It is a beautiful day in Los Angeles we find three people eating breakfast and they just finished a big assignment. The three people eating breakfast are Chief Masters who has set up a task force to catch Gordon Ganza. Steve Sloan is set to testify against Gordon Ganza.



Soon things go from good to bad Steve in the shot in the restaurant. Once in a back and once in the stomach. Tanis Archer advises the Chief to call in the ambulance. Tanis is Steve's partner.



Chief Masters rides with Steve in the ambulance to a community General Hospital. Chief Masters makes the dreaded call to his father Dr. Mark Sloan. Who serves as chief of internal medicine.



We find Mark at home listening to radio and a traffic report. He is busy trying to fix the handles on his cabinets. When he gets the call every parent dreads.



Steve arrives safely at community General Hospital. Dr. Jesse Travis and Dr. Amanda Bentley begin to assess the wounds on their friend. A frantic Mark Sloan comes in ready to assist the doctors in the operating room. Amanda stops Mark from trying to the operating room. She tells him he's too close to the case and that he's in good hands and needs to wait for information.





Chief Masters updates Amanda on the case. She asks him if he saw the shooter. He tells her he's coming to her and a body bag. A very angry Mark sits and listens to the latest information on the case and wonders if anyone knows who did this.



Jesse comes into the room and death dates Mark on Steve's condition. Jesse doesn't have very good news. He tells Mark that Steve has a lot of internal bleeding. He doesn't know whether his son's life with the prolonged or shortened due to shooting. Market anxiously goes and sees his son lying in a hospital bed tied to lots of equipment keeping track of his final sounds.



Mark tells a comatose Steve about a time when he was 6 years old and helpless mother Kathryn got him a Superman suit and didn't get out of that suit for about a week.





With Steve being wounded the case against Gordon Ganza is dismissed due to lack of evidence. We see a happy man go free.





Market is busy giving up for shock to the staff at community General Hospital. Jesse pulls Mark aside and asks him how long it's been since he's had any sleep. Mark insists he's fine. Jesse knows he's not doing any good asking Mark to get some rest.



Jesse and Mark go check on the condition of Steve. They find out that his condition remained unchanged. Jesse tells Mark the laundry Steve stays on responsive the less likely he'll be to wake up. Jesse tries to get Mark to prepare for the possibility that his son might never wake up.



Mark admits he hates being a doctor.



Chief Masters is busy telling to police officers to allow Jesse and Mark access to Steve's room at all times. Mark wonders why there security around his son. Chief Masters tells him it's just a security precaution. Jesse breaks the silence by pointing out that if Steve dies there is no case.



Mark and then gets very angry and tells Chief Masters that Gordon Ganza is laughing at him. Mark then decides to go see Gordon Ganza himself. Gordon tries to start polite conversation by telling Mark the ending to the latest book he read. This makes mark angrier because the conversation goes off topic.



Mark then tells Gordon that he would do everything he can to make him pay for shooting his son.



A sleep deprived Merck returns to community General with an open pen in his pocket and not anxious to leave until his son wakes up from the coma. Mark walks into the locker room to change into a clean shirt. He is about to make a fatal mistake that leads up to an unexpected event for the doctor.



Without realizing what is about to do Mark put his penis stained shirt into the wastebasket. Next he gets called from a lady named Spring Dano. Mark goes to meet Spring at a studio in California to ask for protection from Gordon because she believes he's dying. What Mark doesn't realize is that this is all setup to frame him for a murder that is about to happen.





Mark gets a call about Steve's condition even though it remains on changed. Jesse shows Mark Steve's chart indicating what Jesse already suspected that his patient's prognosis doesn't look very promising. Amanda asks Mark if Steve has living will. Mark tells Amanda is he is Steve's living will. Mark tells Jesse to use everything he can teach an episode alive even if it means going breaking hospital rules.



Next we find Amanda talking to Chief Masters as the body of Gordon Ganza is headed to Amanda is path lab for autopsy. Which she will wait to determine Gordon Ganza died due to a cholinesterase inhibitor. Amanda determines that the deceased was poisoned due to another drug called pilocarpine hydrochloride that was already in the system. When the two drugs interactive they basically caused respiratory arrest.



Amanda goes in to Steve's room and finds Mark sound asleep Amanda then tells Mark that Gordon was poisoned last night. Market Amanda both admit that they're not sorry that he died.



Over pastrami sandwich Chief Masters and Tanis Archer discuss the evidence. Tennis pulls out an envelope. The envelope contains pictures of Mark Sloan with Gordon 's mistress. All leading both Chief Masters and tennis Archer to suspect Mark Sloan having been involved in the murder.



Just as Mark arrives to help spring by taking her to the police, what he doesn't know is that spring has been murdered. Mark desperately tries to check for a pulse. The housekeeper finds him next to the woman's body.





Now Chief Masters questions Mark about why he was at Spring's apartment more than three times a week according to the made. Mark tells Chief Masters that the maid was lying and that he was never in the apartment before until he tried to chat on the young lady to take her to the police.





Mark is then arrested for the murder of Gordon Ganza. Amanda has the unpleasant duty of testifying against Mark. She tells the judge that Mark is not a murderer.



Amanda tells the court that it was Mark Sloan the came up with the idea that Paula trainer could've died from a poison.



Against the advice of his lawyer Mark Sloan desperately tries to clear his name. He testifies on his own behalf to see if it can set the record straight. He only makes things worse. The lawyer shows Mark pictures of himself in bed with spring. He tries to tell the court he was only at that apartment on one occasion. When he found some more pictures and some of this things at that apartment.



The jury hands down a verdict of guilty in the murders of Gordon Ganza and Spring Dano. Mark is sentenced to death by lethal injection. As Mark begins the long walk inside the prison cell he runs into an old friend.



He runs into Malcolm trainer Paula trainer's wife.
