Sunday 9:00 PM on ShowtimeBetween Seasons
Definitely Should be renewed based on 2 million viewers per week ,If Weeds(Great show) germs renewed based on under 900,000 a week .Dexter is tons more popular . Need to see how Dexter changes effect him after he finishes the whole Lumen, Jordon chase Quinn and Peter wellers 's major role as far as being so close to seeing and having video and photo evidence on Dexter .
My guess is,(Pure Guess no spoilers) Quinn kills him, Chase will get offed with Dexter and Lumen then maybe she will think of going back home restarting her life . BIn then end it would have to leave open what Deb has learned about her "Brother"or will Quinn destroy all evidence
In my opinion, a sixth season is pretty much guaranteed. And unless the writers start to struggle, I see no reason why the show can't go on for 7 or 8 seasons, maybe even 10. Which would be amazing.

I read that only a sixth season is confirmed because for a season 7 to happen they have to redo a bunch of the contracts. Still good news for sure. Obviously we'll know more potentially after the finale but I really hope it is a season that includes Lumen. I think they've evolved the Dexter character so far with Lumen being around that they could really do interesting things next season. I remembering watching season 2 I think and thought they should stop because there wasn't anywhere to go from there. Now I know to just let the writers do their thing.
This won't surprise anybody: Showtime is getting ready to announce a renewal for Dexter.
The show just had its second highest ratings ever on Sunday night, delivering 2.5 million viewers, up 43% from the fifth season premiere.
That almost certainly means the upcoming finale on Dec. 12 is going to set a new viewership record.
In 2008, Showtime confidently renewed Dexter for two seasons. That's not likely to happen this time, since key talent deals will need to be renegotiated before the show's seventh season. Expect the offical Dexter renewal within the next week or so.

Also just for the sake of topic... I really do hope it doesn't last more than 6 seasons. And that has nothing to do with how I feel about the quality of the show right now. Every season has been absolutely brilliant so far and they all are more or less on the same level when it comes to overall quality. But I'd much rather see them amp up the stakes NOW and have Dexter's secret get out than have them try to put all that off for a few more seasons. The writing would surely suffer if they did. They just can't keep manufacturing plot conveniences for Deb to not find out when she's just so adept at her job. They've drawn a lot of attention to this idea this year so they are clearly aware that it can't go on forever. I have no doubt Deb would struggle with what to do with the information when she finds out, maybe for a few episodes, but once it happens, the show pretty much has to start winding down to an ending. Otherwise we'd always feel that Dexter is going to get away with it no matter what, reducing the high stakes and increasing the implausibility.
It's sort of like what happened with 24. You always knew Jack Bauer would somehow miraculously escape impossible situations because there were x amount of hours left in the day and all the plots weren't resolved. Eventually you stopped feeling worried for Jack each episode because you always knew that in any situation he got into, he'd get out. And it got extremely ridiculous because he'd get stabbed one episode and the next episode he'd be running around taking guys out like Rambo. I guess I just want to see Dexter preserve that suspense for the entire series and go out on top like not many other serialized shows have.
I kinda wish they'd waited for the complete end of season 5 before announcing the almost renewal for season 6 because it kills off some of the suspense we have now, it's now almost impossible for dexter to get caught, because there will be a sixth season, like they did with season 2, when dexter was telling doakes that he was thinking about turning himself in, we did know about season 3 before the end of the season and that killed off a lots of suspense, but again, nothing's sure yet so i guess anything can happen
Season 6 just got confirmated via Facebook: "EXCITING NEWS – As we head toward another powerful, suspense-filled finale this upcoming Sunday, December 12th, it was just announced that Dexter has been renewed for a sixth season!"

6 or 7 No matter when they end Dexter , I think the writers should leave the possibilityfor Harrison to be as damaged as dexter (Born in Blood) , and thenhave a movie about Harrison , starting with Dexter being exicuted, ThenHarrison learning the trix of the trade (all along with dexter in his head as Harry is in Dexters). With aShowtime movie,In my opinion that would be the way to end the best writing ever .

| I'd rather the show went to eight seasons. They could easily do eight. I think that the way the series has gone, to make season 6 the last one really makes no sense. Seven or Eight would be perfect. Season 6 should build up for a final season if anything, or push the story forward. What the series needs is for there to be a major common goal from all the characters and a main antagonist / switch that will flip the series around. Dexter needs to go out with a bang. I can't see the season after this current one ending the whole show, especially when the show is pretty much a monopoly at this point. It's gaining more and more fans each day, so it would be stupid to stop it now. It hasn't even reached its most popular state yet... As long as there is more money to be made, the show will go on. Unlike a show like House, that falls into the trap of sticking to the same setting (a hospital), Dexter can easily up the ante and continue to be fresh and exciting... Seven or eight seasons... |

Totally agree with you ice edge, 6 is the right number, if they go up to 7 or more it will become predictable, and we might get bored with it, every season as brought dexter closer and closer from beeing caught, if they don't want the public to start watching dexter as one of those CSI show they will have to end him soon somehow, not too few not too many, and i think that's why they didn't renewed the show for 6 and 7 like they did for 4 and 5, but only for 6, it will be the right time to end it

I'd rather they had season 6 *build* for a seventh season. And then end the thing. I figure the final season should be built up in such a way that each episode is like a finale in some ways. This way, they could easily pull off another season.
Oh, and the very thought of Dexter doing 15 seasons if horrible. LoL. No one should ever do that. But eight or seven would work, if they had the proper build up. The way Dexter is now, I can't see a finale come this soon. I just can't. It can't without it being rushed.
