you're a little early, Matt Smith's first episode isn't going to be shown for a couple of months atleast so it's a bit unfair to already be talking about who people want as his replacement.

James Callis from battlestar Galactica and Richard E Grant who played the Doctor in Scream of the Shalka. They may be a bit older but maybe it is time to go in an older direction after a young guy like Matt Smith.

And they did exactly the same thing when Tennant was cast and we all know how that turned out

Matt smith is awsome i dont want him to leave. But every doctor has to leave and ive been hearing rumours that matt is giving up the role after series 6i really hope he will stay until series 9 but if i had to pick some people who would be fit to be the 12th doctor they would be-:

    Bill nighyfrom love actually

harry lloyd from dr who ep family of blood

    russel tovey from being human

    John simm The master!

    james cordenfrom gavin and stacey

Benedict Cumberbatch would get my vote after sherlock. But I still think Jack Davenport would make an awesome Doctor too.

You realise all of those people have been in the show before? I realise they've done that before, but I don't think these days they'll get away with it.

I'd say Cumberbatch too, but he's already gone on record saying he's not interested. He was offered the 11th Doctor before Matt Smith came along, but he basically doesn't want to do it because of the package deal - he doesn't like the idea of being on kid's lunchboxes & so on.

Incidentally, Matt Smith auditioned for Watson before the Doctor, but they decided he was too zany, and Sherlock should be the zany one.

That's a shame, because I think he would have been awesome, and his get up in sherlock would have been perfect too, the scarf as a throw back to baker, but more less coloured.

If no one else is suitable for 12 i'd quite like a crack at it. I'd insist on having a scarf though.

Heh, see, I think I'll need a bit more time before I have a decent enough portfolio to be considered - I don't think they're going to hire a guy who's not acted in anything before, TV, stage, or otherwise - I'll go for the 13th. I'm sure you'll agree when I say that I'd try to point out the glaring plot holes, instead of just agreeing to it.

How about David Mitchell? He'd do a good job at telling the various monsters, villains & aliens off, he does it well enough to people on the various panel shows he appears on

    Ooh, here we go!

I don't know a whole lot of actors who work primarily over in the UK, but I can think of a few that might make interesting choices.

Paul McGillion (Dr. Beckett from Stargate Atlantis, accent is optional, so I could see it working)

Patrick Stewart (A good actor in general, but I'm not sure he could pull off the craziness the Doctor needs)

Update: James Marsters (Spike from Buffy and Angel, and Brainiac from Smallville)

We'll I'd personally like Matt Smith to stay for as long as possible but if I was to choose and actor as a replacement and considering the recent youthful choices to play the Doctor my vote is for Andrew Lee Potts!! Given a chance I reckon he'd be great as I really liked him in Alice as the Mad Hatter.

I'd also put a vote in each for Richard Armitage & Rupert Penry-Jones with a half vote thrown in for Jonas Armstrong

Hey, they're not even on the same show, how about Doctor 6? Heck, Romana's similarities to a certain previous character was mentioned on screen!
