The first of a two-parter, this well-written episode has a lot to offer.

The plot is immediately engaging, drawing the viewer in with Steve's personal involvement and eventual framing for the murder of Lloyd Schroeder. There are enough twists throughout to keep you guessing, with each of the four corrupt cops given plenty of means, motive and opportunity to have committed the murder. The final scene, with Mark trapped in a bathroom hiding from a gunman, is genuinely tense - even though you know no harm could really come to our hero!

In terms of character development too there's a lot to recommend this episode. Jack gets to revisit his old neighbourhood as he tries to clear his friend's name, and it's refreshing to see another side of him. In the setting of Community General his 'streetwise' comments and references to his various shady contacts can seem a little farfetched, but here he seems at ease, the dodgy past that's often alluded to suddenly very real. It's good to see this side of his character and begin to understand his motivations and where he came from.

There's also some classic Norman Briggs moments as he tries unsuccessfully to avoid strike action by the nurses, managing only to irritate Delores more with every attempt.

On the downside, the four dodgy cops have great reasons to have hated Lloyd Schroeder - perhaps just a little too great to be believable - and you do have to wonder how Jack keeps managing to tail suspects in his bright purple sports car without anyone ever noticing him...

Overall though, this is an interesting and entertaining episode, leaving enough loose ends to make you look forward to the resolution in Part Two.moreless
