loved this episode of desperate housewives, the stuff with bree and lynette was really enjoyable i thought lynette catching wind of bree's alcoholism was great with her lying the bottles outside bree's house, the gaby stuff was ok not great but i enjoyed seeing her mum, the susan stuff was also enjoyable but nothing great overall loved this episode

Bree has to be one of my favourites in this series and Marcia Cross\'s performance is superb. With her husband murdered by her psychotic pharmacist who commited suicide and with two rather obnoxious children, Bree is beginning to spiral down into an emotional wreck, surpressing the emotions with alcohol.

Her alcoholism has been subtlely introduced over the past few weeks, with many scenes including a prop of a glass in her hand.

I just wanted to reach out to Bree in this episode and help her.

Gabrielle's storyline this week was a little bit silly and I wasn't entirely convinced by the actress playing her mother.

Edie's excitement over the assumed proposal was delightful yet painful to watch.

All together, not the most outstanding episode to date, but certainly an important one.

A drunken Bree stumbles home and falls asleep on the lawn. Mrs McClusky tries to help her, and goes inside to tell Andrew. He looks at Bree and laughs, then turns on the sprinklers. Gabrielle and Carlos learn that she is most likely unable to conceive a child again because of complications caused from her recent accident. Susan and Karl marry so that she can get her health insurance for her operation, unbeknownst to Edie, who finds the ring and a prenuptial agreement and thinks Karl is going to propose to her. Gabrielle's mother comes to visit in the middle of her and Carlos' baby problems, and offers to be their surrogate. Gabrielle sees it as a way for her to stay in their lives, and she refuses. It is revealed that Gabby was sexually assaulted by her step father when she was fifteen, and her mother refused to believe her, thinking she was just jealous. Carlos then turns her away, and comforts his wife. Tom asks Mrs McClusky to baby-sit, much to Lynnette's displeasure, so she gets Bree instead. While looking after the kids, Bree stats drinking, and soon falls asleep. The boys get together and take baby Penny and end up miles away in a salon. Lynnette and Tom get a call and they go and pick their kids up. They arrive home to find a frantic Bree, who has awoken and had no idea where the children were. Lynnette asks her about it, and Bree lets her believe the boys just ran off. Later, while Lynnette is talking to Mrs McClusky, she reveals the incident that happened on the lawn. Lynette confronts Bree, who is shocked by her accusation and refuses to talk to her. Bree goes inside, and Lynnette goes through her trash and takes out all the wine bottles, lining them up on her doorstep with a note saying 'Do you think you have a problem?'.
  • Bree gets drunk and punished for that while Gabrielle has to deal with her mother who\'s suggesting to carry the baby for her. Susan gets in trouble when she needs her old weddingring while Lynette needs an relyable babysitter and chooses Bree.

The plotline of Edie and Susan is just hilarious, how can anyone make up this stuf? It is so funny and so great that only Desperate Housewives can be responsable for that. Bree who has an drinking problem isn\'t that great eventhough the rest of the episode is. Funny that she had to lie and that Lynette believed her. I found it very disturbing that the kids weren\'t getting mad! The love between Gabrielle and Carlos is growing, just the way is should! They are perfect for each other. Evenso, Thank You So Much isn\'t an excentric episode. It has the same quality as any other Desperate Housewive-episode; great plot-outlines, funny situations and good acting. Just the way I like it..

  • Not so muc humour as usual but still a great episode.

As Lynette helps Bree to realise her drinking problem it makes me wonder when this problem started. Sure she has always drinked but it has never been a problem, why has it developed now?

With Susan's marriage to Carl, and his plan to marry Edie as soon as he is divorced from Susan, will Susan get jealous?

And what will become of Zach and Mike's relationship now that Zach knows who his father is?

Liked this episode, nice that they showed more about Gabrielle, now everyone can understand how she became this way.

Also, Lynette found out about Bree's drinking problem, I hope she's going to get help because she needs some! Liked what Andrew did with the water at the start by the way.

It was funny to see Susan get married, but i hope they'll divorce soon, because it could ruin her relationship with docter Ron=D

No Applewhites this episode, which I actually missed!

    Well overall, a nice episode!

I am glad that Brees drinking problem is finaly discoverd and I hope she will get therapie very soon.

As Mary Alice nicely puts it, every now and then we need help. With the residents of Wisteria Lane, you could wager psychiatric help but just like in real life, they are people who will easily accept help when they are better and far more legal options to consider and those who reject a lifeline when they should really grab on.

Notice that in the last episode I highly rated the conjunction of two housewives stories into one made for riveting TV, like with Lynette and Gabrielle in “One More Kiss”. Well the same applies here again and the format is just as engrossing to watch as Lynette learns the hard way about Bree’s alcoholism when the twins go rambling with Penny while under Bree’s care. I was curious as to why Lynette would leave her kids with Bree after the events of “Children Will Listen” but this time round, Bree really is to blame.

She fell asleep while looking after the Scavo kids and lied straight to Lynette’s face about it too to make it worse and then turned on her friend when confronted about her drinking. Her drink problem was finally under the microscope tonight. First with falling asleep on her lawn and then being mercilessly teased about her habit by Andrew and Danielle (it makes you wonder if she was Hitler in a past life to deserve children like these two twits) and then she stupidly chucks her antihistamines in favour of alcohol.

I liked how Lynette confronted Bree about the babysitting incident and her friend’s behaviour. When she got the truth from a reluctant Bree, she kept her cool. Any other parent would’ve lost theirs after their best friend didn’t keep a watchful eye on her kids. Leaving a note and lining up the number of wine bottles at Bree’s door was certainly an imaginative and genius stroke on the scriptwriter’s part.

Like it or not, Bree has a serious problem with the booze and it doesn’t take a genius to see that all her boozing stems from the bad shit she’s had to deal with over the last couple of months and the crappy support system she’s had. This episode confirmed that when you get Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman into a scene together, particularly serious ones, you have riveting television on your hands.

With Lynette and Tom’s plot largely routed into Bree’s, the return of Karen McClusky added some much needed humour to proceedings. I lover her and Lynette’s little rivalry. Lynette is so determined not to be indebted to this woman in any way but Karen doesn’t even have to try and she can still get one up on Lynette. Okay, Tom may have screwed his wife over by getting her arch enemy to babysit the terror twins but still, it’s a defeat for Lynette in a way.

Keeping with getting one up, does anyone else find Susan and Karl’s sham marriage on the ridiculous side? Susan even had a great moment where she was going to back out for all the right reasons, like y’know deceiving her new boyfriend and getting in trouble with the law if caught but sadly Karl managed to talk her out of it. Damn it Karl. Damn it indeed!

I know Karl still has feelings for Susan but the guy is seriously playing with fire here. He was lucky that Susan in her inadvertent way managed to persuade/make Edie realise that the ring and pre nuptial agreement she found wasn’t for her, which probably means he won’t be as lucky next time as him and Susan get remarried by the episode’s ending. This splenectomy saga is getting a little dull and the sooner Susan has the operation, the better.

I really wished her and Karl had taken in Julie’s disapproval of them getting married and as for Edie, no matter what Karl says he obviously doesn’t love her and this hour proved it. It’s kind of similar to the way that Susan doesn’t really love Ron either. Ron is convenient to Susan like Edie is to Karl, yet neither of them realise that which is sad.

Speaking of love, Paul has a warped way of showing his for Zach and we’re back to his surly manner of silencing Zach’s curiosity about his birth parents. Has Paul ever considered the fact that maybe telling Zach the truth for once and allow him to decide for himself over how he handles this information would be an advantage to him? Of course not but whatever control Paul has on Zach, it’s beginning to wane by the minute. His response to Zach over an understandable question was vile and thanks to his hostility and glee over hurting Mike, Zach now knows who his real father is and the scene where Mike and Paul are discussing Noah is pretty cool to watch.

Noah’s pretty determined not to die before meeting his newly discovered grandson, even though both Mike and Paul want Zach nowhere near him. I agree with Mike dismissing Noah as toxic and judging by the fact he employs that brute Sullivan, I really don’t trust him. What some people will do to get to know a child, huh?

Children feature into the Solis’s plot too as Gabrielle and Carlos find out that they now face complications in starting a family of them, given Gaby’s miscarriage. Gabrielle does her best to offer helpful and obvious alternatives by suggesting adoption and surrogacy, which Carlos only agrees to when Gaby’s mother, Lucia offers to be a surrogate. I’ve heard of sisters doing this but mothers, isn’t a tad weird?

This was one of the first episodes this season where I liked Gabrielle from start to finish. I liked how she sent her mother packing and opened up to Carlos about being raped by her stepfather, Alejandro and up until the final quarter of the episode, I kind of liked Lucia. Maria Conchita Alonso has a striking similarity to Eva Longoria and looking at both mother and daughter, it’s easy to see where Gaby gets her selfish and materialistic streaks from but I felt saddened that Lucia would take the word over her husband than her daughter is bad.

Carlos proved to be quite the nice guy in this hour with trying to get peace between Gabrielle and Lucia and then taking his wife’s wishes to adopt more seriously at the end. All I ask from Cherry and company is that we get more acts of kindness from Gabrielle and Carlos because in fairness, it makes for better viewing.

Also in “Thank You So Much”

Housewife of the week: Three years ago we watched Susan wreck havoc on Karl for cheating on her by smashing his tools, burning his shoes, running over his golf clubs and throwing away his grandmother’s ring. It was funny to watch Karl forcing Susan to brave snakes in order to get it back then.

Julie (to Susan/Karl): “If I see one lingering look between you, I’ll turn you into the insurance, I swear”.

Andrew (re Bree): “I know how to take care of her”

    Karen: “Good”.

It was neat that the restaurant where Bree got drunk in was one of her and Rex’s favourites and how she recapped her life the last couple of months to Tony the waiter was a nice touch too.

Lynette (re Karen babysitting): “Just the twins and Penny?”

    Tom: “That was stupid”.

Zach: “It’s natural to want to know about my birth parents”

Paul: “It may be natural but it’s not polite”.

When Susan told Ron about her wedding, she neither confirmed nor denied it was hers. Also was the registrar in on the scam with Susan and Karl? I got that vibe that he was.

Tom (to Lynette): “The kids walked three miles to get here. We don’t have a leg to stand on”.

    Susan: “Marriage?”

Edie: “I don’t wanna ruin your Valentines. Do you want a tissue?”

No Applewhites in this episode or Parker and Felicia (who was credited strangely enough).

Carlos: “I wanted to have a child of our own, you know that”

Gabrielle: “What does it matter whose DNA it is, the diapers are still going to smell the same regardless”.

The chronology is a year since “Love Is In The Air” and two months since “Colour And Light”.

Edie: “I thought you said the desert was special”

Karl: “When you put it in your mouth”.

Lynette’s note to Bree said – “Do you still think you don’t have a problem?”

Standout music: The Arias in the Bree’s restaurant I guess.

“Thank You So Much” is exactly what we needed. Okay Susan’s plot is still dull and the Applewhites should’ve made an appearance but with every other plot sparkling, the fun is deterred. The themes of help and gratitude got used wonderfully tonight and the interpersonal drama (which at times has been distracting this season) worked brilliantly tonight.

  • Nothing really happened. Future episodes should NOT skip the Applewhites.

Episodes 204, 206, 209, and 215 have something in common. They all left out something very vital to the show; a mystery. I know they somewhat incorperated Noah and Felicia from Season One to wrap up the Young mystery, but they're ignoring the storyline that seems to not fit into Season Two. The Applewhites. Unfortunately, they don't use her much, and for someone that had a "real, gothic, spooky, criminal" secret, they've chosen to not make it too exciting. So apperantly, Betty's son killed a girl named Melanie Foster. Ok... so that still doesn't answer where her husband is, why she holds Matthew so affectionatly, or what she did that was so "creepy". Other than that, not really anything happened. We did get an insite on Gabbrielle's life before she left her mother, but hopefully they won't throw that story line away. I know that many people are fans of the nun, but I think that she may have a deeper connection, and they never really explained why she's so obsessed with Carlos. I hope that future episodes are better, because if it keeps going like this, it's going to end up being cancelled.

"And in those rare instances when there is no ulterior motive, we're so taken aback that we may fail to recognize the truth...that a loving friend has just done us an enormous favor"--Mary Alice

First off, sorry this review is late. In fact it is very late which is usually not the case for me. But anyway, can I say wow? This was really a wonderfully good episode. The episode's theme is really the topic of friendship, thankfulness and taking a second look. Each of these qualities are very much exhibited in this episode by all of the main characters.

Susan, is desperately trying to keep her secret engagement to Karl together. Bree's alcoholism is getting far worse than it has ever been which causes problems for Lynette and Gabrielle's mother is unforgiving and totally oblivious.

A large part of the episode really revolves around Bree. I can honestly say this is the episode that makes Bree's alcoholism aware to her friends. Lynette more specifically. At an Italian eatery on the night before Valentine's day, Bree quietly sits and drinks as a man sings opera...quite depressing opera. She keeps drinking and is soon too drunk to drive. The waiter calls her a cab and when she arrives home she collapses in front of the house and falls asleep on the lawn. Mrs. McCluskey discovers her the morning after and tells Andrew what happened. Andrew decides to wake Bree up by turning on the sprinkers which is hilarious by the way which causes an instant wake up from Bree.

Gabrielle's mom unexpectedly shows up which causes an instant awkwardness from Gabrielle's part. When Gabrielle finds out she may not be able to have children, she tells her mother who offers to be the surrogate. Gabrielle takes offense to this and throws her mother out by ambush (very remiscent to episode 1.06 "Running to Stand Still" when Gabby drove Mama Solis to a casino). She warns her mother to leave and never come back. Carlos finds out and tries to bring Lucia back. Gabby doesn't think that Lucia knows all of the details that went on before she left home since her second husband molested Gabrielle. When Carlos asks her if she had any knowledge of that, lucia says that it was consensual which caused the break-up of her marriage. Carlos gives back her bags and leaves. When he arrives home, Carlos recommends adoption.

Susan and Karl plan their secret marriage so that Susan can get her health plan. Karl warns both of them that they can't tell anyone that they are getting married. When Edie finds a wedding ring and prenuptial agreement she automatically assumes it is for her. However she the tables turn when she believes Karl is going to propose at a very expensive restaurant. As the desserts come out she digs into the souffle but finds no ring. Karl asks what exactly she is doing but Edie goes home pissed. Susan later meets Karl after dark by the side street and ask why they are doing this since it is starting to mislead people. Karl assures Susan they will be alright and that he still plans on wedding Edie. They marry the following day.

Finally, Lynette and Tom have to go into work on the weekend and Tom hires Mrs. McCluskey who Lynette instantly thinks is ancient and instead goes to ask Bree if she will babysit. Bree is still recovering from a hangover and doesn't need the Scavo spawn to make it worse which they do. This leads to Bree drinking once more and falling asleep. The Scavo twins + Penny leave and are discovered from the mom from "Family Matters". Lynette arrives at the beauty parlor and is confronted by "Harriette Winslow" who tells her that the babysitter she picked was a real winner. When Lynette gets home with the kids and Tom, Bree runs over relieved. Bree manages to fib her way out of what could have been bad and goes about her way. Later, Mrs. McCluskey tells Lynette that Bree was drunk. Lynette then asks Bree if she was drinking. Bree denies which leads Lynette to go through her trash. Lynette then lines up the bottles on Bree porch and asks if she still has a problem. Bree looks on outed and betrayed as Lynette walks back to her house.

Other important events in "Thank You So Much"...

*On the Noah/Mike storyline, Mike warns Paul Young to leave town since Noah knows what really happened to Dierdre. Paul says that if he does leave its for good. Zach then and there discovers Mike is his dad.

*People missing: The Applewhites. Not that they were missed. Sometimes an episode minus the Applewhites is well worth it. They can't be in every episode.

*Loved Maria Conchita Alonso as Lucia. I could really see the resemblance between her and Eva Longoria. I also like how Marc Cherry is bringing the housewives' parents into the storyline. First Susan's mom, now Gabby's. Who's next: Bree and Lynette. I hope!

*Plot of the week: Its a tie between Gabrielle and the Bree/Lynette story. I like the interweaving of the storylines. This is an excellent formula for the show since it worked in "One More Kiss" and certainly works in other shows such as Lost.

*Susan's wasn't too bad this week. I usually cringe at the Susan plot line even though I like Susan personally but I enjoy how she is secretly going to marry Karl. I just feel bad that they are not really thinking of their lovers i.e. Dr. Ron and Edie.

"Thank You So Much" certainly made up for last week's episode and was a fast-paced hour full of interesting stories and good dialogue. A well written episode from newcomer Dahvi Waller who is an ex-alumnus of the Rod Lurie version of Commander in Chief. I hope he continues to remain part of the writing staff since we definitely know he can write. Bravo!

this was an absolutely brilliant episode!!!

the introduction of gabrielle's hot mother was a stroke of genius!! comedic value was there (a boob job!!! briliant!!) but it was also really important finding out more about gabrielle's history

Bree getting soaked by their sprinkler system was hilarious. IT's strange to see the ever-so-lovely bree van-de-camp getting a bit wasted and then soaked was REALLY funny. she's such a good actress!!!!

tom and lynette's problem of finding a babysitter (your husband's right....the door is thin) and then "finding" their kids in the hairdressers (who i must say were a VERY funny bunch of women!!!) was really cool

the whole debacle of the wedding ring wiv susan was hysterical!!!

bree's alcohol problem looks like a goodie...i know she'll b able 2 pull it off!!!

all in all, a superb episode!!!

I know that Edie is going to find out that Karl and Susan got married and when she does, it’s not going to be pretty!!!!

Bree will be in AAA before the season is over. That woman can drink some wine!! I could not believe all the bottles Lynette took out of the garbage!!! I’m sure there were over 12 bottles. After what Gaby’s mom said, I totally understand why Gabby does not have a good relationship with her mother!!! I can’t believe her mother honestly thought her daughter wanted her husband. That is sick!!! I think how Gabby acts is a result of the assault she suffered, and I get the feeling more will come out about that. Zack now knows who his dad is, and I get the feeling he will find a way to his grandfather on his own. So the question is are Paul’s days numbered?

  • The only thing that really happens here is that we learn that Bree is an alcoholic! Well and Edie really is excited to settle down.

    "Good"
The way they show how Bree is braking down slowly and gets drunk day after day is shown nice. I mean it’s a really serious topic the show handles here. Andrew is really cool here, when he only turns on the water, when Bree lies in the front yard.

Edie is really happy when she finds the ring. I mean it somehow surprised me. Edie isn’t the settle down type, but apparently not.

Susan is still facing her surgery and gets married. Well we’ll see how that will figure out…

The things in the Solis family are serious and somehow I think that that wasn’t showed enough. I mean this is serious. Gabrielle being an abuse victim and her mother still try to hurt her and isn’t forgiving her. I think that wasn’t showed enough!

After all a good episode, but still it had some weaknesses.
  • Not the best.

The show for me is losing steam, the soap-opera show is heavy on soap-opera and the back-story’s have basically disappeared, or are going the pace of a turtle on crutches. The show still has its moments but as this episode shows, they are very few of them left anymore. Hope they pick it up some.
  • They need to pick it up.

    "Great"
Some of it was good. Some of it was not so good. And in comparison to the episode of Grey's Anatomy that aired right after it ("Yesterday") some of it wasn't good at all.

I think that they managed to move all the character arcs forward in one way or another. Even the teritary characters. Not an easy feet to accomplish in 3 episodes let alone one. Some of the storylines touched on events in my own life and pulled a little at my heartstrings. But I was more ready to get off my feet for last week's Dancing with the Stars than this episode. They can do better. I know they can. And I hope they will. Partially because I love it as a lead-in for GA but mostly because I love the show and they deserve the praise they've been given in the past.

Still this was my favorite line "I'm pulling out. Watch out for your boobs."

  • This show beats the hell out of Grey's Anatomy in every which way.

    Episode #38 - Thank You So Much - 2/19/06

On this awesome, pivotal episode of Desperate:

Susan continues through with her plans to marry her ex-husband before her surgery, so they set the date of the wedding for Wednesday, the day before her surgery. However, things turn ugly when Edie comes home and finds Karl's heirloom diamond ring and a prenup as well (the one for Susan) and suspects that he'll propose to her on Valentine's Day. She tells Susan, and when she tries to convince her that Karl is not looking to propose to her, she passes Susan off as being jealous. Of course, Karl ends up finding out later that Edie was expecting a proposal ... and decides to give her a real one ... after he divorces Susan in the fake one.

Meanwhile, Gabrielle's mother comes to visit after going through a break-up, and of course Carlos finds her "charming," but Gabby hates her mother. After a visit to the hospital, Gabrielle finds out she may not be able to give birth after what happened last year. They consider having a surrogate give birth to their child, but Carlos doesn't want something on the street doing it; so Gabrielle's mother steps in and volunteers to give birth to her own grandchild! Wanting to get rid of her mother, Gabrielle lies to her and then leaves her at a hotel.

Back at the house, she breaks down after Carlos confronts her, crying, as we find out why she ran away when she was 15 - her stepfather had sexually abused her, and she ran away because she couldn't bear her mother not believing her. Carlos tries to talk with Gabrielle's mother personally at the hotel, but she acts like a total whore (like a slut I mean) and then tells Carlos HER side of the story. She tells him that it was Gabrielle who had seduced her husband, and that there was no "rape" involved, and that is is SHE who forgives Gabby after all these years. That night, Carlos returns home and tells Gabrielle that he'd be all right with adoption ... because after that he realizes that "blood isn't everything."

Bree has a little wine with dinner and after taking her medicine, has an allergic reaction which causes her to pass out on her front lawn. Andrew uses this opportunity to taunt her and to pass rumours as well. Meanwhile, both Lynette and Tom have to work, so they have no choice but to ask Bree for help ... Bree ends up falling asleep in the job and loses the kids. She scours the suburbs trying to find them. Lynette and Tom end up getting a call from a beauty salon 3 miles away from their house, and when they get there, they get judged as being terrible parents (that's a shock).

After the get back with the kids, Bree lies and denies that she was asleep, making out the kids to be the liars. Lynette and Tom are none the wiser. However, the next day, Lynette gets the tip that Bree was drinking while babysitting and confronts her about it. Bree admits that she may have had a drink, but she turns around and blames Lynette's kids and the way they were brought up. After Lynette asks her if she has a problem, Bree storms into her house ... Lynette then goes through her trash and finds bottle after bottle of alcohol. She lines all of them up in a row and puts them on her porch - an act of a true friend who cares.

Zach wants to know more about his birth parents, and defends his right to be curious ... but Paul doesn't want to talk about them (for obvious reasons) and calls it "impolite." Noah finds out about her daughter's body being chopped up and put into the toy box by the Youngs. As an act of retaliation, he tells his guy to put Paul Young in a toy box of his own.

Delfino comes to warn Paul that Noah wants Zach, and tell him that he'll destroy everything he touches (meaning Paul of course), but what neither men known is that Zach is listening to everything. Delfino tells Paul to leave and disappear until Noah dies (which won't be long), but Paul warns him that if they do, they won't be coming back, and Mike won't ever see his "son" ever again ... Zach hears this and realizes Mike is his real father.

This show beats the hell out of Grey's Anatomy in every which way.

  • Great insight to Gabrielle's life, Zach finds out the truth and Bree gets to face reality in a fine ep.

I mentioned on the forums a while ago how we should see more of the parents of the ladies. Now, we see Gabrielle's mother and as I suspected, it answers quite a few questions about how Gabrielle turned out the way she did. At first, it seemed a battle of wills with the goofy idea of her mother being a surrogate.

However, it got much more dramatic with the scene of Carlos realizing Gabby's mother truly couldn't accept that her daughter was raped and thought it had to be her own fault which made Carlos realize that, as selfish as Gabrielle could be, she's a saint next to her mother.

It's nice to see Zach finally finding out the truth about Mike and seeing Mike and Paul on the same side was pretty cool. I look forward to how this develops.

The whole Susan/Karl/Edie thing was mostly laughs but intriguing how Karl's feelings for Edie run so deep. I also greatly enjoyed the talk between Susan and Julie, Julie letting her mother know how much she cares, once more showing how she's probably the most level-headed person on the show.

And then the key thing with Bree's drinking finally becoming evident. I enjoyed the bits of the kids on their own and the smackdown the beauty shop owner gave Lynette.

Which of course led to the Lynette/Bree scene that reminds us how close the two are. That last scene, of Bree finding a row of bottles and a note, was truly moving although, since it's Bree, Lynette may have to take more drastic measures to make her see the problem.

So an excellent ep that pushed things along on several fronts, although was surprised at the lack of the Applewhites after last week's revelations. Still, once again, the show's recovered from a weak start to the season and looks to continue the momentum.
