This was an absolutly incredible episode of desperate housewives that really recaptured the magic of the first season. Gaby and lynettes shared storyline this week was fantastic and a really nice bonding moment between theses chracters.

Susans storyline was also great this week with teri hatcher delivering some great comedy, as always.

However for me the best thing about this episode was the bree and katherine rivalry which was just so fantastic and brilliantly written,Dana delany who plays katherine is absolutly perfect and the writers are handeling her chracter very well.

To conclude this was one of the best episodes of Housewives ever and if the rest of season 4 is this good then we are definitly in for a treat.

After realizing Tom has been letting her win at cards, Lynette kicks him out of her chemotherapy sessions. Katherine suggests a lunch for Lynette to which Bree insists on bringing dessert - her very own lemon meringue pie. Katherine replaces the pie with her own and Bree becomes determined to get the recipe. Julie desperately wants to go to a party but when Mike advises against it Susan forbids Julie from going. I loved the whole Katherine and Bree storyline. Susan is pretty hot for someone who is pregnant. =] I loved the scene at the end about smiles. Great episode.

This is a great episode! I was amazed when Gabrielle opened her heart to Lynnette by telling her that sad story of her father. And when Lynnette kicked out her husband from her hospital room! LOL! Edie is so evil! She is using poor Carlos... :( I loved the first scene where Carlos was running to get to home before Edie so she doesn't notice he wasn't at home... lol. And the fights between Bree and Katharine are the best of the best!!! I think it was hilarious when Katharine used her scissors to cut a part of Bree's dress. "Now you're perfect!" Lol! The end, when Bree snooped in Katharine's house was great! She didn't find the secret ingredient but she did find a part of a family secret! It's getting more and more mysterious! I love it!
  • Katherine and Bree clash over pie, Gabrielle struggles to deal with Lynette's chemotherapy, Susan and Julie struggle to adapt to Mike's new role as stepdad and Edie gets her claws into Carlos

Another great episode of DH that managed to capture both the mystery and ridiculous elements of the first season. Each housewife had her own (interesting) storyline and there were some nice moments of housewife interaction

    The Good:

I really enjoyed Susan/Mike/ Julie's storyline. I like that they addressed that this transition would be hard on all of them. Plus I really liked the outcome

Bree and Katherine's baking wars- ridiculous but very funny and with a brilliant twist at the end

The first gathering of the housewives, it was really funny

The mystery is shaping up nicely

    The Bad:

Dylan and Julie made some really presumptuous claims about her father which weren't obvious but obviously all geared towards the mystery unravelling. Was a bit lame

Edie being so bunny-boiling- the Edie of earlier seasons would not be so pathetically desperate, and its getting boring

    The ???:

Why was Bree so shocked at Katherine slapping Dylan- Bree has slapped her children more than a few times!

Wasn't really sure about Gabby's hospital phobia. It felt a bit hammy tbh

A great episode, Katherine's mystery is intruging me even more!
  • Bree goes to war with the Wisteria Lane's original "Perfect Housewife".

    10
    "Perfect"
Gabby and Lynette's friendship is put to the test over Lynette's cancer battle and Gabrielle's avoidance of Lynette's treatment. Something which we find out is rooted within Gabby's past and her fathers unfortunate death when she was only five.

Susan makes good use of her pregnancy enhanced breasts by slutting it up for her newlywed husband Mike. An act which hilariously finds her mistaken for a stripper when she goes to fetch Julie from an out of control party.

Carlos is tricked into marrying Eddie even though he is in love with Gabby still. But has he arranged to have her killed?

Dylan becomes agitated by her lack of memory of Wisteria Lane leading us deeper into Katherine's secret. Meanwhile Katherine and Bree go head to head.

It is within this storyline that Marcia Cross truly shines. Showcasing her amazing acting talent to once again bring her brilliant character into top form. Katherine pulls a swiftly sly move and substitutes her own Lemon Meringue Pie for Bree's to which all her friends declare it "her best pie ever". This leads Bree to a near breakdown trying to replicate the superior pie and after multiple failed tries and a failed attempt at swapping recipes with Katherine she decides to let herself into her neighbours house to "borrow" the prized recipe. However she gets more than she stumbles upon the family fighting over the secret Katherine and her husband Adam have been hiding to protect Dylan.

The funniest line of the episode is when Bree is trying to swap Katherine's Lemon Meringue Pie recipe for her own Mince Meat Pie. When Katherine rudely refuses and insults Bree's recipe ("Yes, it's a very good one. I have the book it came from." "Well, unless your mother was Betty Crocker, she got it from a book.") Bree responds almost psychotically "Just give me the recipe!". I am completely biased with regards to this episode Bree is my favourite character and quite frankly my main reason for watching Desperate Housewives so an episode that features her so prominently and with such fantastic writing is sure to get major props from me. I rate this ten out of ten with it's perfect mix of drama, comedy, and mystery this truly IS exactly why I watch this series.
  • Lynette finds out who wants to be with her, and who's noT...Bree tries to proove once again that she is the housewive number one and Susan still have troubles to deal with marriage clauses.

Absolutely charming, Katherine still feels kind of new ha ha...Bree is the queen and she wants to proove it, anD Susan trying to fix her marrieD life, always blowin' it all uP!! A greaT episode!!! AnywaY the season is yeT to be discovered...So we onLy can enjoY it...By The Way, the sincere tears from Gaby about her father were touching, and its good to see how Lynette is taking her illness...she must be positive! Season Four seems to be strong-written and very very Desperate-styLe, it seems to be better than third season...let's see how it works...Smiles of a Summer Night fullfilled the mission!
  • Gbrielle reveals traumatic episode; Lynette avoids sentimentality; Susan is a mess, a cute mess like always and Bree obsesses about a cake and instead finds something out about Katherine

Frankly there were times when I was just bored by DH, thinking nothing really happened and the storylines were dull.

I decided to watch again, now that it´s airing again here in germany and I am positively surprised. I immediately got hooked again and this episode confirmed that.

I have to say what I enjoyed most was Gaby´s scene with Lynette where she talks about the death of her father. First I thought I didn´t have to cry but then, wow, I was sobbing. That was so sad and awful that she always had to smile like this. I really felt sorry for her and when at the end, she said that she was only 5, I finally lost it...

That was the first time I really felt sympathy for Gaby and even liked her.

Generally I always enjoy Lynette´s character, she´s just a wonderful, likeable character that always has nice storylines.

I just have to say, I hate Edie. She´s such a fake **** sorry, but tricking Carlos into saying YES, blackmailing him is disgusting, cheep and pathetic. She obviously has no self-esteem. Who wants to get married to someone who doesn´t want you??

Ah well, Susan is one cute disaster. Lying to Mike about her decision, was dumb but not that bad. A mistake nothing more.

I like that she´s pregnant but did she tell the girls? I´m not sure.

Bree is just amazingly crazy, but I kinda like her. Don´t ask me why..

I am dying to know what´s wrong with Katharine and Dylan... I think either the read dylan is gone and the now-Dylan is another girl or Katharine feld from Dylan´s dad or killed him, because he was violent... awww we´ll see.
  • Pie Matters Written by Matt Berry And Bob Daily Directed by David Grossman

    9.0
    "Superb"
Bree (to Katherine): "Certainly no tips are needed. Like my friends say, best pie ever made".

You do know this means war. It's only episode two and already the gloves are being taken off between Bree and Katherine. For two women so annoyingly alike, it's perhaps not that shocking that instead of bonding, there's an instant clash between them.

Both Bree and Katherine could be described as being mother hens and if there's one thing a mother hen won't do is allow someone else to swoop and try to run the show. The behaviour between these two is certainly evident of that.

With typically childish playground dynamics, Bree is determined to put Katherine in her place and when the new red head in town brings a lemon meringue after Bree specifically told her to stick to salad, it's almost surprising that Bree didn't react to Susan, Lynette and Gabrielle preferring Katherine's pie by breaking her rival's arm.

Katherine definitely knew what she was doing in that scene. She hid Bree's pie and watched everyone's delight when eating it. To someone like Katherine, that's one way to get a victory. Bree's fury could be felt off the screen but much as I felt for her, I still thought it was hilarious.

That's the funny thing about this story. With a plot as trivial as a lemon meringue, it's amazing how fantastic it's played out. This should be a pain in the arse to watch not interesting. It's even relieving to see Bree get so worked up about Katherine upstaging but at the same, this is the only kind of plot that would work with Bree's characters. It's not like Susan, Lynette or Gabrielle really give a damn about food.

Not only does this plot also remind us of Marcia Cross' flair for comedy but it's nice to see a mundane scene of sorts with Bree and Orson instead of them plotting or nearly getting killed for their troubles. However Orson does make the mistake of accidentally complimenting Katherine's pie. No wonder Bree gets so pissed.

Because of this whole scenario, the rivalry between Bree and Katherine is immediately vocalised. Neither woman took to each other in "Now You Know" and both of them do go out of their way to smite the other. Bree does this by accusing Katherine of being deliberately manipulative but Katherine's able to dismiss Bree's mincemeat pie recipe and even pulls off a label off her skirt. I wouldn't be surprised if these two didn't engage in a cake fight like Nora and Holly in Brothers And Sisters.

However as smart as Katherine would like to think she is (and she does seem pretty clued up), making an enemy of Bree wasn't her best move. Like Gabrielle, Bree is vindictive to get back someone in an excruciating manner and when Katherine refuses to give Bree the secret ingredient for her lemon meringue, Bree just decides to take it. Yeah, like breaking and entering isn't a common occurrence in this show.

Of course all this fuss over a recipe, you were kind of hoping it would lead to something a bit more juicy and fortunately it did. Before Bree is able to leg it out of the Mayfairs, she overhears Dylan and Katherine arguing about the former's father. Katherine was pretty ominous when she came back to Wisteria Lane and now Bree will be determined to get to the bottom of it.

So what the heck is Katherine's big secret? One guess that I have is her killing Dylan's father in self-defence, hence the rush to move to Chicago back in 1995. Perhaps Dylan's father was an abuser but Dylan not remembering is the other thing. Is the girl called Dylan biologically Katherine or did Katherine go to extremes to make Dylan forget the big secret.

Connecting Katherine to the wives was a good touch. This how the Seasons One and Three mysteries worked so well and how the Season Two one with the Applewhites failed miserably. It was nice to see Mary Alice and Susan in flashbacks as both women questioned Katherine's urgent need to leave town. I'm hoping Susan also plays a role in the mystery than just purely Bree.

With Julie being Uber suspicious of Dylan, it's a good possibility. As for Julie, four years down the line and she still hasn't turned into the child from hell. Heck even when her and Mike have opposing views on a neighbourhood party and Susan ends up taking Mike's side, I still can't Julie annoying. I have to admit I sort of like the friction between Julie and Mike in this episode. Not that I want Julie to start disliking Mike but I admire the show for showing the difficulties of Mike's transition in Julie's life. He's got from the on-off boyfriend to her mother to now being her stepfather. That change was never going to be easy and I applaud the show for addressing.

However Susan does make a bad error in judgement. Telling Julie she can't go to a party in front of Mike, only to let her go behind Mike's back isn't fair. While Mike has to earn the right to be an authority figure in Julie's life, Susan's attempts of appeasing both parties is more likely to create more tension between Mike and Julie than stop it. Susan's heart is in the right place but as per usual her actions are a bit backwards.

It's hilarious then when Susan has to bust Julie out of the party. Given Susan's penchant for weirdness, it's fun to see a bunch of randy teenagers confuse her for a stripper and for Julie to find her embarrassing. As for the party, jeez Mike if you ever saw Skins, then you'd have reason to worry. The party in question was embarrassingly tame and Julie was probably the only one not drinking alcohol. I don't know why but that slightly disappointed me.

The resolution to that plot was a little too easy. Mike forgave Susan for lying to him and Julie made a few cheeky comments. All in all, this was the light hearted plot of the week.

So with the light hearted, there was more heavy things to balance it out. Lynette continues to deal with chemo and Tom gets booted out for being too sappy. Aw, even when Tom is being sweet, he loses points. Then again Lynette did make it clear from the last time that she wanted no pity, tears, etc. I get where Tom was coming from but if I were Lynette, I'd probably feel the same way.

With Tom no longer invited to chemo, it's the girls who take turns to visit Lynette in hospital. Heck, even Katherine is busting her backside to be by Lynette's side and she hardly knows. I kinda hope that Katherine is being genuine with Lynette and not just doing it to piss Bree off even more. However not every housewife is willing to give Lynette their time. Of course it would have to be Gabrielle who would try to come up every lame excuse under the sun not to see Lynette in the hospital. For once, it's not Gabrielle's total lack of concern for other people that's stopping but clearly it gets to Lynette.

So what's Gabby's beef? Aside from the universal loathing of hospitals that nearly everyone has, there's a surprising backstory – Gabby had a father who died of cancer when she was little, hence her hatred of hospital. Her fidgeting attitude should've been a giveaway. Even Gabby cares about her friends.

Given how much Gabby gets on my nerves, it's great that the writers do give her a little depth every now and then. Her constant fidgeting at the hospital felt realistic and seeing as her father died when she was so young, I can see why it still affects her. It's also great to see Eva Longoria-Parker do something emotive and she plays off brilliantly with Felicity Huffman in that scene alone.

As if that wasn't awesome enough, Lynette's determination to live had Gabby throwing a party for her at the hospital with the rest of the girls. Why can't we see this side to her more often? You have to admit it's a heck of a lot more interesting than her affair with Carlos.

Personally I just wish Edie and Victor would catch the two of them so Edie can move on and stop acting like a bunny boiler and Victor can just leave. Gabby can still leave Victor but Edie literally has Carlos by the balls thanks that offshore account. Damn, Carlos you may be cute but you are amazingly stupid as well.

Edie gets her own birthday wish by twisting Carlos' arm in accepting her proposal and Carlos finally decides that enough is enough when he's talking to a shady guy at the end. Granted Edie has become a pain but I still don't want her killed. Just break her and Carlos up already, that's all.

Also in "Smiles Of A Summer Night"

For the second episode in a row, there's those annoying short credits. Please don't tell me that we're the same Season Two scenario again.

Katherine (to Susan/Bree/Gabrielle): "So if it isn't the gossip brigade. Who have we been dishing on today?"

    Gabrielle: "Susan"

Katherine: "But she's standing right behind you".

If Katherine left Wisteria Lane in 1995, then how come herself and Bree never met? Bree moved to Fairview before then.

Susan: "You really don't want to miss out on Bree's pie. It's brilliant"

Katherine: "Well, then who am I to argue with perfection?"

    Tom: "Honey, I'm your ride"

    Lynette: "I'll cab it".

Katherine pulling off the label off Bree reminded me of Nina doing that to Lynette in "I Wish I Could Forget You".

Carlos: "Do you want me to go to jail?"

Edie: "Goodness, Carlos. I had no idea your situation was so precarious".

Susan: "And you know I love you both"

    Julie: "Decide"

    Susan: "Mike".

Why didn't Edie go to see Lynette at the hospital or visit her during lunch? Lynette visited her during the fake suicide and I thought that Edie actually liked (or at least respected) Lynette.

Orson: "Don't be so hard on yourself. This one's fantastic"

    Bree (re Katherine): "That's hers".

Gabrielle (re hospital visit): "Is this a test of our friendship?"

Lynette: "Yeah, kinda. Can you pencil me in?"

    Gabrielle: "Can't wait".

Lynette's stopped wearing the wig in this episode. Maybe it's part of her acceptance that she has cancer while being determined to beat it.

Carlos: "So I'm dying to see what I got you. How thoughtful was I?"

    Edie: "Very".

Edie: "Carlos, I think I'm gonna cry"

    Carlos: "Yeah me too".

There was no Andrew, Danielle, any Scavo children or Stella in this episode.

Mike: "She was worried when she left with a stripper"

Julie (to Susan): "The jig is up, Mom".

Lynette: "Don't you care enough to make the effort?"

Gabrielle: "You don't think I care?"

Susan, Mary Alice and Katherine had dodgy wigs. Has anyone filled Katherine in on Mary Alice's mystery?

Gabrielle: "I was scared I was gonna lose you"

Lynette: "You're not gonna lose me".

Adam (re Dylan): "She's only gonna ask more questions"

Katherine: "And we're gonna have to come up with better lies".

Chronology: None is specified since "Now You Know".

Okay two episodes in and I'm liking the results. "Smiles Of A Summer Night" keeps up the mystery angle, sets up a shift in dynamics and delivers with the moving stuff (Lynette/Gabby) as well as some of the best one-liners of the season.
  • Intriguing, very.

    "Perfect"
Well so far the show has picked up from the previous episode's disaster, which is great because the real Desperate Housewives is back!

Desperate Housewives is finally improving with more intriguing and upgraded story-lines. Carlos and Edie are having bumps all over their relationship, and the way the show is treating Edie, why doe sit make me believe she's dying this season? And Lynette, oh Lynette, I can't help but feel sorry for you and Gabby nearly brought all the goodness to the show with her amazing speech about her dad having cancer. Bree and Katherine continue to face-off with which one of them is Bree-er than the other. Susan and Mike are having difficulties deciding whether Julie can do this or not. The mystery gets juicier when Bree hears things she shouldn't and Dylen starts to question her mother.

Episode Quote (courtesy of Mary-Alice Young): There is nothing more deceptive than a smile. And no one knows this better than the people who hide behind them. Some flash their teeth as a polite warning to their enemies, some put on beaming faces to keep their tears from falling, others wear silly grins to mask their fear, and then, there is that rare smile that is actually genuine. It's is the smile of a person that knows that his troubles will soon be over.
  • What hides behind the smile.

Absolutely amazing episode that returned to Season 1 amazingness.

Lynette kicks Tom out of her chemo therapy when he becomes too emotional and she needs someone to cheer her up.

Gabrielle continues to have affair with Carlos and she tells Lynette about her father that died of cancer and that is why she can't stand to be around her because back then she had to smile because it was a rule and now she can't pretend. (The amazing scene)

Bree goes to couisne war with Katherine when Katherine makes a better pie and refuses to give the recipe to Bree which ultimately leads Bree to break into her house just so she can hear Katherine and Adam talking and they say that Dylan can never find out about her father and about the things he had done.

Susan has an issue because she doesn't know who to back up in Julie-Mike situation and when she goes to party to drag Julie out of she is mistaken for a stripper.

Edie gets herself a nice birthday present and she proposes to Carlos and he has to say Yes because she blackmails him...which leads him to hire someone...to kill her or just to make her dissappeare.

Desperate Housewives are so back and they are better then ever.
  • In the whole DH story, this is the episode which made me laugh out loud better! I don't remember laughing so much with another one. Besides in the other hand you cry aswell. Isn't that perfect?

    10
    "Perfect"
Whoa! I only can say that I am freaking out about the perfection of this episode. I read the whole little review before seeing it and I thought it was going to be a bad episode without storyline, but I cannot be more happy after seeing it! In fact I am not going to read anymore that little review that appears next to the tittle.

Gabi: The first time I write her in the first time. Congratulations to Eva coz this time she has made me believe for real she is a good actress. I was like "Is or is not a good actress?" After seeing her here I can see for sure that she is good! Xd It was so touching her last scene that it's really difficult not to cry. About Carlos... I did not understand very well why he had to be in the house before Edie... And the final part gotta be another thing coz I don't think he is able to do that at all.

Lynette: As always she was excellent! I really love her character and Felicity's job. It is really strange seeing her without hair... It is like she is not the real Lynette.

And Tom was very funny, anyway I would want him to act the last scene, but after seeing Gabi I think it was better that they did not use Tom to do that.

Susan: Well, it was a really great storyline. I think I have not laugh more in my entire life when she said "This is not that moment when you go out and I go running downstreet!" It was hilarious doing that allusion to season 2 episode! Xd The other great moment was her there between Mike and her daugther.

Bree: Marcia did a great acting but it was not the storyline that I was expecting, it was like unbelievable. Anyway it was really funny! But I want another tipe of storyline in her.

The new neighbour: The storyline is really interesting, I don't understand very well what is going on but I like it. The whole music thingy is new and it is original! And I loved how they did the scene in the past.

Well, that is all! I loved this episode.
  • The 10 is for the moment when Lynette says Gaby's name after everyone else has said they'll go to chemo with her.

The 10 is for the moment when Lynette says Gaby's name after everyone else has said they'll go to chemo with her. Eva Longoria-Parker is such an amazing comic actress, much like her [name] sister, Sarah Jessica (hehe). But really, classic DW moment. Also, I was worried at the end of Season 3 by Mike and Susan's marriage. This is ideal for those carrying that torch, but remember that it takes away that amazing dynamic of Susan/Mike on again off again. Though I must say, their chemistry married is just as pleasing, but then again these characters have never been able to stay together for too long.
  • I can't wait to see how Bree's and Katherines friendship pans out!

Going crazy over pie is something Bree would totally do and did do. But I didn't think she was going to go to the extent that she did. Getting nippers to cut off the lock was funny! Katherine has a lot of secrets that are going to come spilling out sooner then later and I can't wait for when they do. Susan cracks me up....Teri Hatcher plays this part brilliantly. I love how the boys at the party thought she was a stripper...she should have never left the house with that little number on. Oh well we will let it pass after all she has prego brain!

I almost started crying when Gabby started talking about her dad to Lynette, that was a different side of her character that we hardly get to see. I am wondering whats going to happen to Edie and her blackmailing ways? It should be interesting!
  • Episode 2, season 4

Blackmailing Carlos to get married, when he doesn't clearly want it at all? I don't like the way writers are making Edie be such an annoying character. I mean, even when Edie had a b!tchy behavior, she was always witty and fun to watch. Now, she is just pathetic.

Bree breaking into Katherine's house to get the coveted recipe... Just priceless. I couldn't stop laughing when she was talking to Orson and, at the same time, she was stirring some cream & lemon like a crazy person. Katherine's secret is getting more interesting, I can't wait to figure out what happened.

Gabrielle's confession about her sick father was heartbreaking. Well, Gaby is supposed to be the shallow one, but I like the fact then, out of the blue, she turns out to be the exact opposite.
  • Bree goes crazy over a recipe, Mike and Susan disagree over how to raise Julie, & the mystery with the daughter gets deeper

Desperate Housewives has been really picking up the pace this season as opposed to last and I'm glad. Susan getting mistaken for a stripper at the kid's party was pretty funny and the best was Bree breaking into the house to steal a recipe for lemon mirengue (sp?) pie was just so funny. I love that she's off her rocker. (on a side note there is clearly something with me loving the craziest characters on TV!) I felt bad for Gaby in this episode, I mean, I'm glad that she told Lynette what happened and why she doesn't like hospitals, but I don't like that Lynette was trying to force her to come to the hospital for her. I understand taht Lynette is sick, but you can't force someone to do something that clearly makes them that uncomfortable. Just another reason why Lynette is my least favorite character on this show. I think (cancer notwithstanding) she is the most selfish one on the show and I really dislike the way she treats the people in her life. Oh and I also hate Edie, this storyline with Carlos is getting annoying, I'm glad he hired someone to get rid of her cause she is horrible! Can't wait for next week.
  • DH just might be getting back to it's amazingness.

I am very impressed with the first two episodes of this season. I think they are just perfect. They are funny, but also serious toned. The new mystery is very interesting. They seem to be writing it like the husband is dead because Katherine caught him doing something to Dylan. It just cannot be this simple. Im looking forward to the shocking twist at the end.

Susan has been hilarious! The "eggs" jokes last episode were very funny. Now this episode she crashes a party Julie is at and kids think she is a stripper which had me laughing and rolling on the floor for quite some time.

Bree VS Katherine is so entertaining. They are both a hoot and a half. Dana and Marcia have great chemistry. Bree going all out to find the secret ingredient was so her. Loved it.

Gabby and Lynette's scene in the hospital was so touching. At fist I thought Gabby didnt want to go see Lynette because she wanted to spend time doing Carlos, but when I found out her true reason, I saw her in a new light.

Overall, a very excellent episode. Cannot wait for next week's installment.
  • really solid all around, the characters were all at the best both comedically and dramatically and the plot continues to thicken.

this season is off to a really good start, the first episode set up the best mystery they've had since the first season, and the second episode was just really solid all around, the characters were all at the best both comedically and dramatically and the plot continues to thicken. and a big complaint of seasons 2 and 3, that the characters weren't interacting in one big plot like they did in season 1, is no longer the case--- we see lots of interaction and interweaving plots, it's all very very well done right now! brie and the new woman (catherine's) rivalry has potential to be CLASSIC, lynette's struggle with cancer is very interesting and is pulling gabby into it, gabby's fling with carlos ties into edie, etc etc... very good!
  • Another great episode of housewives..... Bree sneaking in with the wrench, haha.... funny!!!! Can't belive Carlos is gonna kill Edie!!!!!!

Okay, this was another really good episode. A lot of stuff happened, and we are getting in the Mayfair secret bit by bit. Susan and Mike deciding whether or not Julie could go to the party was just cute. And with the breakfast scene, with the syrup, way too funny!!!! Then when she gets busted and she says "this isn't one of those things where you leave me and I go crying out in the street chasing you down", so cute with her remembering when he found out about Zach and left her in a wedding dress in the street. It was so nice to see Mary Alice again. I am so excited that this is a secret that is from the time when she was alive cause that means we will get to see her a lot. I thought it was hilarious with Lynette in chemo sessions especially with Tom. And with Gaby, very teary eyed. Bree was just way too funny trying to be better than Katherine. I still think there is no one more perfect, more stepford wife than Bree Van De Kamp. She will always be the one to me. I can't believe how manipulative Edie is, making Carlos marry her. But I can't believe Carlos is gonna zap her either. It's like they deserve each other. I feel this is gonna go in the pooper though. I don't see him going through with it. Oh boy, can't wait until next week!

this episode was awesome. the whole neighborhood theif was so funny. carlos was all sweety after that. bree felt the competition with the new neighbor, and stole her recipee. she was very funny when she was jealous. and everybody kept saying they loved the pie that wasnt hers. susan was mistaken for a stripper. that was hilarious. she kinda did look like one. edie is annoyin me so much. she practicly blackmailed carlos into marrying her. gaby goes to the hospital with lynette but doesnt want to. she had reasons. and her story was very sad. i felt so bad for her. you really get to see gabys emotion. amazing episode.

Yes, perfect balance between comedy, mystery and touching moments.

I liked the way Gaby and Lynette tightened their friendship, useful to learn something about Gaby's father, that's never been mentioned before.

I really like Bree and Catherine rivalry, and the way Orson (my favourite character) supports his wife, seconding her thoughts like a true friend. Now that Bree knows something about Catherine and her daughter, she sure has something to become stronger in front of her and take advantage of the situation...maybe Catherine will find out that Bree is not pregnant and the parts won't be even again...

The family parethesis between Julie, Susan and Mike was quite realistic, and I appreciated that too, I think that was useful to make them stronger.

And then there are Carlos and Edie...what will do the man to whom Carlos gave money? I don't really think he paid to have Edie killed, but who knows?
  • God...if gets better...no...it's impossible.

At first, it was one of the must funny. I coudn't remember being that funny since 1st season. And it was so funny the Julie-Susan-Mike thingy. Susan is the best, and being confused with a striper, was abslutly great. BTW , did Teri Hatcher get breast implants? LOL

But then the Gaby-Lynette plot was great, I cried like a baby, it was so great how Gaby told Lynette, and the party at the end was absolutly...GABY.

Katherine is the perfect Bree in the 1st season, riding Andrew's run over in Carlos' mom. And I hope I like her better because she has the potential to grow on the show.

Just wish she doesn't get left behind when the season ends.

    That's It.

    Great Great Great.
  • The ladies plan a lunch for Lynette, putting Bree and Katharine at odds. Susan must figure how to balance raising Julie with Mike now in the picture. Lynette's chemo is going well, despite her company. Edie tries to trap Carlos. The secret is hinted.

I loved this episode, they finally put Bree and Katharine at odds, I am waiting for a catfight between the two, over something like linens or flowers. The whole pie thing was hilarious, it was funny seeing Bree being upstaged, especially sicne the last time it happened it was because the housewive upstagging her was also harboring illegal workers to maintain her house.

So Gabby revealed to Lynetter her father had cancer, which is why she has been so weirded out by Lynette's chemo.

She is still sleeping with Carlos, the opening was hilarious, and in true Desperate Housewives form.

Julie and Mike were at odds, and put Susan in the middle, it was a tricky situation, Mike clearly cares for Julie's well-being, but it has to be dificult for Julie to accept, and Susan should not put herself in the middle, but should have stood her ground all along. How funny was it when she showed up at the party in her linergie, and the boys thought she was a stripper.

So now we know that the Mayfair's secret has something to do with Dylan's estranged father. We also got to see how they packed up and left so quick, but I pictured it to be a middle of the night type of thing, they left in the afternoon, suddenly sure but not that mysteriously, so there has to be a lot more there.

I think the biggest moment was the end where Carlos hired someone to take care of Edie, but that may not mean to have her killed, I feel like it might be less severe than that.

    Very good installment.
  • An episode with funny, exciting, and emotional storylines

I loved this episode. It was so funny. The Susan storyline was my favorite. I just loved how she agreed with Mike and then secretly told Julie she should go to the party. Then of course she changes her mind and goes to the party and they think she is a stripper. It fit together so perfectly that she was still wearing her outfit from in the bedroom with Mike. I just thought it was so funny that someone called the house wondering about Julie because she left with the stripper. The tension between Bree and the new neighbor was also good. I just loved watching them go at it while still being nice. Orson and Bree were also good, it is so funny how he understands her need to be the best so well. I also loved how they kept complimenting Bree's cake and it turned out to be the neighbors. Lynette's storyline was good to, I loved Gabby's emotional story. It is great how she seems shallow on the outside but really isn't. I can't believe Carlos wants to get rid of Edie. That storyline also played out nicely. It was so funny how he ran back to his house in the beginning. The car and the proposal made it really exciting. This episode had some good storylines and some really funny parts.

The theme is obviously secrets this season. The first two episodes that revolved around that idea. Gabby and Carlos are continuing their love affair and Gabby is now pressuring Carlos to leave Edie. Edie is blackmailing Carlos because she knows about his off-shore money. So she is pressuring him to marry her, and he finally caves. But at the end he pays a man to fix the big mess and end the Edie's infatuation. Lynette finds out how much Gabby cares for and why she didn't want to go to the hospital and be her buddy while she was doing chemo. Bree and Katherine are not getting along what-so-ever and Bree finally "breaks in" to Katherine's house and to get the recipe that has them bickering in this episode. While there she hears about a huge secret that Katherine is keeping from the last time she lived on Wisteria Lance. Susan and Mike decide to quit keeping secrets from each other after Mike finds out that Susan went behind his back. Will the writers let us in on the secret of Katherine's before the season finale?

"Smiles of a Summer Night" – what a great title. And the "smile" theme was worked into the stories very well. I definitely liked this episode, mainly because I laughed more than I yelled at the TV screen.

For some reason, I seem to be enjoying the 4th season a lot more than I thought I would. I think it's because most of the storylines are new and lighter. The only things that have carried on from the 3rd season are Lynette's cancer, Bree's pregnancy, and Susan and Mike being married. There haven't been any comas, hit and runs, or hostage takings. I hope the writers keep up the comedy part of the "dark comedy".

Is Carlos putting a hit out on Edie? It sure looks that way. He doesn't really seem like the type; for all we know the money is for that guy to woo Edie until she leaves Carlos. But it's still creepy.

Edie really reminded me of Marilyn Monroe in this episode. I think it was her line about driving around town with the top down so everyone could see her new earrings.

The scene between Gaby and Lynette was so sad! I don't think Gaby has had a scene like this since she released the balloon to signify her lost baby back in season two. It was interesting to learn more about her family, though.

Bree was really funny. Only she would break and enter to get a pie recipe. (It was nice to see the key cabinet back again!) And I realized while watching this that Marcia has been going around with a pregnant belly for quite some time now! First it was her own twins, now she's harboring a fake baby bump. I'm sure she'll be relieved when it's over.

I can't believe Katherine slapped her daughter. Dylan should return the favor for being lied to her whole life. Speaking of Dylan, her past is certainly intriguing, but I'm sensing some similarities to Monique – like when Mike arrived at Orson's house and heard something going on in the background.

One more thing – I loved Eva's hair in this episode. All the styles she had were gorgeous. :D
  • Aside from some strangely placed act breaks, this episode pretty much rocked.

Season four is off to a great start, and I couldn't be happier for Desperate Housewives. It seems like some of the lesser storylines have been wrapped up, leaving room for the main characters to really show what they're made of...but that's not to say that the new neighbors have nothing to offer.

It's easy to worry that because Susan's interest in Mike was one of the more compelling romantic threads, her storyline might become stagnant once they actually got married. Fortunately, their marriage seems capable of providing further dramatic (and comedic) moments, as is evidenced by Susan's antics in this episode. Watching her trying to keep the peace between Julie and Mike in her own sneaky way reminded me of how great the characterization is in this series.

Lynette and Gabrielle's story, though somewhat transparent, culminated in a pretty good scene in the hospital, but Bree's thread really moved the plot along in a very well-written and unconventional way. Not only did this story showcase Bree's greatest insecurities and desires--the writers used the simple pie conflict to introduce Bree to the new neighbors' real secret. Most of the audience was probably expecting a comic scene with Bree perilously scurrying around the Mayfair house hiding from its occupants, but instead we were hit with a revealing moment of drama. As a side note, Orson's reactions to Bree throughout the episode were hysterically understated--what a great match for Bree, and what a great addition to the cast.
  • They finally got the feel of series one back!

This was one incredible episode. Not since season one and some of series two (Next, One More Kiss, Don't Look at Me, and Remember) has this show been so good. There was tons of comedy, character development, and desperation.

There was a great balance of every wife's story in this episode, especially Bree's. There were so many classic Bree moments, especially stealing the recipe, with the original Desperate Housewives writing where she gets some pliers after needing something with which to bake (which only helps further my argument that Bree is the best one on that show).

Gaby's story about her dad was quite well done, Felicity did an awesome job as usual, keeping Lynette a strong and independent character. Dana Delany is a great actress, her performance was so realistic and Lyndsy Fonseca is actually doing a pretty good job. Susan crashing the party was so reminiscent of "Impossible" (1-15) where she crashed Zack's pool party only to find Andrew and Justin making out in the pool naked.

Overall, this was one great Desperate Housewives episode. I really think that this show is truly bouncing back from last season's mediocrity. Now less of Edie would be even nicer (I like her as a character, but they're overdoing her, I want to over-sexed Edie back)…
