Mike gets dirty in Alaska as he helps protect the environment by cleaning up an oil spill. He then travels to Minnesota where he works to pull a car out of a lake that has fallen through the ice.

Although the filming of this took place five miles from where I grew up, I was unable to attend it, I would have like to have met Mike Rowe. Gary really knew what he was doing when he designed the Extractor, It makes the job so much easier than having to cut a trench to shore to retrieve vehicles that have gone through the ice. Carl is also very talented at what he does. It was funny watching Mike Rowe trying to put a Dry suit on. Dirty Jobs is a great show and I'm glad Tri-state Diving of Detroit Lakes, MINN was featured.moreless

I enjoy watching Dirty Jobs. The Ice Salvage Crew episode is my favorite. I have been diving for a number of years, but never under ice. The challenge of managing all the safety lines and logistical issues looks like work to me. Congratulations to the crew at Tri-state Diving for such a professional performance. The patented extractor for getting the vehicle back on top of the ice looks very ingenious. Now I know who to call if I ever need to retrieve something from the bottom of a lake. Mike, keep up the good work bringing us interesting dirty jobs.moreless

I have watched the episode at least two times about pulling the vehicle out of the water from the frozen lake and I am just amazed at the planning and equipment that goes into this operation.

My wife and I have just recently taken some SCUBA lessons from Gary Thompson and can now really appreciate how serious it would be to dive under the ice. We watch almost every episode of Dirty Jobs and we really enjoyed this one! We are proud that it was filmed here in Detroit Lakes, MN and featured one of our local dive experts! (Gary "Seal" Thompson)

I am looking forward to more Dirty Jobs episodes and even more underwater time with Gary!moreless

A vehicle is pulled from the bottom of a frozen lake! How can it get any better than that! From under 3 feet of ice in the middle of winter! Is worth a watch just to see the neat machine used to winch the SUV back to the surface! Did I mention a vehicle is pulled from the bottom of a frozen lake! Danger of drowning, hypothermia, just getting real darn cold. The hilarious comments by the bearded man are also worth watching. As Mike stands on the ice shivering the bearded man says to him in a Bob Newhart dry humor kind of way "you look cold". Classic.moreless
