  • Desperate Housewives is great but what is with the god-awful opening credits and theme tune. I think something needs a revamp. Fast.

Desperate Housewives is fast becoming the new friends. It has an excellent cast, the characters are to die for an the plot is scorching - if not a little confusing. By the way, Zach used to be Dana, i get it, (sorry spoilers), but please contact me if you to think that Dana is a GIRL'S NAME. It is not a boy's name as far as i know, i thought at first he'd had a sex change as a baby or someting. My God. I think that by far the best and most entertaining family on Wisteria Lane are the Scavos. Lynette and Tom are hilarious and seem to live in a world of their own. I'm also fond of Gabrielle, i don't think Jon the Gardener is cute, Carlos is soooo funny, Susan needs to stop crying and Bree needs a good slap. Also, please let the whole "Rex is dead" thing be a hoax because he was quite funny. Let Paul take his place.
  • Suburbia, never had a true definition until Desperate Housewives. A sex in the suburbs type show where a neighborhood of woman must face mystery, murder, adultery, and so much more together.

    "Great"
Risque and pushing the envelope, Desperate Housewives is publicly frowned upon, but every Sunday night at 9:00 the majority of the American population sits down on their couches and stares wide eyed at the screen as five beautiful woman tell the story of their lives. Bree causes laughter from the audience because of her anal retentive ways. LaNette is the woman that women relate to, taking care of the children while being underappreciated by her husband. Gabrielle is the ornery one who has an affair with the lawn boy and tries to outwit her criminal husband. Susan is the dreamer, only wanting a romantic relationship, but has the worst luck at finding men and instead finds trouble. Edie is the real estate agent who wants Susan's men. She stops at nothing and the constant feud between Susan and Edie causes conflict the reader enjoys.
  • I am in Desperate Housewives withdrawl.

With the summer upon us, I am in total withdraw without any new episodes of my all time favorite show, Desperate Housewives. The season finale left us with so many cliffhangers and also many answered questions. I have recommended this show to many of my friends and they all love it also. I see many awards in the future.
  • This new show filled a hole in our hearts after the loss of three American greats, Sex and the City; Friends; and of course Frasier. Each episode of this gripping drama, brings an inspiring window looking into the wonderful world of "Wysteria Lane".

When I first heard if this show, I was not too sure whether it would be a hit, or yet another miss - destined to join the pile of rejects growing each year -(I remind myself of the excitement that I expected when first hearing of NBC's Father Of The Pride - but both NBC and myself quickly dropped that one).

I watched the first episode with trepidation, would I be glued for the next twenty-something weeks, spending Wednesday nights preparing for an upcoming 60 minutes of entertainment, or would I be left looking for a gym partner to fill up empty Wednesdays? It was of course the first. This show became "water-cooler" material, it was always discussed the next day through out colleges, and work places alike what this show had brought the previous evening.

Despite an excellent season, that ventured slightly off course in places, the season finale brought nothing but disappointed. Yes, the acting was good (remind yourself Eddie on Mike's porch "stick it up my... what?" as Susan tried to tell of her current ordeal), and to an extent the writing was good, but the episode lacked substance, it told us nothing more than what we had already induced for ourselves, and failed to tell us why Mary-Alice really did kill herself, we could guess, sure, but sometimes its nice to have these things spelt out - everything else was.
  • Oh My God ! When I frist whatched this show, I thought it was just some kind of regular soap opera, just as many other ones. But, right from the first episode, I realized I was wrong !

Oh My God ! When I frist whatched this show, I thought it was just some kind of regular soap opera, just as many other ones. But, right from the first episode, I realized I was wrong ! It's original, with good characters, a good story, god plots, a good writting and msot of all a lot of suspens ! And, it turned out that after seing the pilot, I couldn't wait to see more ! And it was the same every week as the show ended, I was like : "Oh Mu God, I can't beleivev this ! This is huge, what's gonna happen next ??" Like that all the way through the Season Finale, where a long summer break is ahead of me. Too much waiting !

Seriously, I can easily say that it's one of my all time favortie show ! To me, Desperate Housewives has got everything you can hope for in a good TV series. It's a drama that is funny on a typical american housewife background. I love the way America is portrayed in this show,; with the big catch phrase which, I think, capture very well all the atmosphere of the story : "Everyone Has A Little Dirty Laundry..."

I can't get enough of this show. I'm really looking forward next season! A Must-Watch !
  • Playing catch-up with Desperate Housewives: How this new show stacks up after fifteen episodes.

    "Great"
When ABC started showing ads for Desperate Housewives, I groaned. "Oh great. Another sure-fire miss. They cancel Clerks but let's see if Teri Hatcher can get any lower than pimping for Radio Shack.

After buring through fifteen episodes, I have eaten my words and asked for seconds.

The big new show of the year for me was "Lost". Even though I saw the vast amounts of praise Desperate Housewives was receiving, I felt that I had missed far too many episodes to jump in. So I let it slide away. Now that we've hit a lull in summer programming, I decided to see what all the fuss was about. It turns out the fuss was about the most darkly comic, emotionally moving, guilty-pleasure-sans-the-guilt show in quite some time.

The show's ever-increasing cast is overflowing with talent but I'll just focus on the four main ladies of Wisteria Lane and try to do so as succinctly as possible:

    - Teri Hatcher will get nominated for Best Actress in a Drama at the Emmys. While the show is technically an ensemble, she definitely holds the "main" storyline when it comes to the foursome. And no character in quite some time has elicited as many sympathetic "Awwww"s from me as Susan Meyer.

    - Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman should expect nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama. Huffman's dry wit and contender-attitude in playing Lynette is not only funny, but necessary. It would be pretty pathetic to see this woman get devoured by her children week after week, but Huffman rides the highs and lows of her character as if she had played the role all her life.

But the real standout to me is Cross. Cross plays a character I should hate. Bree Van De Camp is a gun-toting, WASPy Republican whose moral attitudes I should find revolting...and yet I can't turn away. If ever anyone in the history of television perfected the art of the matter-of-fact delivery, it's Cross. While characters like Susan and Lynette may provide the comic and characters like Paul and Zack provide the darkness, Bree has it at all and is responsible for a large part of the season's brilliant one-liners.

If there is one flaw in the show, it's that it's soap-opera nature lends itself to truly push the suspension of disbelief. The problem doesn't even lie in the logisitics as much as it lies in the constant drama and sometimes frighteningly quick resolutions. I think everyone in the cast has broken the law at least once by now and to leap from Lynette's drug-addiction to Andrew's lack of conscious to the frustrating switches of desire between Rex and Bree, it's all a bit much and the show would do well to just ease off the overdrive a bit and just soak in the plotlines it's already created. Do we need a plotline of Andrew being gay? Do we need a plotline of Tom having an affair?

But for the most part, the show is a gift. It's daring, it's funny, it's touching, and for the most part shows that the term "soap opera" doesn't have to be a dirty description.
  • Desperate for more Desperate..

I have to admit, Desperate Housewives is my personal favorite on TV today. This show is definitely amazing and the girls are incredible. The storylines are beautifully written and the cliffhangers are well deserved.

I am totally hooked on this show that I cant seem to get enough. Edie is my personal favorite and I hope that she gets a life sometime..LOL!

Cant wait for the next season!

  • This Drama/Soap series takes place in a Suburbian location called Wisteria Lane. It sees mainly four housewives going bout their daily lives with helarious results.

    "Perfect"
This show is like one of the best shows ever to be on TV. It has loads of different characters to love and hate. I love this show because it deals with real life situations but throws some comedy in. There is always some wacky situation going down on Wisteria Lane.
  • Best TV show of 2005.

    "Perfect"
In 2004, who knew that when one tale of 4 brilliant women (Sex and the City) ended, we would not be left long without another one telling the stories of Gabriel Solis, the rich, lonely wife who is having an affair with the gardener. Brie Van Der Kamp, the conservative who hides pain through cleaning. Susan Myer, the single, clumsy mother who's love life is ruled by her teenage daughter, and Lynette Skavo, probably the most fitting in the show, seeing as she is a housewife with 4 kids under 7.

The way the characters interact with each othe and how everyone's secret is linked in someway, and also how we are drip fed story plots making it a must see show. Every week, I make sure I watch down to watch what will happen next.

You will be truly shocke by the secrets, and engrossed in the relationship problems and the fact that it is topped with a light layer of comedy makes it better.

This may be my fave show of all time, but then there is stiff competition. Anyway, if you are in the mood for very interstin plots and chracters, Desperate Housewives is the only choice.
  • Okay, I continued to tell my frined that I don't don't watch crap like Desperate Housewives, then I started to see the end because of Grey's Anatomy, and I became transfixed. Now I can't stop watching it.

    8.2
    "Great"
At first I thought this show was horrible, mostly because it took the slot of my favorite ( and the best) show, Alias. But, after I watched it a few times, I couldn't stop. The acting isn't amazing, but the writing is good. I enjoyed the little twists, and the suspense is pretty good. So I applaud you, Mark Cherry, Because you and your team hooked a very stubborn fan.
  • It is a big influence for women that have done or want to attempt some of the things on the show.

    "Perfect"
the show is very dramatic and it is perfect for anyone who is int to drama . The episodes are so thrilling , and if i miss one its as if you have missed half the season. Each of the ladies has their own specific story to tell and a they each have a different kind of love life . Every women in a relation ship can relate to atleast one of the women .
  • My name is not Mary Alice Young. My name is merely not mentioned.

    8.8
    "Great"
In the magazines, you see all these highlights on Marcia, Teri, Eva and Felicity. What about Brenda Strong? Isn't she the reason the show's so successful? After all, if it wasn't for Murderess Mary Angela (my nickname for her) and her big secret, then there wouldn't be a show. Well, there would but it wouldn't be as successful.

The four main ladies aren't the only ones on a journey. Mary Angela is too, a journey of death. And while the girls are trying to find out what she was hiding from them, Mary Angela is finding out what the girls were finding from her.

Of course, it's no surprise that Mary Angela killed herself. Wouldn't you if the men in your family were psychos? Never mind her murdering of Deidre and being sold Zach/Dana/Freak.

But one thing - I wouldn't have been able to hold that secret under my chest for 14 years. I'm surprised it took so long for Felicia "I'm Gonna Make You Some Pudding" Tilman to find her.

Now just what other secrets may the Youngs be hiding. I'm sure we'll be finding out soon enough.
  • A rapidly deteriorating show about four suburban friends trying to find out why their seemingly perfect friend killed herself.

    6.1
    "Fair"
Desperate Housewives's pilot was funny, sad, intriguing, and very promising. But as the show went on, the show began to drop in quality. The season-long mystery moved extremely slow. The comedy became less funny and less natural. The characters became annoying: Susan went from fun and ditzy to just stupid. Lynette went from sarcastic and relatable to whiny and bitchy. Gabby went from entertainingly spoiled to irritatingly spoiled. Bree is the only one who improved-- she's a fascinating character played by a great actress. The quality of the writing may have remained as high as it was in the pilot, but it's safe to assume that the success just went to writers' heads.
  • It's America's HIT SHOW for sure!

  • Desperete housewives is really a great show. Some guys might not watch it because of the "housewives" title but once you get into it you really get hooked.

On wisteria lane (where the show takes place) there have been a lot of exciting mysteries. There have been murder, blackmail, cheating, drug use, and much much more. The show is about a group of women who had a friend that shot herself. The women find clues about her suicide and try to solve the mystery surrounding it. The show isn't all about the suicide. Each housewife had a batch of secrets. The narrater is the voicec of the lady that shot herself. The best part of the show is the last few seconds of it when a new secret is revealed. Those seconds have your heart pounding like none other. Overall the show is great and even guys will get hooked on "Desperete Housewives".
  • I am ashamed to admit...

    8.5
    "Great"
I am ashamed to admit how much I like this show. I had to get my wife hooked on it too in order to not feel so guilty watching it. Now it is near the top of our TiVo Season Pass list.

The strange part is that, on paper, it is everything I usually hate in a show. However, on the screen, it works. I think much of that can be credited to the cast. All of the leads are great in their roles (although Marcia Cross steals the show in my opinion).

I am curious to see how they keep it going next year now that the first season's big questions have been mostly answered.
  • Give me back my Sunday night.

    "Good"
Desperate Housewives is basically a slickly produced soap opera. It somehow manages to drag out ridiculous plotlines while mixing in completely off-the-rocker character development, all in the guise of a quirky mystery/comedy. Keep pluckin' away at those mysterious-sounding cello strings, makin' us all wonder what all crazy business is going down in that seemingly-well-to-do suburb!

In a way, I really, really want to hate this show. I feel like it just baits me on all the time, promising big happenings and underdelivering in such a way that I want to keep giving it second chances. At the same time, I've seen almost every episode of it, and think I understand why it's so popular. Also, I happen to think that Desperate Housewives, along with CSI, is one of the main reasons why there's currently a backlash against reality television--a backlash I wholeheartedly endorse, so I do appreciate what Desperate Housewives has accomplished, above and beyond the content of the show.

One of the big problems I have with Desperate Housewives is that, unlike in Sex and the City (an obvious influence), the main characters' friendship here seems completely implausible--downright impossible. They're these utterly different characters, and yeah, that helps make the show entertaining...but these women seem like they shouldn't have anything to do with each other, much less be neighbors and neighborly.

But whatever. You can pick practically any show apart like this. Desperate Housewives, for better or worse, provokes a lot of discussion. It combines a lot of different elements in an entertaining way, and you can get as much out of it as you're willing to invest into it...so it's either a serious TV addiction or a vapid night's viewing. I guess it's impressive that the show can seem to do both things equally as well.
  • There's something hypnotizing about this show.

    8.7
    "Great"
Despite the hype and the constant stories I still think this show is an absolute joy to watch. There's something freshly hypnotizing about it. You know its pedigree is in line with previous primetime soap operas, but this time around it’s not all about rich powerful families. It’s different when you’re sympathizing with these characters, as goofy and uniformly gorgeous as the are.
