  • "The Ultimate Clash" has many important revelations, like the importance of Kari, the fight between WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, and also...

    9.6
In "The Ultimate Clash", several things of major importance happen. First, the conclusion of the battle between WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon from the last episode. I, personally, had wanted to see this fight for a long time, and though it might happen, as Mat had been jealous of Tai for a long time. He had been envious of Tai being the leader, and of the relationship between Tai and T.K. as well. It also starts proving that point that each are probably equally as strong, and that they might have destroyed each other had continued fighting. Another big thing that happened was the audience finding out more about how special Kari is, and also finding out about the voice Kari had been hearing in the last few episodes. Kari is obviously very special, and her being the only one who could be possessed is the first piece of evidence in the series. And finally, another thing important about this episode is that more of the past is explained. The Digi-Destined seeing the battle in the real world, Gennai becoming "poisoned" by Piedmon, eventually making him older, why Kari didn't come to the DigiWorld with the other 7 Digi-Destined, and why Gatomon was separated from the other Digi-Destined's Digimon. In the end of the episode, Mat finally begins to realize his mistakes, but must go searching on his own. Also, so do Mimi and Joe. This tells us that the Digi-Destined need to find there own way to defeat the evil of the DigiWorld, and have to learn on their own. I believe that this episode is one of the best episodes of the series.

  • Great Battle and Great History Lesson!

    10
This episode clears up some things that have been happening all season like how Gatomon was sepearted from the rest, how they became digidestineds, and a little background on Piedmon (not much but some). The battle at the beginning was great and showing the anger between Tai and Matt was good as it finally reveals thier friendship and hate towards each other. This was one of my favorite Season one episode because a little over half of the episode shows us what happened in the past and connects this to the future. Overall, this is a good episode and one who need to see in order to clear things up for this season.moreless

    • Puppetmon: (watching Tai and Matt argue) Alright! Those twerps are about to self-destruct. I'll sit back and enjoy the show.

    • Patamon: Gee, now we're all gonna be split up again.
Biyomon: Just when we were finally all together.
Gatomon: You may think we're separated, but we're really not.
      Patamon/Biyomon: Huh?
Gatomon: The roads might be different, but the place we end up in is the same. I mean, think about it. If they truly are the digidestined, they're destined to be together once again. At least, that's the way I hope it works out....

    • Joe: Ahh! Piedmon is here! Don't come any closer! Shoo! Go away!
Gomamon: Relax, he's just an image.
Sora: Yeah, save your screaming for the real thing.

    • Tentomon: This is no space age vacuum cleaner! Meet Mekanorimon. His Twin Beam will annihilate anything... which makes housework a breeze.

    • Izzy: His name is Gardromon. He's a machine digimon. And his armour is constructed of solid iron. Absolutely nothing can penetrate that can of beans.

    • Tai: The problem with you is pretty easy to figure out. You're upset because you wanna be the boss.
Matt: Yeah, like I wanna be boss of this sorry group. If any of you brainiacs wanna take charge, be my guest. I say we should just take care of ourselves.
Sora: Stop fighting, you two! We've got to stick together.
Tai: Don't look at me, Matt's the one who started it. He's got a bug up his nose. Huh. I don't have to listen to this.
Agumon: Bug up the nose? That's a bad thing?

    • Joe: (seeing himself from 4 years ago) How typical, I'm on the telephone.

  • NOTES (10)

    • This episode was published in the manga Digimon Digital Monsters Volume 5.

    • This is the first time we hear the words "Warp Digivolve" when Agumon becomes WarGreymon.

    • Tai and Matt get into a fight for the second time (the first time was in "Subzero Ice Punch"), and this time, the rest of the Digi-Destined are actually witnessing this fight.

    • This is the true "Legend of the Digi-Destined" seeing how the other episode didn't explain much about them.

    • This is the first time that two Digi-Destined in any of the TV series have their Digimon face-off in a battle. It is the only time that the Digimon fight while their partners also fight.

That's not entirely true. In the Season 2 episode "An Old Enemy Returns" TK and Ken (aka the Digimon Emperor) get into a fight as do Patamon and Wormmon at the same time while on his fortress.

    • We finally learn why Gatomon was separated from the Digidestined Digimon before she became Myotismon's slave. Gennai's Mekanorimon's arm holding the Digidestined Digi-Eggs was blasted by Guardromon's Guardian Barrage attack, causing one of the eggs to fall out of sight.

    • Gardromon and Mekanorimon make their debut in a flashback in a conflict between Piedmon and a younger Gennai.

    • This marks the first time that the Digi-Destined identified Parrotmon in a flashback of four years ago.

    • Gardromon is also spelled Guardromon, especially in Season 3.

    • The part where Tai and Matt's punches hitting each other have been edited out for being too violent.
