Episode Summary

EDIT
The people of Portwenn are concerned for Radio Portwenn's DJ Caroline Bosman, whose increasingly erratic behaviour has them suspecting that she has been hitting the bottle. The Doc has to deal with an elderly patient whose personal aroma can clear a room, but is unable to determine a medical cause for the stench. PC Mylow hopes that his pheromone spray will endear him to a pretty newcomer to the village, while the Doc/Louisa/Danny triangle gets even more complicated.moreless

    9.0
The episode begins with Danny being interviewed by Caroline as part of Radio Portwenn's home decorating week.Martin is annoyed by Danny's glib responses, but more concerned over Caroline's slurred speech. It seems everyone knows Caroline drinks too much, including her husband Tom who decides to move out until Caroline can get her act together. The bulk of the episode deals with Caroline's more erractic than usual behaviour which culminates in her being breath-tested which in turn leads to Martin discovering that alcohol is the least of her problems as she may be diabetic. In an ironic twist of fate it seems Mark's faulty breathalizer assisted Martin's correct diagnosis of Caroline's health problems.

Mr Cook, played wonderfully well by veteran actor Hugh Lloyd, who this reviewer remembers fondly from his appearances alongside Tony Hancock & Sid James in 'Hancock's Half Hour',has an unbelievable stench which baffles Martin & Pauline for most of the episode until Mr Cook opens his bag to look for a box of matches, only to discover his deceased green finch Freddie amongst his wordly possessions!

And the attractive but mysterious Julie Mitchell arrives in town & has a beguiling effect on the lovelorn PC Mylow. We will discover more of Julie and her story as season two continues but the town's other love interest,Lou & Dan,seem to be getting cozy.Much to Martin's obvious annoyance.

This most unlikely of love triangles will also continue to play out as season two meanders its charming way to an ultimate conclusion.Stay tuned!moreless

    • (Martin thinks that Caroline might have become an alcoholic)
Caroline Bosman: I don't drink any more than anybody else.
Doc Martin: Do you ever find yourself drinking first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get over a hangover?
      Caroline Bosman: No! Certainly not!
Doc Martin: Do you often find yourself get annoyed with people who observe or criticise your drinking?
Caroline Bosman: (angrily) That's it! I've had enough! Who the hell do you think you are asking inappropriate questions about something I have not even consulted you about?
Doc Martin: So that's a "yes", then, is it?

    • Doctor Ellingham (Administering an injection but staring at Danny, who is praying for Divine Intervention): Just a little prick.
