The show Earl and Roy watch to test its intelligence level would later be repeated in "Baby Talk", but only the audio dialogue, the actual show was never shown on the TV again.
Fran: Earl, that was Charlene, she needs a ride home, she can't remember where we live.
Earl: That doesn't prove a thing, she never was the brightest kid.
Fran: Earl you've got to put smarter shows on the air, everybody's gotten too dumb.
Fran: I was just at the market speaking to some of the other mothers, and they all say their kids are doing badly in school, they're like zombies. (sees Ethyl, Baby and Robbie in a zombie-like state watching TV) This has gotten way out of hand, if we're going to watch TV we're going to watch the news. Robbie, turn on channel 8.
Robbie: (lifts up the remote to Fran) Huh? Oh, which one's 8?
Fran: What? Oh give me that.
Earl: This isn't fair. The one time in my life I'm good at something, and I wind up destroying society.
Baby: Not the pajamas, not the pajamas.
Ethyl: It's amazing how a phrase like that can catch on.
Stu: (on the phone) I don't care if it's a good or bad show! Does it fill an hour? Does it eat up all the space between commercials? Good! Get it on!
Earl: You guys are evil...first I put the dumb shows on because I liked them. Then I put on the smart shows to save the world. You have an opportunity to speak to millions and millions of dinosaurs. But you don't care WHAT you put on the air, all you care about are ratings.
Fran: Robbie, show your father your report card.
Earl: F-F-F-F-F-M...M? What's an M?
Robbie: Well, half way through grading me, my teacher forgot the alphabet.
Some of the shows mentioned in this episode spoof "Cops", "90210", "E.R.", "Gilligan's Island" and "Hee-Haw".
When Earl is watching "The Professor Show" he wonders if it be a be a better show if a professor was stranded on an island with a movie star and a millonaire. This is a reference to Gilligan's Island.
Baby Cuddlebunny and his phrase "not the pajamas! Not the pajamas!" is a take on Baby Sinclair and his phrase "Not the mama!"
