  • Character Summary: you need to have a TON to sit through this show and/or any re-runs there after

I also ponder the thought of why did I watch this.I really honestly and truly feel deep in my heart and soul that I need to get out of the house and stop watching television after watching this show. This is the reason I need to join the gym, take a walk in the park, read a good book, maybe take up Karate, go hiking, go back to school, find a part time job, help the homeless. I mean the list just keeps growing with the thought of having to sit through more FX commercials only to know that this show is still on the air after one night. Before I go to sleep I\'m going to pray for everything that is good in the world and hope that this was just a bad dream.......moreless
  • boring, uninspired, unappealing

what should have been an excelent idea for a show and just the sort of television i enjoy watching is in fact boring and sleep inducing. none of the characters are remotely appealing or inspire the sort of fascination usually associated with 'baddies' as i guess lucy, played by courteny cox, is supposed to be and the story line just appears to be unbelivable drivel. the acting quality is also incredibly limited. though usually i would not wish to judge on a pilot, especially as i understand that this show is popular in the us, from what i have seen i would hate to have to watch anymore. i expected much better from cox and arquette especially in a show which could have been such a brilliant success.moreless
  • A nice, solid pilot. But not much more than that.

Courtney Cox pulls of her role as a heartless tabloid editor surprisingly well. In a mere episode she seems to have shaken off her "Friends"-image and has entered an entirely different stage of her career.

The general feel of this show however is that it's all glamour and no real substance. But that's probably what the writers went for in the first place. The plot felt a bit contrived and at times there was just too much flash and too little action and/or talking. But who knows, this could be a nice show once all the characters are somewhat established and the "newness" has to be replaced with something more tangible. I'll just wait and see.moreless

  • So far, just okay.

It was an interesting episode and shows that this is a different show than most. I liked it, but I didn't love it. It took me a while to really get in the show and even longer to really make a connection with the characters. I found it a bit confusing in the beginning with who everyone was and what they were bringing to the table. I like the concept of the show, but I think that they could have made the pilot a little more exciting. It just didn't appeal to me like other pilot episodes.

I will keep watching the show and see what I really think of it. But I have to say that the actors are awesome and can really play their character well.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Debby Holiday sings the theme song, it's called "Dig Deep".

    • As Holt takes off his shirt the Virescit Vulnere Virtus "tattoo" is clearly seen as 3 seperate lines of text. A couple of seconds later, when he lays his shirt down and is dragging Julia out, the tattoo looks more like a set of scrolls around a pole with a line of text below it. A second later after the camera cuts to the woman bystander leaving her car & then cuts back to Holt it reverts back to the 3 line Virescit Vulnere Virtus "tattoo."

    • Although Dirt is set in Los Angeles, Prince Tyreese doesn't play for the Lakers or the Clippers. Instead he plays for the the Los Angeles Rock.

    • Holt McLaren has a tattoo on his right arm that says "Virescit Vulnere Virtus", which is Latin for "Courage grows strong at the wound."

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Harvey: I wouldn't do that if I were you.
      Lucy: What's that Harvey?
Harvey: No woman should leave their drink unattended in these troubled times. Most of all you.

    • Lucy: You know why I'm not afraid?
      Harvey: Hmm...
Lucy: Because you and all of your Hollywood pals read my magazines and sickly love them and you know every word is true. And as much as you all hate to admit it, you need me. (she sips from her glass)
      Harvey: You're amazing.

    • Harvey Stone: (to Lucy) Do you have any idea how many of these people would like to see you laying on the ground begging for somebody to call 911.

    • Don: (to Holt) Maybe you could give me a little piece of gossip... or a big one. You know, so I can help you get your career out of the toilet.

    • Holt: I'm an actor, that's all I've ever wanted to do.
Lucy: No! You wanted to be famous. There's a big difference.

    • Lucy: (to Holt) I didn't want to have to show you this but.. there's nothing more convincing than homemade porn.
