end of the episode, she looks for a tape of Rex's conversation with the doctor so she can try and fix her marriage. Instead she sees Mary Ann's tape there and she steals it. Other than that not much actually happened.

    "Rex cries after he ejaculates"--Bree

When people die for some reason or for another they truly leave behind unfinished duties especially if you are young/middle aged adults who tend to have more responsibilities at the time of their deaths whereas retired senior citizens nevertheless everyone leaves behind work they left behind. In the case of Mary Alice Young, although she one afternoon pulled out a revolver and shot herself knowing she was going to be gone forever, one morning while reading the newspaper Susan Mayer reads the date and notices on her calendar a specific marked event. Planned months before and much talk trigerred this event since it had been something Mary Alice was excitied for a long time: a neighborhood dinner party.

Susan then refreshes Lynette's memory about the upcoming event and over coffee, the four remaining housewives decide to keep the date open and that the party will go as planned where Mary Alice will be honored. Bree decides to hold the event since she needs activity since the group therapy is not going well as planned. At therapy, Rex admits to Bree he would be more comfortable if they both had their own sessions with Dr. Goldfine which Bree objects to until Rex gets his way via persuasion by the doctor.

Bree then creates the hilarious alibi to the neighbors that she and Rex are practicing tennis at the local country club so their cover isn't blown completely away.

Meanwhile, Gabrielle Solis is continuing to suffer her own share of problems. Her affair with John Rowland is growing increasingly secretive but alas Gabby has a spy watching her every move from the doorway. The spy turns out to be a 10 year old girl named Ashley who had just moved in on the block though shy is confident enough to talk to Carlos Solis who asks her questions which she refuses to answer. When Gabby decides that blackmail is the best option involved, she brings Ashley a beautiful doll which she accepts but later demands a 10 speed bike in lieu of ratting to Carlos. When Gabby purchases the 10 speed it seems that Ashley does not know how to ride and makes Gabby teach her. And now all over America (and the world) know that it is never good to teach someone how to ride a bike with heels as Gabby is hilariously running after Ashley as she rides.

As Gabby is busy blackmailing her spy, Susan Mayer is faced with her own demons as her husband Karl comes for a visit to pick up Julie and brings along his girlfriend Brandy, a hot but bratty young woman who litters on Susan's property and when Susan confronts her, Karl dares her to pick up the can which was littered. Susan in anger kicks the can which unexpectedly goes in Mike's direction. Mike asks if he could pick it up which was not Susan's intent. Later, Susan who is in a bathrobe argues with Karl once again where after her bathrobe is disrobed and Susan is naked on her porch. Susan gets no such luck when she is both naked and locked out of her house. Lucky yet humiliated she gets help from Mike who jimmys the window and saves the day.

Later on at the dinner party, much wine is drunk and conversations progress as the group enjoy each others company until Carlos asks Rex if he is enjoying his tennis lessons. Knowing that Bree used this colorful excuse as their alibi, Rex tells everyone at the party straight that he and Bree are in marriage counseling which causes Bree to drop a bowl in horror. As all the wives and their lovers are about to eat the scrumptious meal Bree has prepared, they each tell Bree it is alright to be embarassed, to be outed of a secret you're lying about it. For instance, Gabby and Carlos broke a bed at a resort and that Lynette and Tom got thrown out of Disney World for bad behavior. Finally coming to Susan who admits to everyone that she hours prior was locked out of her home, naked and that Mike helped her regain entrance. The response is nothing Susan expected since she expected humiliation but learns everyone gets embarrassed sometimes.

Bree then breaks the ice with an uncalled for but hilarious phrase "Rex cries after he ejaculates". I must have cracked up there and laughed for about five minutes. Bree, shame on you! And seconds later feeling ashamed, Rex gets his keys and leaves. It seems the ladies of Wisteria Lane learned their lessons on how to throw a dinner party from the Fishers since we all know how dysfuctional the Fisher family are on "Six Feet Under" especially at a party. Either someone gets high, kills a bird or just feels awkward.

After the fiasco is over: Gabby, Mike, Susan, Lynette and Carlos all leave to their homes leaving Bree with the mess to clean up. While getting ready for bed at the Solis home, Carlos and Gabby analyze the evening and how if Bree was Carlos' wife he would have never stood for such a remark. Gabby then worries about herself if her little secret ever could get out. Lynette returns home to find Tom peacefully on the sofa after having to deal with the little nightmares for the entire evening. He thanks her for giving them sugar only adding to the frustration and Lynette delivers her feelings on the relationship.

The next day after talking with Tom, Lynette comes home to find Tom in a straw hat reminscent to the picture of Tom and his buddies at the beginning of the episode. Tom asks her dance before the children finish their video. When they start to dance, the boys catch them and watch quietly which leads to a happy moment for the family.

And finally, Bree helps pack up Rex's things where she asks him where their relationship went. How things used to be so good but now have literally been flushed down the toilet. Rex tries to understand but leaves anyway after all his things are packed. Bree later shows up unannounced to Dr. Goldfine's office where she asks of Rex's feelings in his private sessions. Dr. Goldfine then tells Bree that doctor/patient confidieniality is important and can never be revealed without the patient's consent. Bree though hurt understands and asks if she can talk with Dr. Goldfine. The doctor explains he has another appointment but Bree insists it will only be a few minutes. While Dr. Goldfine assists to his patient, Bree finds tapes from all of his sessions but comes across a particular tape of interest: Young, M.A. In anticipation, Bree leaves in a huff and goes home to play the tape in hope it will reveal something related to her sudden death.

Other important events in "Pretty Little Picture"...

*No Mrs. Huber or Edie this week. Not missed but nevertheless remembered even though they are my least favorite characters.

*In this episode we learn what it is in the toy chest that Paul threw. As Zach is watching the news it is revealed that human remains were found that washed up along the lake.

*Don't you think it is pretty fishy not to even have an obituary notice in the paper? It seems so surreal to me but I think it has something to do with that note. Someone really hated Mary Alice and this person is indeed an enemy.

*Zach is becoming increasingly odd to me and he should go for help before he becomes even more stranger. Honestly, pulling a gun on your father and then confronting him loud and violently pretending everything is alright when Bree arrives at the door. Odd.

*If the show had been on HBO there would have probably been more to Susan's little nudity scene yet it was really kind of perfect since it was extremely humorous if you think about it.

"Pretty Little Picture" is one of those episodes that does not come along very often. It shows us that everyone has things they don't want people to know about which only leads to the suspense of the next episode. Kudos to Oliver Goldstick and Arlene Sanford for giving us a very satisfying hour.
  • Imperfection Duly Noted Written by Oliver Goldstick Directed by Arlene Sanford

    "Superb"

Third episode in and this series is really getting to be on fire. After a brilliant pilot and an interesting last ep, things are really beginning to heat up. Whether this is a crafty attempt from Cherry to prove the series is more than a light-hearted piece of fluff, doesn't really matter because this aptly titled piece is just ...

Dealing with the Young family first, creepy Paul acts more and more weirder than usual regarding his wife's suicide. Not only does fail to put an obituary for Mary Alice but later we have Zach finding the revolver as well as news surfacing about the mysterious toy chest. I did expect that chest to contain human remains but I wonder whose they are and if they are involved in any way with Mary Alice's dark secret? Paul's general attitude regarding his wife is worrying. Whenever she's mentioned, he's eager to change the subject or speak ill of her. Maybe he knew about her secret, maybe he was involved. And then there's him putting a for sale sign up on the house and possibly drugging Zach.

There's also some stellar scenes between Paul and Zach, who is really not as strange as his father. It seems that Zach may also know more than he's leading on and there's a great moment demonstrating his grief for his late mother when Bree invites him and Paul over for a dinner in Mary Alice's honour. More on that later. But first the main subplots.

First up, Gabrielle's which has so far taken a backseat with me is actually highlighted this week when her and John are caught by nine year old neighbour, Ashley who takes to blackmailing the unfaithful Sollis. Proving the under 10's are a smart bunch (then again would you fall for the piss poor excuse Gabby tries to give the child?), there's a hilarious training session with Ashley being trained how to ride her brand new bike. However while she may have kept the child quiet, the pressure is most certainly on for Gabrielle when Carlos casually mentions (in a rather scary way) how he would deal with being humiliated by his wife. Speaking of Carlos, what the hell does he actually do because now he is starting to look suspicious?

Following last week's escapades, it's nice to see when Susan's not fawning over Mike (who acts pretty normal here), she's squabbling with her annoying ex-husband and his child like girlfriend and keeping with the writer's obvious love for having Teri Hatcher's alter ego make a fool out of herself, this time after a lame attempt of getting an apology from Karl, she ends up locking herself out of her house naked. Still, it's not all bad as she finally gets Mike to notice her (well being naked in a bush would do that) and even Blandi redeems herself by apologising to Susan. Sadly we don't get enough of the wonderful Julie though.

As we're on the subject of kids, you just gotta love Lynette who gets her unruly brood to act up while Tom takes to babysitting them. I actually quite like Tom. Okay, so he says one or two things that may be unfair to Lynette but out of the husbands, he's the best of the bunch. He does actually listen to his wife (unlike Carlos) or blame her for everything (unlike Rex) and still manages to mind his kids without going nuts and prepares a romantic session for Lynette. Interestingly, despite not being around much, he's also the only one who really sees the gap between Bree and Rex. In other words, he's a decent guy.

Which leads to the crux of this episode. No matter how much Bree tries to convince the outside world her life is perfect. You just knew it was gonna come crumbling down and naturally, Rex is the one to shatter the illusion by announcing their marriage woes during a dinner the girls have in Mary Alice's honour and the girls attempts of regaling their own embarrassing stories does little to quell Bree's fury whose retalliation puts the nail in the coffin between her and Rex.

With some truly classic scenes between Marcia Cross and Steven Culp as their marriage disintergrates, things are made even more complicated when Bree finds an audio tape of Mary Alice's in Dr Goldfine's office, but this seems more likely to raise more questions than actually answer any we all have at the moment.

    Also in "Pretty Little Picture"

Susan:"How could we have all forgotten about this?"

Lynette:"We didn't exactly forget, it's just usually when the hostess dies that party is off".

Mary Alice's party was actually scheduled for October 16th 2004 - a day before ABC aired this episode.

Rex:"So these tennis lessons we're taking, how are we doing?"

Bree:"My backhand is improving immensely but you're still having problems with your serve".

No Edie or Mrs Huber in this episode. Not that either was really missed.

I should have said this before, but now i'm really beginning to wonder who wrote that note to Mary Alice and whether or not the dark secret had anything to do with remains in the toy chest?

Karl:"The hearts wants what it wants"

Susan:"Well my heart wants to hurt you but I can control myself".

Loved Bree's attempts of finding out what Rex was saying in Dr Goldfine's private sessions. So is Rex involved in adultery, prostitution or internet pornography?

Comfortably embarrassing stories included Lynette and Tom being kicked out of Disneyland for lewd behaviour, Gabrielle and Carlos breaking a water bed in Cancoon, Susan's nudity spell and apparantly Rex cries after he ejaculates. So didn't want to know that one.

On the newspaper front we have Lynette - business section, Gabrielle - fall collection, Bree - decorating ideas and Susan - front page. But I think she probably reads the funnies more.

I really loved this episode, more than I was expecting too as well. Okay so while more mysteries are being thrown our way, this was a really rewarding instalment nonethelesss and the show's first real intense one. Danny Elfman's score which so far has been average picks up pace and gets disturbingly eerie in two very appropiate scenes. Even the flashbacks this time looked a bit more flashbacky than they did in the first episode (it's also nice to actually see Brenda Strong in the show than just having her narrate it). And while we may finally getting that the idyllic suburban life is not all it's cracked up to be, "Pretty Little Picture" is still a cracking instalment and affirms the show's sweet addictiveness despite it's soap opera format.
