Barnard Hughes plays Joe "Doc" Bogert the kind-hearted New York GP who cares about his patience and doesn't mind making house calls. He didn't care if his patience could pay him right away. The money was secondary to him, as long as his patience's were healthy. Elizabeth Wilson played his loving wife Annie and Judith Kahan as his married daughter Laurie. John Harkin plays his fussy son-in-law Fred, who was the target of most of Doc's jokes. Doc's friends and patience's play a big part of his life. He always loves hanging out with Happy or Ben, or worrying about the new patience in that episode. Later, in the second season the network dumps the entire family, and Doc moves his practice to one of the worst neighborhoods in New York. The change didn't help, and Doc was cancelled soon after.
