  • Doc Martin has to deal with both patients and parents in this top drawer episode that is full of surprises, some of them not very pleasant.Mark & Julie and Lou & Dan both have news & the always welcome Roger Fenn makes a discovery of his own!moreless

As tough as this episode is to watch at times, due mainly to the obnoxious behaviour of Martin's parents, this is probably the season's stand out episode.

Christopher & Margaret Ellingham arrive in Portwenn for a visit and it soon becomes apparant that things aren't all as they should be.After some wisecracks about their son's relocation to the sleepy Cornwall fishing village and some 'hail fellow, well met' bravado from Christopher in The Crab and Lobster, everything comes to a head when Martin takes his parents to visit Joan.

Christopher has come to claim his share of the inheritance which in effect would leave Joan homeless.Joan is outraged and thinking that Martin is in cahoots with his father sends them packing. It seems that Margaret has met someone and wishes to stay on in their villa in Portugal, leaving Christopher to make his own arrangements.Margaret holds her son responsible for her wasted 40 years of marriage and wants to start afresh.Rather than see Joan lose the farm,Martin offers to sell his flat in London and give his father the proceeds as long as he promises not to tell his sister and further promises never to set foot in Portwenn again.

Back in the surgery,Martin deals with Maureen Treacy, who at 50 thinks she may either be beginning the menopause or have thyroid problems, but the good doctor discovers that she is pregnant. And with twins! The delerious father to be is none other than Roger Fenn.Much to this reviewers delight.

Also in loveland,Mark announces that he and Julie are getting engaged and Danny, who has a near death experience but lives to see another day thanks to some quick thinking stop gap surgery performed by Martin ,advises the doc that he plans to make a go of things with Louisa.

A cracking episode full of twists & turns, joy & sorrow with plenty to look forward in the final two episodes of what has been a memorable second season.moreless
