A friend of mine told me to watch this show so I finally decided to give it a shot. This is the Pilot episode and it introduced the stories and characters. I loved how everything was introduced. The (excuse me because I don't remember any names) main character's past in introduced and then it flashes to the present. I like how we first meet the rich family and get to see their various personalities. This episode was great in introducing everyone and also the plot. At the end of the episode we learn that the main character is going to look for his father's killer. Overall, great character development episode. It was also fresh, different, and funny.
  • Wow, I've watched the episode for the second time now and I have to say: I LOVE IT. How opinions can change...

In my first review I couldn't stop complaining about how this show lacked substance... Now I can only think: was I really saying that? Beside the fabulous acting of fan favorite Peter Krause and the marvelous Donald Sutherland, this show has it all - quirky humor, irony, satire and most of all: edge. Looks like the first time around I wasn't that particularly impressed by Krause's acting but maybe all I needed was a good dose of Six Feet Under (I finished the series only a few days ago) before I could fully appreciate it. Anyway, he's amazing in this pilot. Seeing him on-screen never ceases to bring a smile to my face. (Love it how his wife's name is Lisa here too, I almost thought I was watching SFU during the scene in which "Nick", stripped to his underwear, tries to persuade his hesitant wife that this new job will be good for them.)

A very energetic pilot. Can't wait to watch how things unfold!
  • We meet the Darling Family

Just watched this episode and thought it was O.K, nothing special.

In the Pilot episode we get meet the characters and see what the show is about.

This episode starts off with Nick a attorney who's father who also was an attorney worked for the Darling Family, but suddendly dies in a plane crash. The head of the Darling led by Patrick Darling gives him a propersition in leading the Family's Affiar's in offering 10 Million in which he eventually takes, though he insisted he would not work for them (who the hell is gonna turned that amount of cash down).

Every member of the family soon come to him for his help, Reverend Brian has an illegitimate son, who was dropped off by his mother without warning soon ran off, leaving Brian with a son he never knew he had. However, the school will only accept the child if he formally accepts the child as his own.

Patrick Darling is Involved in a relantionship with a trannie, we also find that Letitia was said to have an 40 year affair with Nick's father, all in all every member in the family have a secret in which it has to be kept apart from the Public.

Nick also finds out that his father might have been Killed and his determined to find out the truth, I might just stick around and see where this is going.

This episode start in cleverly by incorporating the backstory of the protaganist in flashbacks. It then launches into the first chaotic scene in buccaneering fashion where immediately I was struck by the mannerisms of each of the main cast, I suspect I will grow to love and hate over the course of the season. Already there are some very interesting and diverse characters. They will provide some very good foils for conflict in future. Howver in this episode their sparks of confrontation were kept to a minimum to allow for the other parts of teh story that needed telling.

We also see the adhesive factor that will have our protaganist stay until he has discovered the cause of his dads plane crash.

This looks like its going to be as great as Studio 60. Hope it doesnt share its fate.

    Donald Sutherland. ...

The only reason I checked out this show. But it appears that there's much more to it!

Modern day soap opera? Perhaps. At least I got that vibe from the pilot.

Let me start off by saying that Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland completetly steal the show. They are amazing.

    Also, the music choices. Perfect.

Now, as for the episode itself. Interesting concept, and definitely convinced me to watch the rest of the season.

The first 20 minutes were 10/10 easily! Incredible pacing, witty dialouge, amazing music choices(come on, the introduction of the Darling family... priceless!) Easily the most memorable moment of the pilot.

But then, it slowed down to regular pilot pacing. That means lot of exposition and barely any development. Still, it was enjoyable, and I'm already liking most of the characters which is good. All in all, perfect first half, 7/10 second half makes this a 8.5 pilot - impressive.
  • I will continue watching, it was good.

I enjoyed this pilot, I think it did a good job introducing all the family and characters. It definately could go in any direction, with the main story and each character. My favoirites were probaly Karen and Jeremy darling, I thought karens obssesion with the Nick George, EG being when his wife caught them in a suspcious situation, got annoyed, Karens reaction was funny. Jeremys character just was funny, he seems like someone who will be amusing throughout the season. I liked the main Darling, Tripp as well, when he offered Nick the job, I liked that scene. Also liked when ther mother Darling told Juliette her daughter, that she would be human someday.

It was nothing mind blowing and wasn't the best pilot that I've seen but it was good enough to make me watch the next one!
  • A pretty good start to the show.

This episode is the first episode of this new drama, Dirty Sexy Money. In this episode, lawyer Nick George discovers that his father was actually murdered by someone, and sets off to find them.

Anyway, Tripp Darling, played by Donald Sutherland, is father of the extremely wealthy Darling family, and asks Nick to be his lawyer. However, after discovering some evidence, Nick thinks that Tripp might be the killer.

Nick has to help Tripp's sons and daughters as his job. One is a troubled reverend at the church, another is a troubled gambler and one is a troubled actor. But they're rich!

This was a great episode, and a good start to Dirty Sexy Money. I look forward to the next instalment of this show.

This series has been heavily promoted in Australia so I thought if I was home and I was on that channel, I'd watch it - which I did.

I found it slightly drawn out and not always very interesting. Despite that though it was one moment at the end of the episode which let the whole thing down - the plane being found....without a body. My eyes rolled and I couldn't help but think it was leaving the 'mystery' open and that 'Dad' could have faked his own death - it's been used so many times that it just came to my head.

Overall I watched the whole episode but I'm not sure if I'll bother next week - depends on what is on the other stations.
  • This pilot was good, but I thought the original(unaired) pilot was better.

I was really excited about this show when I saw the original pilot. The darkness of the show was very intriguing. I guess they had to make it lighter for abc, so even though I was bummed, I'm still very happy and will watch every week.

I think the writing is very witty. The element of surprise is fascinating in this show. I love how bold and funny the dialogue is "he's your girlfriend" or "nick deflowered me".

Can't wait for what else comes along, but I hope the writers keep to the original feeling of the show and don't try to overdue it as usually happens.
  • A mad dash to introduce all the characters in this pilot episode of Dirty Sexy Money makes a rather crass beginning of a drama show that is supposed to exude an air of elegance. Mysterious plot or ploy used seems contrived.

    5.0
    "Mediocre"
Dirty Sexy Money is yet another attempt at presenting the glamorous but flawed lives of the rich and famous. Here the fame comes not from the entertainment industry (Juliet's character notwithstanding) but rather from the money they have and the power they seem to have amassed (or about to, with the upcoming path to power of the first son).

Perhaps the show is not sure whether or not it would survive a mid-season review, therefore in this first pilot, they flush out all the characters to front stage. This mad dash to introduce all the characters in the pilot episode of Dirty Sexy Money makes a rather crass beginning of a drama show that is supposed to exude an air of elegance.

In filming Agatha Christie-based mystery movies, the directors usually introduces all the characters in the beginning of the film and slowly to establish motives; but such production is contained within a two-hour movie. Here with Dirty Sexy Money, one has the luxury to spread the introduction so that each character may come into picture when the appropriate time arrives. Instead, an event was created so that everybody would have the opportunity to assemble. It felt forced, and it looked contrived.

Desperate Housewives is not the first series that enticed the audience to stay put to find out "the secret" that grew out from the first few episodes, but that series was the last memorable show to use such ploy. Here at Dirty Sexy Money, however, the use of such ploy seems forced and makes the series look cheap.

Like probably everybody else, the title attracted me to this show. Any series with such a campy title deserves attention, and this pilot episode completely lived up to the hype.

Each member of the Darling family is straight out of some trashy night time soap from the Dynasty era. Most of them may not be very endearing right now, but it's about time a major network aired a show where most of the characters are scheming, manipulative, untrustworthy people. CBS's Smith featured the same type of cast last season, but I'm hoping Dirty Sexy Money manages to outlive that show by a long measure.

Peter Krause perfectly encaptures all the frustration dealing with this family has created for him, and Nick's snarky humor creates a welcome breather from the campy humor of the rest of the show. I loved the call-screening ringtones programmed into his cellphone, telling him which member of the Darlings was calling, and his reaction to the media chasing down Tripp was awesome. The Darling/media interaction made for the some of the pilot's best scenes, especially Juliet's catty "you're poor! Eww!" retort at a tabloid reporter.

Whilst most media attention has been dedicated toward the more famous members of the cast (Donald Sutherland, William Baldwin, Jill Clayburgh etc.), the best performances were usually from the lesser-known actors. Natalie Zea was perfect as the shameless socialite Karen, who always blurts out embarrassing secrets or lets slip her true feelings. Whilst that character quirk may have appeared lame in the hands of a less capable actress, Zea plays Karen as somebody who revels in her inappropriate nature, unafraid of what others may think of her. I also loved her chemistry with Nick, but I can't help but think they could be step-siblings or something similarly icky.

Brian Darling was also hilarious. A total ass, all his scenes with Nick were fun, setting him up as a character so sleazy and scheming, despite being a man of the cloth. I also loved how daring the Tripp storyline was. I don't think I've ever seen a leading character on a series who has a fetish for transsexuals, and definitely not on network TV.

Like many of the night time soaps from the past, but with greater characterization and wittier writing, Dirty Sexy Money, judging by this first episode, promises to be a juicy, high-camp dramedy and completely unmissable.

  • An attorney who has made his life to not be like his father professionally finds himself in his father's shoes as attorney for the famous "Darling family."

A surprsingly funny, witty show that was a pleasure from start to finish. My watching it was purely accidental, and as things happen, it was a thrillingly happy accident. The show, while very funny, is also a well done cross section of adult life. So often, we look at our parents and try to live differently, only finding ourselves re-living their lives, trying to fix their mistakes and realizing that it was not as easy as we thought. It is easy to see ourselves as Nick George in this capacity, but as we watch Juliet Darling break free of her family, Jeremy Darling rebel against it, and Karen Darling in her unrequited love, we find a bit of ourselves in each charater, often funny, but subtly heartbreaking- the making of a truly fantastic show, which sadly, may not stick around for many people to enjoy it.
  • Let's meet the Darling's.

Let me just start out by saying that I thought that this was a very good start to the show. All of the characters are very interesting and well written, especially Brian, Karen and Jeremy. The actors whole play those roles all play their characters so well. So far I would have say that my favorite character is definitely Karen. Natalie Zea plays the part so well. I can't wait to find out where the writers will be going with her characters, as well as the rest of the characters. All in all, this was definitely an excellent start to what I think will be a very interesting show.
  • Meet the Darlings, meet Nick George. Dirty Sexy Money is definitely worth a watch, if not season-long devotion.

    "Superb"
Dirty Sexy Money was not a disappointment! I tuned in mainly for Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland, but the entire cast was wonderful. In the pilot episode, we are introduced to the wealthy and extravagant Darlings, as well as their not so wealthy, no so extravagant family friend and lawyer Nick George. Oh, the complications that come with being rich and famous. Nick has to deal with all the issues that arise in the lives of the Darling kids, tranny strippers and illegitimate children included. If the next few episodes prove to be just as amazing, I will definitely be tuning in for the rest of the season!
  • An excellent opening to a powerful drama laced with delicious dark humor.

    9.3
    "Superb"
I had been looking forward to this for a while thanks to the cast but it's even better seeing it. The opening was good showing how Nick was affected by his father being sucked into the Darling's world and wanted nothing to do with it. That he needed the Darlings' okay to attend his own father's funeral shows how powerful and famous they are (I liked how they told us who each was as they entered).

As for the Darlings, so far they make the Bluth family from "Arrested Development" look normal. Donald Sutherland is perfect as Tripp, minipulating Nick while trying to help him as well. Jill Clayburgh is also good as the wife and the revelation that she'd been sleeping with Nick's father for 40 years was a nice twist. For the family, I like Juliet who honestly wants to succeed on her own without her family name, not able to accept that's the only reason she gets anything. Her new attitude at the end is good to keep her from going as one-dimensional as Justin is so far with his addictions. The arc of Brian was good, even if his hatered of Nick seems off (maybe he's the one Darling who knew of their mother's affair? That would make sense). But being handed off care of his son at the end was a great twist. The thing of Jill so into Nick seemed too much but enjoyed the relationship of Patrick and his lover.

Overall, Nick was good with handling it and liking Zoe McEllan as his wife fearing he'll turn into his father. The invstigation into the death will last a while but so far, it's the wild antics of the family that make it worth watching and hopefully will for a while yet.
  • Peter Krause Returns To TV

    9.3
    "Superb"
I watched the episode for Peter Kruase and Peter only, and Peter is really the only thing that I think is going to make me keep coming back. The mans acting is outstanding, I really cant find another word to describe it. Loved the slight pause on Peters part when the man said "I'm sorry for your loss", thats a classic.

I thought the show itself can be a little slow at times. There were characters of the rich family I liked and character of the rich family that I didnt like. In the end it was all the scenes with Peter Krauses's acting that stole the show for me. I think the basis of the next couple of episode is going to be Nick trying to find out what really happneed with his dad, so I think Ill be tuning in for several episodes of this show to see how it devolops. The pilot was good, but I hope they get better. Decent start.
  • I tuned in for the actors not knowing for sure if I would tune in again and what a pleasant surprise! I really liked this show and will watch again.

    9.0
    "Superb"
The actors were given well-defined characters, and though there were a lot of them, I thought they did a very good job introducing everyone and hinting at the nature of the relationships between them so far. I'm looking forward to more installments, most of all further character development as the story progresses on and the mystery of who killed the main character's father is explored.

I enjoyed the main character's struggle with turning down a position with the family that he practically grew up with and wanting to stick to his values and not sucked into the demanding world of the Darlings' as his father did. I'll be intersted to see if he is sticking around to find out who killed his father and whether he will be able to hold onto his values in life in the face of temptation.
  • I tuned in for Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland expecting to be disappointed. I wasn't, and I'll be tuning in again next week. The series premise reminds me of "Arrested Development," but a bit more dramatic.

    8.7
    "Great"
As actors, I've liked Donald Sutherland since watching the movie "Kelly's Heroes" many years ago. And I've like Peter Krause since "Sports Night," although of course "Six Feet Under" was great too. So, it easy for me to decide to tune into "Dirty Sexy Money," but i did so with some dread. I thought the series would be a dud. I thought the title alone made the show seem as if it was trying to hard. It sounded like a would-be stab at imitating "Desperate Housewives" and "Sex in the City." Yet, I didn't find the show to be imitative of much else on TV, and I was quite pleased with what I got.

The series premise involves Peter Krause reluctantly accepting employment as the attorney of a filthy rich family; a family he grew up with as his father was their attorney as he grew up. This series cashes in on a lot of attention paid recently to celebrity misdeeds (like the Hilton or Lohan families), which is both topical and entertaining. And the dysfunctional rich family premise reminds me a great deal of "Arrested Development," with Peter Krause playing the role of Michael Bluth/Jason Bateman, and Donald Sutherland, in a way at least, playing the role of Jeffrey Tambor. It is quite a positive association.

Pilots are obligated to do certain things, like introduce characters. A lot of times this can seem quite formulaic and boring - "Hello, I'm new character X. This is how I'm related to the other characters, and here is a salient example of my personality!" Of course this episode had this, but it was more understated than other series premiers I've watched this fall.

I look forward to catching this show again next week. The season premier earned it a Season Pass on my TiVo.
  • Young attorneys father dies, and he takes over there raines of his fathers work like he said he never would.

    10
    "Perfect"
This show had me twisting and turning laughing for most of the hour, and drama better than most in the last ten minutes. I can't envision a strong, better series premiere that the one I've just watched. You don't know who to trust, who to want to succeed, who you want to just live/escape, and who you want to fall. The only thing I want for sure is that I want Nick to keep his morals, to keep his family strong, and to rub off on everyone in that beautiful morally corrupt family. Dirty Sexy Money sums it all up, and revenge appears the be the fuel this show will run strong on.

Thank goodness Peter Krause is back on network television, he's been gone far to long!
