As Katherine unravels, revealing how much of a toll losing Mike has taken on her, Bree comes to her aid. Gabrielle grows weary of John's intentions towards her niece, and, during the second trimester of her pregnancy, Lynette's breasts become bigger. In the meantime, Susan learns Julie has been harboring some secrets, and Angie gets Porter to throw a party for her son.moreless

  • Another outstanding one

    This was another fine episode of season six. However the strange thing is there wasn't much comedy in this one. Oh sure, Bree and Katherine's cake chase and the odd lines were funny, but there was lots and lots of drama instead. This is not a complaint.
    It was nice to see the old Gabrielle and John Rowland chemistry back but it was even nicer for Gabrielle to confess to Carlos that she is truly happy and the fact John is alone speaks volumes.
    Susan is overjoyed when Julie wakes up but is far from impressed by the information revealed. Lets hope these two can patch things up soon. Lynette's boobs was another comedy moment especially the part in the restaurant and the fact Tom and Lynette reestablish their love for each other is nice.
    But its Katherine who stand out in this episode. Her slow decent into madness is well handled and when she keyed Bree's car, I could see how upset and how far she was willing to go to upset everyone else too.moreless

    An improvement on last week's disappointing effort but problems still remain. Gabrielle's story is the biggest offender, refusing to let Jesse Metcalfe and his rippling pectorals just lay down and die. No, instead, we have to endure yet another run through one of the parties regretting that they ever parted ways, trying to rekindle a long lost flame and being well and truly spurned. Look, it was old hat when it happened in season three; three years later, it really doesn't feel any fresher, and wrapping it up in Ana's storyline doesn't do anything to help matters. Metcalfe doesn't even show us so much as a cheeky nipple, for God's sake! Speaking of hotties, it is certainly good to see Shawn Pyfrom back but sadly, he's fully clothed too, and gets little more than a bit-part in the teaser sequence. You can't really blame him for wanting to distance himself from the show, given how poorly Andrew has been treated over the last few seasons, but you can't help feeling that he's one of the most interesting characters milling around. Certainly more so than bloody Katherine Mayfair, whose descent into stark-raving-lunacy is just plain embarrassing. The writers have turned her into a cipher, spewing the most extreme and ludicrous of objections to Mike and Susan's wedded bliss week in, week out, and now, as if unsatisfied by this complete and utter hammering of her character's integrity, they see fit to make her deluded enough to believe that Delfino still harbours any semblance of feeling for her whatsoever. Her dialogue is so hyperbolic and her scenes so unbelievable that she just becomes irritating, which does a great disservice to what was a markedly sophisticated and multi-layered creation only a couple of seasons ago.

    Thankfully, other aspects are better. Lynette's narrative, despite having too great a whiff of the old 'rampant male sexism' about it, actually manages to pull off a few genuinely amusing moments, - particularly the initial conversation with Carlos about the supposed implants - Bree benefits from being mostly removed from her ongoing car crash of a story with Karl and showing some genuine and quite moving compassion for her compatriot, and the ongoing mystery of the identity of Julie's attacker takes some genuinely interesting twists and turns as first Susan learns a few choice facts about her daughter's recent activities and then we discover that Larry Moss is the mystery man with whom she has been having an illicit affair... which, to be honest, became obvious the moment Pyfrom mentioned that the guy was married, but still, at least they're doing something interesting with a character that we really know far too little about. Quite a few shafts of light then, but not enough to completely pierce the encroaching darkness. Housewives, you're not out of the dog house yet.moreless

    Susan presses Julie for info on some of her secrets. I can understand Susan's frustration and determindedness to find Julie's attacker, so her daughter's stubborn attitude (someone made an attempt on her life!) made no sense to me- no matter how racy the secret. There was the whole business about the mysterious "D" in the diary- her lover (who uses initials their diary?) that was meant only to throw the audience. It turned out to be Nick, or Dominic- the new neighbor next door! Gasp! I was disappointed in how lame this plot was.

    The possibility John dating Ana was too much for Gaby to handle and the plot was sort of fun in that 'resurfacing awkward memories' sort of way. Of course the gardener can now provide for Gaby and I liked that Gabrielle got to do some reflecting on her life. She made the right decision in the end, and as I said last week, seeing John again was a nice trip down memory lane. Let's hope this isn't the last from him. (He always was persistent)

    Lynette's boobs are getting bigger. This was a one-joke plotline that left a lot to be desired. Is this the best they can do for her? Really? They even recycled the exact same 'impress the clients at dinner' angle they just did last week! The good news is, I like boobs and I like Lynette, so the combo wasn't a complete waste. The initial misunderstanding with Carlos over the implants was the single funnest exchange I've seen all season!

    Katherine is losing her screws over the loss of Mike and Bree is struggling to stay objective over the matter. Delany is so good she is genuinely starting to freak me out! It's equal parts funny, sad, and kind of disturbing, and I only get the feeling they will push this concept further as the story goes along. There was some intriguing stuff here this evening and I wish we got a bit more of it.moreless

  • This Season is shaping up to be as good as Season 4!

    I'm giving this episode a 10 this week because I genuinly thought it perfect in every respect, with just the right amounts of comedy equalled with drama.

    Funniest moments for me included Katherine's reaction over the wedding cake: It didn't dawn on me that she may have designed it for her and Mike when Bree saw it in her office. That, and Celia and Juanita's discovery of the condoms - I love those two kids!

    This week's storylines were both interesting and entertaining. Susan's discovery of her less than perfect daughter. I love how her storylines are focused on Julie, makes a change from just a man that's in her life.

    Bree's affair with Karl put on the back burner and her friendship with Katherine brought to the forefront again this week. Nice that it's just focused on her and Karl every week.

    Again, a refreshing side to Lynette's storyline this week. Instead of focusing on the negative thoughts of two more additions to the family, they focused on a COMICAL two additions to the family, but on her chest. Very funny moments around this storyline, and good play on words etc. "You know about the twins!?"

    The Bolens. I LOVE the mystery this season so far. Season 4's mystery was good because they had a small clue in every episode, a small piece to the puzzle. Season 5's was weak - you knew from the get go Dave was plotting revenge. But with this family, there's an 'explosion'? Name changes, and scars? I guessed Julie was sleeping with Nick but I totally forgot about the name changes and thought the Dominic thing was very clever. Is Julie perhaps tied in with the mystery if she slept with Nick under his old name of Dominic?

    The best storyline for me though was Katherine - her hilarious breakdown but her sassy ice queen character of Season 4 is back! LOVED the scene at the end. I thought she was going to throw her keys at Bree, not scratch it along the car. Love her.

    Great episode. Shaping up to be a hell of a season!moreless

    So, when can we expect the good episodes of this show to start? We're already deep into this season and things are just not as good as they were last year, or the year before, or the year before...you get the idea.

    There certainly were some funny moments, but I just am not excited about anything going on right now. Were we supposed to be surprised when it was "revealed" that Dominic was seeing Julie, something clearly hinted at during the season premiere? Are we supposed to think this is the end of John? Are we supposed to think this new family is any different than all the past families that moved in for one season and then left? Give us something to get excited about Desperate Housewives.moreless
