  • 5 years into the future..Susan is sleeping with a new man, Jackson. Lynette is now dealing with the antics of two teenage boys, while Gabrielle is wrangling two daughters. And Bree is now a cookbook author while Katherine is her employee.

I really enjoyed this season premiere! I don't think I've been THIS excited about the show in a long, long time. The beginning was VERY intense in my opinion, and Teri Hatcher did a wonderful job! The Bree/Katherine interaction was really good...I wasn't a big fan of Bree's enlarged ego! However, the flashback scene where Danielle took Benjamin back was quite sad. Lynette dealing with two teens was hilarious! Tom really annoyed me with the way he was handling things, until the end. I must say that his kicking off the mirror to his car was pretty funny. Gabrielle as a mother...I think it was done quite well to be honest. Not sure if it's entirely grown on me yet, but we'll see. Overall a GREAT episode and I can't wait to see what happens next!
  • The 5th Season Begins With The Housewives As Their Lives Are Changed Forever After The Five Year Time Jump.

    9.5
    "Superb"
This is a very good way to start the season. The time jump was a very good idea from the writers since it gives the show new opportunities. The opening scene worked very well since the stories of Susan and Lila came together in a very clever way. Casting Neal McDonough was a great move from the writers. The other reason why I loved this season opener was the fact that many things happened and the plot developed. Lynette's and Tom's storyline was strong and I my interest never wavered. Gaby's and Carlos's plot was excellent because we see the other side of them as they have now two kids. Bree's and Katherine's catering plot was very good and entertaining. I laughed so hard when Katherine ambushed Bree in TV. Just go see it. Marcia Cross is the most beautiful woman in the world. The best scenes was Bree's and Katherine's scenes and Tom's and Lynette's scenes with their kids. James Denton delivered a powerful and convincing performance in the flashback scene at Susan's house. The worst part of this episode was Susan's and Jackson's storyline. I hope they break up and Mike returns. I hope.

Unfortunatly change isnt always a good and that is certianly true with desperate housewives, i do believe that the five year jump was a mistake on the writers behalf it takes us out of the characters lives i mean for 4 years we have been on the journey with theses chacracters but now we have been removed from this journey to find gabriells is a mother of two, mike and susan are divorced edie is married to a creey white haired man, bree is a high powerd business women and lynettes children are older and even more annoying....

This was an ok episode but i am totally agianest the five year jump and this epsidoe hasnt chnaged my mind..
  • An amazing start to an amazing new season...

    9.5
    "Superb"
To be honest, I wasn't expecting this five year leap to work very well - although I was excited to see how each character would be portrayed, I wasn't really sure if the show would have the same chemistry as it did from the the other seasons, or if it would be as well written as other episodes. Clearly, in my opinion, i was very wrong, as this episode works very well! The characters of Susan and Gabrielle are very different, in some ways better, in other ways worse - but it works very well. It's good to see that Bree has become a professional chef - which I always thought she would become one day; on national television. The characters of Edie and Lynette have also changed, but not as dramatically as Gabby and Susan - Lynette into a fully-fledged mother, struggling with delinquent teenage boys, and as for Edie - she's nicer, in some ways... Maybe having Dave as a husband has changed her - although he's very strange in a way as well... As for Katherine, I was a little disappointed in the way her character has turned out - I thought she would have a better storyline, now that she's accepted in the "Housewive" group... Summarising, very well written episode, hoping for a good season...

Edie: "Gaby, I have to ask … what the hell happened to you? Look at you. Your clothes, your hair. Carlos might be blind but the rest of us aren't".

    Gabrielle: "I had two children".

    Edie: "For what … breakfast?"

Last season this show ended by jumping five years into the future and we've had to wait months to see whether or not this particular risk actually paid. To be fair, we'll probably need to see the whole season to really tell but this episode seemed to be a good start.

I'm not really sure which storyline to tackle first so I'll go with the least interesting one, which unfortunately is Lynette's. Last year this woman was battling cancer and trying to get on with mother and raising the antichrist formerly known as Kayla, this season it looks like Porter and Preston are her main woes.

As kids these two were never the brightest of the bunch. Prime example of their stupidity included Kayla being able to trick one of them into jumping off a roof. As teenagers, there's definitely no improvement with them either with twins Max and Charlie Carver not making the twins any less annoying than they used to be.

Of course as teenagers, Porter and Preston have sort of upped their game in driving Lynette to near insanity. Their little act of terror for the premiere involves the two of them using the Scavo restaurant as a place for illegal gambling.

Needless to say, Lynette's pretty furious with the whole thing and tries to get Tom to enforce further discipline on them. I thought it had been more than established that when it comes to this marriage, Lynette was the judge, jury and executioner. Trying to get Tom to actually back her up predictably goes arseways.

Instead of laying down the law, Tom actually finds Porter and Preston's little gambling stunt a source of coolness. Without sounding like a stick in the mud but I did side with Lynette on this one. Not entirely because she's right but mainly because Tom does come across as being a bit sad for trying to see the cool factor in his sons activities.

The cool factor is also something that Lynette herself picked up on and it was also something she royally busted Tom's chops for. So if Tom is thinking that his kids high spirited stunts are something to be admired, does that mean he's going through a mid-life crisis or is he desperate to live through his sons rebellious behaviour?

Then again it could be Lynette overreacting to things, which let's face it, isn't a rarity. Also Lynette might sulk about Tom not backing her up and ungrounding the lads so they can go to their homecoming but she does get her own back by allowing them to use Tom's car, much to his chagrin.

In fact the car became such a sore point that it snapped Tom into grounding Porter and Preston when they returned late from homecoming. Although Tom will always sort of redeem himself in the end by taking Lynette's side, it might be just nice if every once in a while, Lynette didn't have to resort to something in order to get Tom's co-operation.

However on a serious note, I really hope that Lynette's plots this season do not primarily revolve around her kids, seeing as Gabby is now taking that one as well. It would be nice for the writers to explore her and Tom's marriage and hopefully see her get a career outside the Scavo restaurant as well.

Speaking of careers, it's nice that Bree finally decided to get off her ass and actually pursue one. Okay so we really have to thank Katherine's little spot of blackmail last season for that but even still, I like where this arc could go. Last season ended with her scoring a book deal and had Andrew all suited up as her manager.

With this episode the book is out and publicity is the name of the game. Katherine's wry little comment about Bree's posing abilities is dead on the mark. There's nothing more hilarious than seeing Bree trying to suppress her annoyance at a patronising photographer but he's the least of her troubles.

I think when you go into business with someone; it usually pays to give them the credit they deserve. I say this because as irritating as Katherine can be, her fury at Bree is more than justified. It was Katherine after all who forced Bree's hand into the catering business, so Bree really shouldn't piss her off.

However Bree's gratitude towards Katherine only seemed to go as far as mentioning her name in the book and not crediting her for half the recipes she came up with. Now, there is no housewife on this show that can be accused of being a doormat and to be honest, it wouldn't be fun if Katherine didn't try her hand at some form of revenge, now would it?

The revenge in question that Katherine chose was a little public humiliation. Forcing Bree to make a dessert that she knew well Bree couldn't make would've been cruel if Bree hadn't been so smug regarding Katherine's complaints. Bree however did seem to learn a lesson after nearly burning a reporter and even tried to learn to make the recipe from scratch later on.

One thing that has become apparent in the last five years is that Bree has adopted a career comes first mentality and given how single minded Bree can be; this is something that is both good and bad. When Orson mentioned that her catering was her baby, I got the impression that he wasn't entirely thrilled about the idea.

In flashbacks, Danielle made a speedy return to snatch Benjamin away from Bree while Orson was in jail. While Danielle's actions might have seemed cruel, all I kept thinking was 'how did Bree not see this coming?' Danielle displayed doubts when giving up Benjamin in "Now I Know, Don't Be Scared" and her comment about Bree not giving her a choice given the fake pregnancy crap that Bree pulled.

Flashbacks do seem to form a vital part of this opening episode and to be honest; it's obvious that the writers have barely scratched the surface of what happened during the majority of "Free" and what has now come to pass here. After all, what the hell happened that would make Susan and Mike split up?

I was absolutely hoping the writers wouldn't go down the adultery route or even have Mike relapse and clearly they listened. After all, something pretty mega would have to happen for a couple as seemingly meant to be as Susan and Mike to end and a car crash that resulted in the death of Lila and her daughter would just be it.

The crash had to impact Susan and Mike's relationship and weirdly enough, I could see both sides of the story. I don't think Mike is an unfeeling person but I can see why he would rationally think that perhaps Susan shouldn't feel so guilty. Although it doesn't excuse anything, the car crash was a horrible accident.

However Susan laying it on the line about a mother and a child being killed did hit home, mainly because I recently lost my own mother (though nothing to do with car accidents). I often don't credit Teri Hatcher with the dramatic but I have to admit she was pretty good during the flashbacks.

Then there's the present day – her and Mike are separated but on the plus side, they're also on civil terms with one another. Maybe Susan is learning a lesson from the way her and Karl used to behave around each other with Julie but more than likely, it's the writers telling us that the two of them aren't done as a couple.

However for the time being they are as while she might not be keen to tell everyone else about her man, she does at least tell Mike. Then again with MJ (a moniker for Maynard) around, perhaps it's wise that Susan told Mike about boy toy Jackson. Plus Mike's reaction was fairly mature as well.

Getting back to the new man, I'll admit that I find Gale Harold pretty cute (though I wasn't a fan of Brian from Queer As Folk US) but Jackson is debatable as boyfriend. He's not drippy like Dr Ron or Ian but at the same time, I'm not entire sold on him either as a character.

The only thing we really seem to know is that he's a painter, madly into Susan and desperate for their relationship to be public knowledge. Susan on the other hand is keener on the friends with benefits dynamics and is trying to deny herself happiness because she still feels rotten about Lila's death. It's noble for Susan to feel the way she does but if I have to hear Jackson do karaoke anymore, I think I'll out their relationship just so my eardrums don't suffer.

On a plus side I've also gone through a season premiere where Gabby's storyline has become interesting. At first I thought the writers were going to rehash Lynette's Season One via Gabby but so far it looks like they're going a slightly different route with this one.

Gabby's oldest daughter Juanita is generating gossip because of her weight and for someone as deeply superficial as Gabby (in spite of her now dowdy appearance); this is a big sting to the ego. Bad enough having shop assistants commenting on your child's weight without the annoying mums at a princess party joining in as well.

It also doesn't help that Carlos is unable to see the serious of it as well. The thing is Gabby actually has a point and child obesity is becoming a serious and more ever present issue nowadays so while I don't condone Gabby's ridiculous car game to get her daughter to exercise, I do think she is in the right about this.

Gabby's descent into looking dowdy may not be something that her friends are commenting on but Edie isn't shy in telling Gabby how crappy she looks. I was absolutely looking forward to the return of Edie in this episode and I wasn't disappointed.

Even better is that her creepy motivational speaker husband Dave seems to be the main mystery this season, which should mean that Edie should get more screen time to boot. I'm not exactly which resident Dave is after but given that he has the psychotic thing down to a tee, it'll be interesting to see which resident on Wisteria Lane messed him around.

Also in "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow"

This was the first episode since the "Pilot" that didn't do a "Previously On" bit.

Photographer (to Bree): "I'd think you'd sell more cookbooks if you don't look like you've just made love to an ice cube".

In flashbacks we got to see both Susan and Lila at different points prior to their fatal crash. Any chance that Dave could've been Lila's former spouse?

Bree: "Andrew do we have a backup pie?"

    Andrew: "Yes, yes we do".

    Bree: "Good".

Susan (to Jackson): "You're a guy and we just had sex and I didn't force you to cuddle, so go brag to your friends".

Bob and Lee briefly appeared in this episode and the latter took a photo of a semi-naked Jackson.

Edie (re Roger): "He came into some money and decided to move. So we thought, what the heck, let's move back!"

    Gabrielle: "We?"

Edie: "Oh, you don't know. I have a husband now".

    Susan: "Really? Whose?"

Dave: "Now, shouldn't we offer your friends something to eat?"

Edie: "Oh I baked some muffins".

Lynette (to Dave): "Please don't take this the wrong way, but we love you".

What exactly did Dave say to get Roger to move out of the house? Prior to that it looked like Dave was going to use physical violence to remove the man.

Carlos (re Juanita): "I know she's gotten a little chubby but she'll grow out of it".

Gabrielle: "I hope so with your gene pool running through her veins".

Katherine: "Bree, your book is full of recipes that we developed together and some of them are flat out mine!"

Bree: "Oh, don't be silly. I may have based a few on your recipes but I always change something".

    Katherine: "Like what, the font?"

Notably enough, Katherine and Edie are the only housewives not to have gotten flashbacks during the premiere episode.

Carlos (re Juanita): "Even if she's heavy, doesn't she have to feel good about herself?"

    Gabrielle: "I am protecting her".

Tom (re his car): "I can't believe you did that to me".

Lynette: "I know that car's your baby. If only I had something to feel that intensely about. Oh wait, my actual kids".

Tom's uncool past reared its head up again. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that Tom was such a nerd in school.

Edie (to Lynette/Susan/Bree/Gabrielle): "You froze me out. You threatened to ruin my business and then you ran me out of town. Now it's taken me five years for me to stop hating you. The least you can do is show some respect".

Bree (re Benjamin): "For God's sake, Orson's is gone, you're all grown up. He's all I have left".

Danielle: "You need to find something else".

It was a bit strange that Karen introduced herself as Edie's best friend to Dave? Edie's only real friend on this show was Martha Huber and she's long dead.

Dave: "I've never been a danger to myself and as for the others, there's only one person who should be worried".

No Julie, Parker, Penny or Dylan in this episode.

"You're Gonna Love Tomorrow" isn't my favourite opening episode that this show has done but I admire its confidence and once again it succeeds in setting up the main mystery and overall tone for the season.
  • Five Years Gone...

    9.0
    "Superb"
It seems five is the magic number this year - season five, five years in the future, OK six housewives now but you get the drift. A very informative season premiere that has completely revamped the show but except for one thing...There is still a mystery this year that unfortunately doesnt have the same effect as the other mysteries of recent years. This premiere was really good, however something was missing which stopped me giving this a ten. Last season's premiere was IMO the best premiere and this one failed to top it. I stilled enjoyed seeing the twins all grown up still causing mischief, Bree and Andrew working together, Gabrielle as a mum and Orson and Bree reunited but the best bit was when Susan was staring outside and then Mike appeared cos I thought he was dead and then they waved at each other and he came inside and I was like Oh he is alive! Then why the hel arent they together but it was soon revealed. And check out Dave huh, who should be afraid of him? Although it sounds similar to the reason Mike came to Wisteria Lane back in Season 1...
  • I loved thi episode.

    "Perfect"
after quite a good finale for the 4th season...what really grabbed my attention was the greatest cliffhanger ever...the fast forward 5 years in time.

it is the most daring thing this show has ever doen...yet You're Gonna Love Tomorrow really pulls it off and remained perfect viewing throughout.

easily the best season opener the show has ever undergone since the shows pilot episode in the first season.

this episode is by far the most intriguing to date...a feeling i think that has been missing sinse the Applewhite mystery of season 2.

this time round our mystery is a combination of the five years that have passed, Edie(shes back!!! yay!),and her mysterious new husband....who presumably has psychotic intentions.

i feel the housewives acting talents have kicked up a few gears too.

Bree and Katherine begin yet another rivalry(yay),Gaby and Carlos have some traumas of their own...their daughter...and Eve Longoria Parker just stole it, Lynette and Tom must cope with the now pubescent twins ordeals...with a hysterical effect.

and our dear Susan has suffered quite an ordeal...a particularly graphic car crash and a sever loss that has changed her life forever and now is finding it hard to commit to a new relationship with her new painter(poor girl).

    this is Desperate Housewives perfection.

bring on the next 23 episodes.
  • Refreshing start to a new Season

I loved every minute of this episode. To see the ladies five years in the future was a great move and the show feels refreshed and positive more than ever.

The ladies have certainly changed: Bree is a successful woman with her cookery - but is the world of fame all its cracked up to be? Not when it means insulting your friends and becoming too intense.

Susan has changed too. No longer is she the clutz of season one (though this does still remain) she has a secret man in her life now. Its great to see Teri Hatcher perform some dirty laundry for once.

Lynette's kids are now grown up - well sort of! And her husband is going through a mid-life thingy. Loved the bit when he kicked the mirror "It was scratched anyway a new one is on order". And Gabby - isn't so glamourous anymore. But I still love you Eva. its always nice to see beautiful actresses in not so beautiful roles.

And Edie is back - and better than ever. A changed woman? Perhaps. But her husband is creepy and manipulative and I wonder what he's up to....
  • We learn of some what happened in the missing 5 years

In this episode of Desperate Housewives the following happens. We open with a car accident, with both Susan and Mike and another woman and her child are involved. At this point we are unsure if Mike lived or died but at the end of the episode we learn that he survived and that the other car, the mother and daughter had both died. As the show jumps 5 years a lot of things have changed. Lynette's twin boys have now changed into young men. Gaby now has 2 children, and has really let herself go. Susan is no longer with Mike but is in fact sleeping with someone else. Eddie has just moved back, with her new husband. Bree is now a successful business woman. We learn that Gabby's children are overweight and until recently she was oblivious to it. We also learn that Danielle came back and took Benjamin from Bree. We learn that she is married to a lawyer named Leo. Mike learns about Susan's new man and he is happy for her. We learn that Dave, Eddie husband, has to check in with his doctor once a month and he was released over a year ago.
  • It's five years later, and the ladies of Wisteria Lane have new lives!

    9.5
    "Superb"
Okay, first of all, although it was a great episode, I feel it was a bit disappointing, but that's probably because I already knew most of what was going to happen because of spoilers. I expect the next few episodes to be even better because I am not that aware of what's next in store for the housewives. Now that I've gotten a brand new fix of DH, I can quit the spoilers that kept me going through the Summer. Also, Mrs. McCluskey was underused, as well as Bob and Lee, Andrew, Celia and Mike. And Parker and Penny weren't even there, and there was no mention of Julie. That sucked!

Susan: I liked her story. It's saddening that she killed a mother and her child. It's really sad. And Mike didn't even seem to care all that much. I mean, of course he cared, but it wasn't their fault and he was probably tired of hearing Susan b*tch about it. I like Jackson, and Maynard is really cute. Oh, by the way, it's MJ now, so we won't have to hear that awful name of his that much.

Lynette: Her storyline was funny, too. Dealing with wild twin sons and a nerdy husband who thinks they're so cool must be really tough. I liked how Tom handled them in the end. I just feel disappointed that we didn't get to see grown-up Parker and Penny in this episode. What was up with that?

Bree and Katherine: Wow, Bree has turned into quite a b*tch, huh? Poor Katherine, having her supposed partner and friend undershadow her like that. I liked that whole online dessert making thing, it was hilarious. Way to go, Kathy! Orson was also underused in this episode, as well as Andrew. I thought we were gonna learn how Bree and Orson got back together. But we do know that Danielle took Benjamin, and landed herself a husband. Poor Bree, Danielle really shouldn't had done that, even if he was her biological son.

Gabrielle: I feel sorry for her, too. Juanita and Celia are adorable, but it must suck to have everyone talking about your fat children. Carlos and Gaby were in denial, but now they aren't anymore, and they must do something about it. Juanita is one clever brat, huh? Taking the bus, that was both genius and funny. Celia didn't even have any lines, that's a shame. Did Juanita eat the cake's candles?

Edie: That entrance was spectacular, and I'm glad to see a whole new Edie. Hah, she thought it was a "we're sorry" party, when it was really a "we forgive you" party. Poor Edie... Her husband scares me... Who is he after?

Overall, great episode, with a bit crappy narrations by Mary Alice, who usually gives such wonderful voiceovers. Lots of characters were underused, but I get that the cast is huge and they wanted to focus on the housewives and their new lives, so there really wasn't much time for the supporting characters. Way to go, DH!
  • SO excited that the new season has started but I am sad to see Mike and Susan apart.

    9.5

Omg, I started freaking out when we saw the accident and she saw Mike and I thought he was dead!!!! Omg, what a relief it was to see him picking up MJ.. For a minute there I thought she was daydreaming and thinking about him.... Phew! I can't believe he left her though.... That's no fair.... They better bring them back together... And what about Edie's husband.... OMG, I wonder who it is he's after....

I loved the new Scavo kids... Too funny.... Lynette and Tom are great as always....

Gaby's new life is really sad... I can't believe she let herself go like that... Even Lynette with a whole bunch more kids doesn't look that bad.... And that was really mean what she did to that little girl....

Am I the only one who thinks it's weird that Bree has gone back to her old name, Van De Kamp???? I thought her and Orson were back together.... Weird.... I liked that Danielle took responsability for the baby though... I guess that means she's not gone... It was sad to see Bree like that though....

Andrew looks good. I'm glad they didn't get rid of him. And where's Julie? Maybe we'll see her soon. You know, it seems weird to me that Adam is not around... I kinda took it as if he would take Katherine back when he found out everything and went back to save her. Oh well, maybe they'll bring him back on soon...

Loved seeing Mrs. McClusky, and the gay couple too.....

Scavo boys were too funny... But I missed the little kids... We'll see what happens...

All in all, it was a really good episode. Can't wait til next week!!!!!!
  • Promising premiere that kicks off a hopefully fabulous season.

    "Great"
It's been five years since Susan Mayer gave birth to little MJ and a lot has happened since. Susan and Mike split up, Lynette's children are all grown up, Gaby's lost her glamour and her popularity, Bree has started up a catering business with Katherine and last but not least... She's baaaaack!

First of all, the season kicked off perfectly with the tale about Susan and the other mom, finally meeting eachother after so many almost-meetings. Not really nice how they acted like Mike died, but I guess this was kinda necessary to shake things up.

The Scavo twins were introduced perfectly, but I missed the other two Scavo children. Tom and his car were just hilarious.

Bree was great, but I felt sorry for Katherine... but her revenge was sweeter then it ever was!

The Solis's must have changed the most. Not only has Gaby put on some pounds and has Carlos grown some grey hairs, there are two children now too! Juanita is just great and the part with her running after the car was hilarious. I understand why Ricardo Chavira was quite apprehensive about the whole overweight thing, but I think the writers handled it with much respect for the children, but for all overweight people in the world.

And Edie's back! And she married quite a freak, I tell you. How Dave got the old man out of Edie's house, just... freaky.

Neal McDonough is a great addition the cast (Gale Harold on the contrary to my opinion) and I feel he has an interesting story coming up. It might take a while to get adjusted to the new situation on Wisteria Lane, but this episode really convinced me to give it a try.
  • Fifth Season airs as we find out what happened to the characters five years later. Starring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Evan Longoria Parker, Nicollette Sheridan, Ricardo Antonio Chavira, Doug Savant, Kyle MacLaghlan, Dana Delaney + more

The fifth season premiere and a five year jump for ABC's hit series. Desperate Housewives came into the fifth season possibly not going to get as good of a hit as they could've providing a five year future jump in the series. However, i really enjoyed this five year jump. I don't like that Susan (Teri Hatcher) and Mike (James Denton) are not married anymore, but the way they split was really dramatic and well done. I do not really like Jackson (guest star Gale Harold), and think that they could've cast somebody better. Porter Scavo (Charlie Carver) and Preston Scavo (Max Carver), i think could not have been better charcters to be on the show, as they will add future drama, and the show needed some teenage males, having already Julie Mayer (former star Andrea Bowen) and other teenage girls. This was a really great episode and i cant wait for more episodes this season.
  • Skipping five years turned out to be a good move

    9.0
    "Superb"
I'm really glad they skipped five years. They were running out of storylines and they needed a way to start over fresh. Gabby's storyline with the overweight kids is great. At first I could not understand how she would have fat kids but it could realistically happen. Some people are saying that she would never have let them put on so much weight but it can be hard to put your foot down. On that note, it was great to see Tom finally put his foot down with the twins. I also thought it was so funny that he was so obsessed with his car. Bree and Katherine were also entertaining, although I hope they clear up what exactly happened with Orson and Danielle. I was also confused about what was going on with Susan during the episode. I was convinced Mike was dead for most of the episode, which I guess made it more emotional. Anyway, it was still sad that Susan killed someone and could not get over it. It should be interesting to see how she decides to handle it, loved how she was trying to get over it this episode. As much as I love Mike and Susan as a couple, I am glad things didn't work out. If they ended up happy and together things would have been boring and something would have been missing. The new mystery looks good to, and I love Edie's return.
  • Who says changes are bad? The season premiere for the fifth Desperate Housewives installment is anything but bad

    8.5
    "Great"
By now, we are all-aware that the five-year jump in the fourth season finale was not a joke, neither is the idea (refer to One Tree Hill for the deja-vu all over again). As true as the idea is a precarious one, it also gives room to new grounds, new rules and palpable excitement. Thanks to the writers, the season premiere exploits these elements just cleverly and tentatively ensures that the idea is not turned into a quagmire (for now).

The five-year leap catches our housewives in their aging syndromes. Once wishing for her kids to get older and wiser, Lynette sees that sixteen is not an age for wishful thinking. Losing her grandchild to her daughter, Bree diverts her attention to business and becomes stiff, so much that a cat fight with Katherine (aka. the business partner) is at the door. Susan, on the other hand, flirts with her painter, not to leaven her youth, but to quash her relapse to painful memories. Gabrielle abdicates her peagent throne and employs a new housewife image with two kids to control and a husband to stand by. And Edie returns to town in the company of her husband who carries a big smile on his face and a bag of secrets.

Season premiere is hardly the best Desperate Housewives episode (or even the premiere to speculate) but it promises a sound season. Those who got dissappointed should revise it as a transition episode. People like me who enjoyed it to a great extent should doff their hat for the bold move by the writers.
  • ... definitely the bravest thing you can do on television.

Ah the season started really good. I am excited to see what happens next. It is a very brave thing what they did. To change all the characters' lives, to move on 5 years fast forward. It is something never done before and it is definitely the bravest thing you can do on television. It is as if it is almost a different show. The challenges are different the character development is not what expected. Everything starts all over. It is almost like an alternate reality. Maybe next season they will go back again 5 years. Who knows? But for now ... The audience will either love it or absolutely hate it. I am one of those who do not take change very well. Moreover, I am certainly upset with Gabrielle's life. It is NOT what she would ever become. It is just not realistic. It is funny and yes ok it is plausible. Many women have seen their life turn to s*** like this. But Gaby's character was NOT presented like that. And even if we accept that this is a plausible scenario, how in earth do you explain this disgusting child? She would NEVER do this to her kid. NEVER. I'm sure everyone hates new Gabrielle and the horrible kid, but I am sure there is a catch to all that. It just cannot stay like his. Then we have the Susan story. (oh by the way I LOVED the choice of the new boyfriend. Gale Harold is a favourite of mine. I used to watch him religiously on Queer As Folk ;) But, oh the Susan stories … Oh the nagging Susan!!! Always annoying. Always adorable. Always makes a big deal out of everything. Always a b*** breaker. Always funny. And always ends up miserable and alone. However, ladies and … well … some gentlemen … despite ALL that … yes … I LOVED the season's prelude! I can't put my finger to it. Even though there are many things that made me sad or annoyed me or just didn't fit, I still loved every minute of it!!! I can't explain it. I think it is the excitement that all those changes bring along with oh so many questions. This gigantic leap into the future brings so many mixed feelings. Yes, the season premiere was overwhelming. Annoying. Terrible. Lovely. Funny. And a little scary ;) I LOVED it!!!

Let me just start off by saying that all things considered, I absolutely loved this episode. It was everything that I was hoping that it would be and more. This was a great way to start off the fifth season. All of the housewives story lines look great, especially Susan's and Lynette's which are my two most favorite story lines so far for the fifth season. The Bree and Katherine story line is great too. Their interactions in this episode were absolutely priceless. I'm so excited that Gale Harold is playing Susan's new love interest, Jackson, since I've been a huge fan of Gale Harold for years. I loved the scene where Jackson sings in front of everyone at Scavo's Pizzeria in order to get Susan's attention. That scene was hilarious! I love the new direction that they're taking Susan in as a character. I'm actually really starting to like her an awful lot now. Truth be told, I'm not one bit upset about Susan and Mike breaking up since I never really liked them as a couple to begin with. I love the actors that are now playing the Scavo twins. I loved the scene where Edie returns to Wisteria Lane. Her new husband, Dave, is absolutely creepy, but I can't wait to find out what the whole mystery with him is. In closing, I thought that this was a very well written, well acted and well made episode of Desperate Housewives from everyone involved, and I can't to wait to see the next episode.
  • Loved it, but DH can do a lot better!

The premiere was great. I really loved it. But I expected a bit more. I don't know... Maybe a few more funny jokes would be ok. It was cool when Edie says she has a husband now and Susan says: "Whose?" Lol! And when Gabrielle said that she had two children and then Edie asks her: "For what? Breakfast?" Lol!

We have a great mystery this season. Seems like it's about Edie's husband. I'm wondering who is it that he hates so much!

And it really didn't feel like they've "skipped" five years. It was kind of normal. I'm so sad because Susan and Mike separated because of that car crash. Susan is so stupid! She yelled at him because he didn't smack his head a couple of times in the wall because of that accident. He said he feels sorry for that women and the child but seems like Susan wanted more sorriness. :)
  • It was a pretty good season premier...I mean it was no "Heroes" but still pretty good..On sencond thought.. it was pretty awesome.

If you ask me Katherine Mayfair(Delany) has always been jealolus in someway of Bree (Cross)..its a little sad really but still funny when she let Bree crash and burn on that sugar incident. Everyone being aged five years made a few people heavier and a little more grey. Carlos and Orsen are a bit on the grey side but Mike is still kinda hot so it doesn't matter. I almost can't believe Susan was hiding that man candy after Mike left her was crazy! I know she still loves him and Maynard (Mike's & Susan's son) was sooooo cute I couldn't stand it. ^_^ Gabbie made Juanita run after the car after she basically killed most of a sheet cake. She isn't failing as a mother really, its more like she not knowing how to subtly change her diet or something like that. It was hilarious how the ladies saw the change/reacted to Edie's behavior when Dave (new hubby) brought her back after buying her house back from an old man in the middle of the night after threating him. That's not a warning sign at all...I also noticed that some people that I have grown to like were not there but its nice to know that Danielle snatched her baby from her mom when she married a lawyer which is fine except how Bree was begging for her not to take the kid away from her because she felt it was all she had. On second thought it was pretty damn great and I can't wait for the next episode.
  • Totally out of character because the characters are all different...

    "Good"
Not what I expected but it's a start to a long season of things to come, some of the changes to the characters are good and one involving Susan is really a dramtic change that I wish they didn't do because the new guy she is dating isn't cute at all and looks like a stick figure so maybe if she was dating someone half as decent as Mike then I might of approved of all the changes they have made to the show but so far so good, this should be fun to see how long Susan and Mike stay apart and whats in store for Eddie's Husband on Westeria Lane.

I thought that Desperate Housewives was progressing at a fine speed last season, but apparently the show's producers felt a change was needed and boy did we get one.

Lynette's kids are now 16 (weren't they only like 8 before?), Susan and Mike are divorced and Gabrielle has kids. I like this storyline for Susan as Teri Hatcher was growing tiresome as the clutz of the neighborhood, but now we see her in a more traditional, emotional struggle. Felicity Huffman did a good job with the role and we should see some entertainment between her and Doug Savant over the first few episodes.

I don't really like this storyline for Gabrielle. She's still funny, but it's just such a massive change of pace and I'm sure if it will work out so well.

Neal McDonough was an excellent addition to the cast and his character is very compelling.

I'll give it some more time but as of right now I don't really like this time jump.
  • An insight into how life has changed five years later on Wisteria Lane.

    10
    "Perfect"
This episode completely refreshed the whole series - even though the show wasn't getting boring anyway but it feels nice to have a breath of fresh air. I really admire that the writers decided to do this jump as it was quite risky and I was slightly worried about how it would work out but everything has turned out just fine.

All of the women of Wisteria Lane are still familiar and equally likeable although each one of them has changed.

Susan's life has completely turned around as she is now divorced (or separated) and is having fun with her painter. This feels slightly reminiscent of Gaby's affair with her gardener as Susan doesn't want people to know about this relationship but what makes it special is that Susan doesn't seem capable or willing to involve herself in a new relationship after the apparent love of her life has left her.

Bree and Katherine who had become great friends by the end of season 4 now have a rivalry going on as Bree hogs the spotlight of their catering business. This is quite interesting as both actresses play off each other friendly and these scenes are really fun to watch.

Lynette is still having trouble with her kids who are now older and it will be fun to see her struggle with teenagers. It's also great to see that both Lynette and Tom are still together as they are the couple on DH that get through both the good and bad times. Felicity Huffman being fantastic is a pleasure to watch.

Edie (who I was worried wouldn't come back for season 5 but due to the 5 year jump thank god she's back) is still here and up to no good. Her reactions to how the other women have changed are very funny and are a rude version of what us as the viewer has seen. There is a sense of mystery around her and her husband as she is silenced and made polite by her husband. Has Edie confromed with traditional ideologies of what a housewife should be like, or is there something they're not telling us (i'm guessing it's the latter).

Gaby is the character that in my opinion has changed the most. She now has two kids and her beauty has slightly faded. It is great seeing over confident Gaby change into a Gaby the feels insecure. Eva Longoria has coped with this change well, and is still hilarious but also has much greater emotional depth as she realizes that she can't be beautiful forever.

This episode was filled with great moments that brought us up to date with what (or almost) has happened on Wisteria Lane and as always DH has ended with a great ending - Edie's husband seems to be keen on getting revenge on one of the people living on Wisteria Lane. The question is who? This is what I love about Desperate Housewives - it is a great dramedy that involves you into it's story, characters and world that truly pulls you in and you just can't stop thinking about what happened last episode that you just wanna see the next one straight away.
  • I'm hoping it's a dream sequence but I know it's not.

For crying out loud why can't they ever let Susan be happy! She should have just married Ian if she was going to throw her marriage to Mike away that easily. And Gabby would never let a daughter of hers get fat. And Edie, if someone chased me out of town I wouldn't come back. I'm guessing the guy with her is the husband of the woman that died in the car crash and he is here for revenge. Oh brother, here we go again. This is totally ridiculous

Now on to the fact that they skipped five years. What a waste of some wonderful and dramatic moments we miss in the past five years. Like Gabby having her babies and Daniel taking Benjamin. I feel cheated. And the women have been stolen five years of there youth, how sad. I want the natural progression of thing so I can feel like I'm in the story, now I just feel dizzy. It feels like a whole new show, so what's the point? Sure it was a well done episode, for a totally new and different show. No thanks.

Wow.. finally the day! This episode was really really good.. I enjoyed it very much. The flashbacks just gave us an idea of what has been going on in these five years.. Just a glance in the past of these women.. That was a good choice because otherwise it could have been a slow episode. The twins? Really cool guys.. but I really miss the old Scavo twins.. (But.. where are Penny and Parker??)

Susan and Mike..? good story but I don't like her new boyfriend that much (hopefully she will come back together with Mike!!!)

I felt really sad for Bree when they show how Danielle took her son.. (By the way Orson is the most aged in the show now!!!)

Gabby and Carlos are really different now, and Gabby seems not that happy with her new life..

And finally: "She's baaaack" Edie! Wow I can't wait to see what will happen with her new hubby!!
  • Awesome!

After the season 4 cliffangher, I didn't really know what to expect of the 5 year-leap forward. I was afraid I would be disappointed, just like a lot of fans I think.

I watched the first episode and I'm just delighted. I was not weird at all to find our favourite housewives 5 years in the future with a whole new life.

The essence is still there: humour, their friendship, witty lines, mysteries and a lot new things.

All the new things, the events we have missed are not upsetting since they perfectly fit in the pattern and are very well explained. Those which are not, I'm sure it will be done in the episodes to come. The only annoying thing is probably Susan but there's nothing new there. I just think it's a shame that after taking 4 years to get back to "her" Mike she lets him go because of a car accident in which they have no responsibilities.

I'm not a big fan either of the painter guy.

On the other hand it's great to have Eddie back. Wisteria Lane was not the same without her. And her husband comes with luggage. The weirdest thing thing was probably to see Porter and Preston so grown up while Lynette and Tom are still young...

I can't wait to see what's the story with Danielle and look forward to leraning about Dylan and Julie.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! The five year jump was a great idea and it payed off from the first episode. This episode reminded me of the first season, that's a good thing! The last scene at the end with Dave standing outside was brilliant.

The storylines are very interesting. Gaby with her over sized daughter and her fading beauty, Lynette with her delinquent teenagers, Susan and her new man and the mysteries that he brings with him, Susan and Katherine's love/ hate relationship and their business, and Edie and her new man who seems to be the real mystery of this season.
  • OK season opener, hope it gets better!

This season focuses on Wisteria Lane 5 years later. Gabrielle now has 2 daughters, Susan and Mike are no longer together, Bree now is a cookbook writer, Lynette is keeping her twin sons out of trouble, and Edie moves back with a new husband.

Overall, I thought the episode was ok, but it wasn't my favorite. In the opening scene, Mike and Susan are in a car accident (5 years ago). Flash forward 5 years, and Susan is now having an "affair" with her painter. In my opinion, Mike was much better looking than the painter.

My favorite storyline of this episode was Gabrielle and her 2 daughters. It's interesting to see her without makeup and designer clothes, yet still driving a Aston Martin. My least favorite storyline was with Lynette. Not to sound callous, but you could tell that her twin sons would get into more trouble sooner or later. Big surprise! I'm looking forward to the storyline with Edie's new husband though!

A very nice start to what could be one of Desperate Housewives best seasons ever. The plot and script of the last two episodes of the fourth seasons set the bar really high for the writers and the directors for the fifth season, and I think they did OK.

I thought the plot was well, especially for Gabby and Lynett, but I really didn't like the new animosity between Bree and Cathrine (again). Edie's return was interesting, yet it seems like her character didn't develop much in 5 years, but her husband seems intriguing. Susan and Mike splitting up were really unexpected turn! I thought he died! But separate over this?! It's REALLY stupid.

Cheers up for Eva Longoria, who played Gabby's part really beautifully and I loved the monologue she presented when she sat next to Carlos. There's something great about the way she managed to balance between the old, glamorous Gabby, and this one.
  • Fifth Season Premiere - Five Years Later.

    "Perfect"
When I first heard about the time jump to five years later. I was a little afraid that it would ruin a great show. But I knew that they were doing this to open up brand new storylines. And it worked!

Every housewive is dealing with new stuff!

Bree - A Huge Cookbook author

    Lynette - Raising Teens.

Susan - Mike? Jackson? Maynard? Affair?

    Gabby - TWO KIDS!!!!

Katharine - needs a better storyline though!

Anyways I love the time jump! I like Edie this season. I like all the other storylines except Katharine needs more of a storyline. I like how Gabby is finally not worried about her looks and she is worried about her kids weight problems.

They need to develop more of Bree and Katharine's storyline. I can't wait till next week. Orson. Jail?
  • My favorite show returns with a BANG!

    10
    "Perfect"
Well, I've been DYING to watch this episode for months now, so it was about time I finally did!!

Season four ended with the shocking five year jump which had a lot of promise and potential, and thankfully the writers have taken full advantage of it!

The episode begins with a scene that begins explaning last season's cliffhanger (Mike's fate and the new man in Susan's life). Obviously Mike and Susan get in a car accident with a woman and her child, leaving everyone's fates (but Susan's) in question until the end of the episode. That scene was chilling mainly due to Susan's scream, which was simply perfect.

Susan: Her storyline was pretty good and mystery-driven to be honest. The new man in her life (her painter) Jackson is very hot and they make a spicy couple together. Susan doesn't want him to meet her son or friends because she's not ready to be in a relationship right now. This storyline was quite enjoyable, gave the episode its dose of sex and established Jackson as one of my favorite characters. By the time the episode ends, the viewers will learn that Mike is still alive but he & Susan are not together anymore because of the car accident in which the woman and her baby (who were in the other car) died and Susan was feeling very guilty about it, while Mike wasn't. It's also established that Mike left Susan and not the other way around.

Gabrielle: She has lost her beauty and has two overweight children to look after. She finds difficulty in finding Juanita a Princess dress because all of them are too small for her, also at the party she eats half the cake and the candles too! Gabby overhears some women talking about her kids and decides to do something about it and invents a 'game' in which Juanita follows her mom's car running. This storyline ends with a funny twist and a scene between Gabby & Carlos... that was such a touching scene to be honest.

Lynette: I wasn't very fond of her storyline at first but it turned out to be pretty good. Lynette catches her sons gambling and grounds them and tells Tom to handle the situation, but because he thinks his sons are 'cool' he un-grounds them and lets them go to some school party. Lynette doesn't like the idea and gives the kids their father's car, which Tom adores. Time passes and the kids are 35 minutes late after curfew and Lynette finally tells Tom that they're too old to be so careless and so Tom finally talks to them the way he should, in one amazing scene.

Bree: I wasn't very fond of Bree in this episode to be honest, she's become a self-centered and famous cook who overshadows her 'partner' Katherine. Katherine manages to embaress Bree in front of the camera but their disagreement about this situation does not end this episode. Later in the episode, a flashback occurs and explains that Danielle is now married to a lawyer called Leo and has taken her son back! It was one sad scene that really touched me and made me like Bree just a little bit better.

Edie: She's finally back with her husband Dave! The way Dave is introduced is quite iteresting and exciting, he basically buys Edie's old house back in a way thgat arouses suspecions. Edie decides to announce her return by washing her car in a bathing suit and she succeeds, she gets everyones attention. It seems that Dave has a huge influence on Edie as hes managed to make her a much more sensitive person. The ladies throw her a 'welcome back' party which she mistakens for a 'we're sorry' party and a cat fight almost occurs. Dave explains to Edie that they need to get these people to like them, but for unspecified reasons. During the very last scene, Dave gets a phone call from his doctor and it's revealed that Dave has rage issues and that he's actually after someone in the neighbourhood.

One minor complaint is that I didn't get a sense of mystery in this episode, I mean Dave's alterial motives aren't that interesting to me, hopefully the mystery will thicken in upcoming episodes.

Overall, great premiere that lives up o the hype. I also expect upcoming episodes to be even better, mainly because this episode spent too much time explaining what has happened in the previous 5 years and ignored many characters.
