      • Joel: Speaking of things we're not telling dad. I'm auditioning for a TV talent show.
        Karen: You are?
Joel: Yeah, I'm going to sing a song.
Karen: You've never done anything like that before.
Joel: See, that's the point mom. Its time you and I tried something different. Take a chance. There's nothing worse than looking back and having regrets.
Karen: When did you get to be so wise?
Joel: Yeah, well you've been around as long as I have.

      • Isabelle: I can't stop thinking about your song. I didn't know that you had that kind of depth.
Joel: When I wrote this song, I wrote it for me. But, if my song touched you, then that's cool too.
Isabelle: What other songs do you have?
Joel: Uh, I have something called "The Real Slim Shady." I have a little pop number I like to call "Oops!... I Did it Again." And to challenge myself, I wrote something in Spanish, "Livin' la Vida Loca."

      • Joel: Look Pat. I used to go home after work, alone and play the guitar to unwind from my sucky job. It was the best part of my day, but it was for me. No one else.
Pat: Uh-huh, yeah, that's powerful stuff. I'm not leaving until you play me your song.
Joel: Okay, but are you sure you don't want to hear about your golf game, first?
        Pat: I don't play golf.
Joel: Well, you do when you join the country club.
        Pat: You shut your mouth!
Joel: Oh yeah, it's right around the time you developed your signature wink-double mouth click-finger gun greeting.
