Machu Picchu: Lost City of the Inca
AIRED:
In 1911, Hiram Bingham, famed American explorer, stumbled across a remote Inca city atop a high peak in the Andes. The site was called Machu Picchu--perhaps the most famous ruin in the world. Was it, like Bingham believed, a military fortress or did this glorious ruin have a secret purpose?moreless

      • Josh: This week join me as I explore the most famous ruin in the Americas, Machu Picchu. Since its discovery in 1911, its origin, purpose and construction have been an ongoing mystery. For years it was believed that this city in the mountains of Peru was the last battleground in the Spanish-Inca war. But what was the real purpose of this place? To find out I'll examine ancient manuscripts for clues, I'll follow in the footsteps of the man who first reveled the Inca site to the world and I'll build a bridge across a raging river on a quest to find out who built Machu Picchu and why. We're digging for the truth and we're going to extremes to do it.
