The ninja that hit himself with a newspaper after he lost the contest made a move similar to a seppuku (or hara-kiri, meaning belly cut) like Japanese warriors do when they fail. Of course, since it's a cartoon, it had to be censored with a hit with a newspaper on the head. It is unknown if he died.
