The Ice Truck Killer begins leaving pictures from Dexter's childhood at the crime scenes. Is the killer trying to tell Dexter something about his own past?
  • This episode made this one of my new favorite shows.

The new information about dexter's past made him more really to me. I love how weird the show is, but I like that the show is not just about being weird its more. I was glad that Dexter didn't kill the guy that was left for him, it made him a real person that you can almost understand. It was nice that he let his sister find the body he says that he has no feelings but I think that kinda shows that he does. I was glad to see some sexual interaction happen between his girlfriend and him the big builded up was starting to make me mad. Her stealing the dog was classic finally starting to get a back bone.moreless
  • Getting into Dexter's childhood..

So.. this time it is getting much more personal. I mean, the whole thing with that suspected Ice-truck killer and leaving his bodyparts in places from Dexter's childhood photographs. That just creepy but works very well with the story and the development leads to deeper dive into Dexter's personality and his thoughts.. I mean.. like the one when they are in Halloween shop... The concept of monster and wearing masks. I mean - it just works and it has a beautiful meaning if looking.

So, I think it was great story and well worked out. Great episode with good story developments.moreless
  • It's... OK

  • Dexter realizes he's a different animal.

    9.6
    "Superb"
Dexter realized the ice truck killer took time to study his life when he left him the butchered doll. The security guards severed body part show up at places associated with Dexter's past. Too bad the police don't know this.

Dexter feels like the ice truck killer is showing him how he life is a lie because he hides behind masks unlike the ice truck killer who lives authentically. I'm not sure I buy it. In some regard the ice truck killer is wearing a mask of his own or else he would not blend into the background.

While the ice truck killer seems to be driven by animal urges we learn that Dexter doesn't just kill. He has rules making him different than his friend. I'm glad Dexter realized what the audience knew.

Another person knows Dexter's identity and what he does. That the second person that knows. The more people know the harder it will be for him to be safe.moreless
  • Not too shabby!

    9.9
    "Superb"
Once more they did it! They just catched everything that was most interesting about the clash between Dexter and the Ice Truck Killer and they made a whole episode of it. How fortunate we are!

Seriously, this episode reminds me of "The Silence of the Lambs". We kinda are forced to jump into the psyche of both Dexter and the Ice Truck Killer without even realizing. Truth be told, it's a very superficial dive, but on the midst of the cross fire between two serial killers whilst one of them is obviously playing with the other, everything seems to be ready to engulf you while you try to watch everything at once.

But it doesn't end there. For the first real time we meet more intimately most of the characters of the show. And what do we see? Paraphrasing Dexter: "Everyone hides who they are at least some of the time."

In sum, stay tuned! This show is getting pumped up!moreless

    ADD TRIVIA
    • On the beginning of the episode right at the moment Dexter is doing a voiceover about the Halloween tradition of people wearing masks of monsters, Cody appears wearing a mask of U.S. President George W. Bush.

    • Goof: In this episode, when Dexter looks at the back of the photograph and sees the smiley face, the photo paper is HP. Digital photo printing wasn't around when Dexter was young.

    • Dexter should stick to blood spatter - for both the foot and the hand he is way off on where the killer's incisions are. The hand has been severed well below the carpals, clean through the radius and ulna. Similarly the foot has been removed by cutting through the tibia and fibula - the tarsals and metatarsals are about halfway down the foot itself.

  • QUOTES (22)

    ADD QUOTES
    • Harry: It's great to see you having such a great time, Dex. Dexter: Are you kidding me? This hay is giving me a total allergy attack and we are just going around in circles on a pumpkin patch.

    • Dexter: (Voice over) Gift-wrapped and begging for death, tools at the ready. He was left here so I would kill him, but my new friend doesn't see me as clearly as he thinks. I can't kill this man. Harry wouldn't want it, and neither would I.

    • Dexter: (Voice over about the clue) My friend left this. He's showing me where to go. Am I going because it's what he wants or because that's what Harry would want? And what do I want?

    • Deb: (watching security footage) Oh look, there's Mr. Tub-O-Lardy bring Mrs. Tub-O-Lardy another bucket of fried chicken.

    • Dexter: (Voice over during the blow job) I've come to to appreciate the comfortable moments with Rita. The easy, quiet moments. This might be better.

    • LaGuerta: If I were you I'd head back to the station. Traffic at this hour's a bitch. (walks away) Deb: Speaking of bitch...

    • Dexter: (voice over) Unlike Harry, my new friend doesn't place much value in blending in. He wants me to see who he is and what he does. Everything about him is brazen, authentic. What does that make me?

    • Harry: You can't be a bully, Dexter. First of all, it's wrong. Secondly, people remember bullies. People like me, cops. A Bully is a felony waiting to happen. So..? Dexter: Blend in.

    • Dexter: (Voice over about the dog) I could make things so much easier for Rita, but that would be wrong.

    • Harry: This time everybody smile. That means you too, Dex. Deb: Yeah, pretend you're burning ants!

    • Neighbor: Walter is an outside dog. Dexter: Hey, you put Walter inside, Walter is an inside dog. Neighbor: He doesn't like being inside. Dexter: He tell you that?

    • Dexter: (voice over) Maybe I'll never be the human Harry wanted me to be, but I couldn't kill Tony Tucci. That's not me either. My new friend thought I wouldn't be able to resist the kill he left for me, but I did. I'm not the monster he wants me to be, so I'm neither man nor beast. I'm something new entirely, with my own set of rules. I'm Dexter. Boo.

    • Dexter: (voice over) Everyone hides who they are at least some of the time. Sometimes you bury that part of yourself so deeply that you have to be reminded that it's there at all, and sometimes you just want to forget who you are altogether.

    • Dexter: (voice over) Hospital's shut down now. Abandoned for years, but tonight it's visiting hours again.

    • Dexter: (voice over) Harry was the only one who saw me, really saw me. So he taught me to hide, and that's what's kept me safe. But sometimes, I'm not sure where Harry's vision of me ends and the real me starts. If I'm just a collection of learned behaviors, bits of pieces of Harry. Maybe my new friend is right, maybe I am a fraud.

    • Dexter: (voice over) He knows. He's not corrupting the happy Hallmark images of my youth. He's revealing the ugly truth behind them.

    • Dexter: (voice over) Another photo from my family album, he's recreating my past with Tony Tucci's body parts. He's forcing me to see this.

    • Dexter: (voice over) It is my new friend the Ice Truck Killer. When he broke into my apartment, he took some time to get to know me. My life, my secrets.

    • Dexter: (sees severed hand in chair) Interesting hand job. Angel: That's funny. Dexter: It is?

    • Dexter: (voice over) I find people around me are all making some kind of connection, like friendship or romance but human bonds always lead to messy complications; commitment, sharing, driving people to the airport. Besides if I let someone get that close, they'd see who I really am and I can't let that happen. So, time to put on my mask.

    • Dexter: (voice over)I love Halloween, the one time of year when everyone wears a mask, not just me. People think its fun to pretend you're a monster. Me, I spend my life pretending I'm not. Brother, Friend, Boyfriend- all part of my costume collection. Some people might call me a fraud. (Dexter stops and looks at Rita and the kids) Rita: Let's see if this fits. Cody: Boo! (stabs Dexter with play knife) Dexter: Ahh! You stabbed me in the back. (voice over) I prefer to think of myself as a master of disguise.

    • Harry: When somebody takes your picture, you smile. It doesn't matter if you're happy or not, you just do it, to fit in. Ok? Dexter: Ok.
