Season Three continues its slow start as Bert misinterprets Martin's advice from the previous episode concerning a change of lifestyle and opens a restaurant with less than convincing results. After Bert's other attempts helping out at the chippie and getting in on the bottled water business, you'd think that he'd just stick to plumbing!

When half of Portwenn contracts food poisoning it's assumed that Bert's restaurant is to blame but it's the Doc's attempts at installing a dishwasher & Pauline's suggestion that her fill-in,Poppy,serve the patients a cuppa (in cups from the very same dishwasher) that is the cause of the problem. You could say that Martin's plumbing skills lands everyone in the poo!

And while Martin's social skills & chat lines around Louisa aren't much better than his bedside manner, the Doc does show his sensitive side when young Mandie comes to see him about her breasts.Mandie's nasty girlfriends have been teasing her about her small breasts,so in desperation she takes an overdose of contraceptive pills thinking this will help her problem. In much the same way as he treated Mark Mylo's size problem,Martin prescribes a course of 'pills' which he assures Mandie will help her breasts to grow naturally. It does the trick in that Mandies's self confidence grows, which the good doctor has perceptively believed to be the problem anyway.'Doc Martin' is to be commended for dealing with the issue of female body image in such a sensitve & realistic manner.

And while Season Three may seem to be simply ambling along there is still plenty for viewers to enjoy with new characters, heartwarming stories and of course the breathtaking scenery. So stick with it.moreless
